QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MILES AND DISTRICT AMATEUR PICNIC RACE CLUB INC. SATURDAY 10th FEBRUARY 2024 WEATHER: OVERCAST TRACK RATING- GOOD/ DIRT. RAIL: TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards Panel– F Hartford GENERAL Race 1 and Race 4- Appr Jky Ms S Neilson was overweight and replaced as per the Stewards Summary. Due to Appr Jky C Krahnen being injured as a result of being dislodged from her mount in Race 4 the start of Race 5 was amended to 5.00pm to allow QAS staff to complete their examination of Ms Krahnen and convey her to Miles Hospital for further assessment. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. TA CHANSON- As Appr Jky S Neilson was unable to make the allocated weight due to personal medical issues, she was replaced by Appr Jky L O’Donnell. As a result Stewards acting under the provision of AR190(3) fined Ms Neilson the sum of $300 for being overweight in Races 1 and 4. Slow to begin. COLHOUN- Raced wide for the majority. TAKEMEOUTBACK- Slow to begin and then raced wide for the majority of the event. Tended to lay out when under pressure in the home straight. LONERGY- Slow to begin. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event. LITERMONT- Slow to begin. LAYLAH’S WISH- Stewards acting under the provision of AR131 (c) fined Jky T Brummell the sum of $100 for his celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jky Brummell’s forthright evidence and his excellent record in relation to this rule. Due to the number of horses that appeared to be slow to begin, prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards reviewed the start of the race and after speaking with riders were satisfied that all runners were afforded a fair start. However, several Jockeys raised concerns with the delay the seemed to occur between the clear signal and the actual start. Stewards inquired into the issue with rider representative Jky P Hamblin and Starter Mr D Kerwick. Mr Kerwick advised that the start was conducted by the assistant starter due to a lack of barrier staff. Mr Kerwick advised Stewards that he has taken action to remedy the issue and gave an undertaking such matters would not reoccur in the future. Post race mechanical issues were identified with barrier 8 would and Stewards ordered that it not be used for the remainder of the program. RACE 2: MILES IGA/CHAPLINS BUTCHERY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200M) CHECKPOINT CHARLIE- Raced wide and at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. NYTHE- Slow to begin and raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Appeared not to be suited by the early speed. SEPARATIST- On returning to scale Appr Jky T Noble advised Stewards that her mount hung out for the majority of the event. Stewards noted her comments. SCOTTISH FARMER- Began awkwardly, over raced for a short distance after the start and lost ground approaching the 1100m point racing at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Was held up for a run approaching the home turn. GLACIER PRINCESS- Laid out for a short distance in the home straight before being corrected by the rider. GLORIOUS INTENT- Stewards spoke with Jky N Fazackerley regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse today. Jky Fazackerley advised that after being well and being handy in running it failed to improve when he asked it for an effort to do so. He said that it wasn’t suited to the racing surface today and races better on a grass track. Stewards noted his comments. MONTAGLIARI- Slow into stride. RAVERA- Raced wide in the home straight and finished off strongly over the final stages of the event. TEKAKWITHA- Began awkwardly, over raced early stages of the event. Raced at the rear of the field for the majority. Jky T Brummell advised Stewards on returning to scale that the horse had clipped itself in running in the back straight losing ground at that point. He further added that despite his best efforts to improve the Mare failed to do so. Stewards ordered a post-race Veterinary examination to be undertaken. This examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 3: CONDAMINE HOTEL CLASS B HANDICAP (1200M) MY MOSES- Raced wide for the majority of the event. PARA PARK MAKEUP- Slow to begin. COLLAGEN QUEEN- Raced wide for the majority of the event. INSTANT RESPONSE- Tended to lay out in the home straight. Stewards acting under the provision of AR131(a) Careless Riding, Reprimanded Appr Jky Sprie for not stopping and straightening his mount in the home straight. Stewards spoke with Trainer N Hemmings regarding the seemingly improved performance of her horse. She advised she wasn’t suited to the heavy tracks at her past two runs. The Mare had been working well and that