Race 1 - J SWALLING PAINTING/LANCE KRAUSE/RICHARDS TPT MAIDEN PLT - 1050M:
JEWEL RUSTLER – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn.
WONDERFUL WALLY – Stood flat footed and lost considerable ground.
Trainer P. Sexton was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
Stewards in reviewing this race established that NAMBAWAN, COZELETTE and STRONG BLACK, who were drawn barriers ten, twelve and thirteen respectively, were not moved inwards to the vacant barriers as a result of the events subsequent scratching’s. After seeking comments from the starter it was established that NAMBAWAN, COZELETTE and STRONG BLACK should have started from barriers eight, nine and ten respectively. As stewards were satisfied that this error had no effect on the overall finishing positions of the affected runners, no further action was taken. Nevertheless starter O. Brockhurst was advised of the correct procedure pertaining to the barrier positions of runners in relation to races involving scratching’s and the remainder of today’s meeting was conducted accordingly.
Race 2 - PIPEMANAGEMENT AUST/DIESEL FIT/CHINCHILLA PAINT&PANEL QTIS CLASS 1 HCP -1050M:
PERANTO jumped in and made contact with CAPTAIN SPUR. A post-race veterinary examination of CAPTAIN SPUR revealed the gelding to have suffered a superficial laceration to its near fore leg.
CAPTAIN SPUR - resented the kick back.
DESTINY’S TUNE - raced wide throughout.
PLATTERS – raced wide throughout.
GIANT CRUSHER – raced wide throughout.
KILGARRAH – held up rounding the home turn.
Race 3 - GJ HOMES DALBY/BOODLES CONCRETE CLASS B HCP - 1200M:
Correct weight was delayed to afford J. Rudd, the rider of 5th place getter EVERYTHING TO GAIN, the opportunity to view the photo finish print. J. Rudd was subsequently satisfied with the placing’s and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
ARNHEM LAND – slow to begin.
JANDY GIRL – raced with its head in the air in the early stages.
HIGHLAND LAD – had to ease shortly after the start when racing in restricted room. Raced wide throughout. Rider dropped whip near the 150m.
MAJIGAL – laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SEQUELENE – when trainer K. Geran was questioned as to the improved performance, she stated that the mare didn’t handle the prevailing track conditions in its previous start and that todays firm track surface, in her opinion, assisted in the mare’s performance.
Race 4 - UD TRUCKS CELEBRATION OPEN HCP - 1200M:
GAELSTORM – after being fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently passed fit to start.
Correct weight was delayed when the connections of 2nd place getter DANA DANCER wished to view the patrol footage to establish if there were grounds to lodge a protest against 1st place getter PRESIDENTIAL. After viewing the patrol footage connections decided against lodging an objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
Apprentice B. Richardson was reprimanded for failing to weigh in for 5th place.
OLYMPIA’S FLAME – began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal and significant findings.
DANA DANCER – rider was forced to ease from heels passing the winning post when tightened for room to the inside of PRESIDENTIAL which shifted in. At a subsequent enquiry Jockey C. Rogers was severely reprimanded.
Race 5 - CONDABRI FEEDLOT/KERWICKS EARTHWORKS CLASS 3 PLT - 1200M:
LUNAR – jumped away awkwardly.
MUNDO NOVA – raced wide in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.
PEKING STYLE – raced wide for the majority of the event without cover. Apprentice B. Richardson was questioned into the tactics adopted on PEKING STYLE. B. Richardson stated that her instructions were to go forward and after only beginning fairly was forced to race in a wide position. She further added that the gelding did not travel comfortably throughout the event. Stewards noted her comments.
QUANTUM SHADOW – improved onto heels near the 200m and was forced to shift out wider on the track to obtain clear running. Apprentice D. Evans was questioned into the seemingly disappointing performance of QUANTUM SHADOW. D. Evans explained that the instructions were to be in a forward position and after obtaining a position on the fence added that the gelding failed to handle the kickback and as a result had a tendency to hang out. He further added that after pressuring the gelding from a point near the 600m, he was unable to make up the necessary ground on the tight turning track and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of QUANTUM SHADOW failed to reveal and significant findings.
Apprentice A. Van Der Sanden and D. Evans were both reprimanded for failing to weigh in for 4th and 5th place respectively.
Race 6 - CONDAMINE HOTEL/TRAKIDA BMK 60 HCP - 1500M:
GOLD RECORD was a late scratching at 3:07pm for veterinary reasons. Trainer K. Hamilton was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.
ANCHOR BOLT – began awkwardly and lost ground.
RED BULL – hung out rounding the first turn.
BILLY GOAT – hung out near the 800m.
SUPERCHEAP – after being caught wide in the early stages, rider elected to stride forward to obtain a leading position near the 1100m.
RED CENTURION – Rider C. Rogers was questioned into the performance of RED CENTURION, which tailed off significantly. C. Rogers stated that the instructions were to go forward and after jumping well was able to take up a leading position. She further added that the gelding handled the track conditions well however, after placing her mount under pressure near the 600m failed to respond and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer R. Sullivan was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