despite not racing here before, she jumped well and settled in the running, and she appeared to be suited to the racing conditions today. DUSTINS- B NEWPORT- On returning to scale Jky B Newport requested to view the Stewards footage over the final stages of the race. Jky Newport and Trainer M Hill elected to lodge an objection to the INSTANT RESPONSE being declared the 1st placed horse in the race with their horse DUSTINS finishing half a length back in 2nd position. Jky Newport advised that the alleged interference occurred from the 50m point over the concluding stages. After hearing evidence from all parties and viewing the Stewards patrol footage available, Stewards found that while INSTANT RESPONSE did lay out in the home straight that when the horses approached the 50m Jky Newport was still able to ride his mount out until he stopped riding sitting up approximately 20m from the line. After considering the official margin as half a length, the incident and the location Stewards could not be reasonably satisfied that DUSTINS would have finished ahead of INSTANT RESPONSE had the interference not occurred, with the latter finishing off very strongly when finally, being straightened by Appr Jky Sprie. Stewards subsequently dismissed the objection and declared correct weight as semaphored by the judges. EMIRATE PRIDE- Due to the Mare having to be resaddled at the barriers the start of this race was delayed. INHISTIME- Raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Race 4: MURILLA HARDWARE SUPPLIES 2024 MURILLA CUP OPEN HANDICAP (CELEBRATING 60 YEARS IN BUSINESS) 1200m MENINDEE- Slow to begin. Raced wide and raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event before improving into the race rom the 300m point and ran on strongly over the concluding stages. FAB’S COWBOY- Acting under the provision of AR78(2) Stewards ordered a pre-race vet examination to be undertaken due to the horse being 12 years of age with the gelding being passed fit to race today. As the start was affected the horse knuckled soon after jumping, became unbalanced and fell, dislodging rider Appr Jky C Krahnen. A Post-Race Veterinary examination with no abnormalities detected. Stewards later spoke with Trainer Mr B Johnson who gave an undertaking that he would notify Stewards should the horse show signs of lameness or injury in coming days. Ms Krahnen examined by attending QAS staff and was later conveyed to Miles and District Hospital for further assessment. A delay to the start of Race 5 was declared by Stewards until this issue was resolved with the amended start time amended to 5.00pm. MOSCINI-The start was delayed due to MOSCINI proving difficult to load. Stewards took no action against the horse or Trainer due to the seemingly lack of experienced barrier staff at today’s meeting. ROLLINWITHTHEFLOW- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced at the rear for the majority of the event. LEGEND OF ZORRO- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event. FITZROY BOY- Slow to begin, raced wide for the majority of the event. Stewards spoke with Appr Jky J Golden regarding the pattern of racing of FITZROY BOY today. The gelding normally leads and today he was back until approximately the 600m when he began to improve into the race. Appr Jky Golden advised that he didn’t jump well today from the wide gate he took some time to gain the lead at the 400m he began to settle. Stewards noted his comments. A delay in correct weight occurred when the trainer Mr D Groves and connections of the 2nd placed horse (ELIZANO) sought to view the photo finish image. Connections were satisfied with the placings as semaphored by the Judges with Stewards subsequently declaring correct weight. Race 5: Q HOTEL MILES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1500m SOLE HEIR- Laid out in the early stages of the event, raced wide for the majority. ELIZANO- hung in during the early stages when over racing. Raced at the rear of the field until approaching the 500m point where it began to improve into the race. Raced wide for the majority of the event. BONNIE EV- The start was further delayed due to the horse proving difficult to load. Stewards took no action against the horse or Trainer after considering the relative inexperience of the barrier staff. Began to lose ground from the 700m point and then raced at the rear of the field for the majority of the event. GUERNSEY- Began awkwardly when it jumped out and bumped with LORD SMEDLEY after the start then raced at the rear of the field while wide for the majority of the event. LORD SMEDLEY- Began awkwardly and made contact with the inside barrier gate and then bumped GUERNSEY to the inside after the start and lost ground. Laid out in the home straight.
