LATE RIDING CHANGES:
When Jockey C. Spry was unable to attend the meeting due to personal reasons, the following substitutions were made: Race 2, Jockey N. Evans to ride DENIS THE DUDE; Race 3, Jockey C. McIver to ride FLAG FAVOURITE.
Race 1: Blacks Real Estate QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1200 metres
1st MAHRAJAAN 2nd – MISHANI GLADIATOR 3rd - TALK TOUGH 4th - AZZURAYER
At the start AZZURAYER (C. Whiteley) bounded in the air and lost ground.
Race 2: Champion C Stud & Equestrian Centre Maiden Handicap - 1100 metres
1st CRAIGLEA MIDGET 2nd REAL FRENCH SAGA 3rd PUMPED UP KICKS 4th - MIRFAK
When Jockey A. Coome was to be overweight, Jockey D. Evans was substituted as the rider of CRAIGLEA MIDGET. Jockey Coome was fined the sum of $100 under AR120(b).
The start was delayed when IT’S LUNA CI (App. K. Aho) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
NICE WHEELS (C. McIver) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 950 metres DENIS THE DUDE (N. Evans) was inclined to lay in.
At the entrance to the straight ALPINE GOLD (C. Whiteley), which was inclined to lay in, was disappointed for a narrow run between MIRFAK (T. Bannon) and IT’S LUNA CI (App. K. Aho), then at about the 250 metres had to be shifted wider to obtain clear running.
Near the 100 metres NICE WHEELS (C. McIver) was disappointed for a run between MIRFAK and IT’S LUNA CI.
CLOUD DANCER (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: - Mackay Gifts BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1560 metres
1st – WEATHERVANE 2nd DODGE THE GREY 3rd FLAG FAVOURITE 4th - CONTROL AGENT
When the start was effected BENNY’S HALO (J. Lyon) stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground.
For the majority of the home straight WEATHERVANE (T. Bannon) was inclined to lay in.
BENNY’S HALO raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 50 metres WEATHERVANE hung in, resulting in Jockey T. Bannon losing the use of her offside rein.
Race 4: - Chaptec Class 2 Handicap – 1110 metres
1st MUSHATTA 2nd - SHUFFLES 3rd MAGIC WALTZ 4th – LICK ‘EM LOLLY
HER EAGLE EYES was injured in the float en route to the course. Acting on veterinary advice that the mare was unfit to take its place in the field, stewards ordered the withdrawal of HER EAGLE EYES at 12.10 p.m. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to OUR EAGLE EYES being permitted to race again.
At the start MAGIC WALTZ (D. Hayse) and ROYAL FUSILIER (C-M. Pye) reared and lost considerable ground. Trainers J. O’Sing and R. Shannon were advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of both geldings.
In the home straight TOP BUTTON (App. K. Aho) had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 150 metres.
Race 5: Mick Symonds Lightning Open Handicap - 1100 metres
1st ASSIMILATOR 2nd - LOKELANI 3rd SAMMY JUNIOR 4th - STARLISTIC
At the start IMELDAMAY (C. Whiteley) was tightened for room between ASSIMILILATOR (A. Butler) and TERMS OF TRADE (A. Coome).
Shortly after the start TERMS OF TRADE shifted out. At the same time TAN TAT ALPHA (T. Bannon) which was laying in, shifted in, taking ASSIMILATOR (A. Butler) in onto IMELDAMAY, which had to be checked and lost its position in the field. Shortly after that incident TERMS OF TRADE shifted out slightly and at the same time TAN TAT ALPHA was inclined to lay in, despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in TERMS OF TRADE clipping the heels of TAN TAT ALPHA. Jockey Bannon reported that TAN TAT ALPHA was inclined to lay in for the majority of the event. Jockey Bannon was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
From approximately the 300 metres IMELDAMAY was held up behind TERMS OF TRADE and SAMMY JUNIOR (D. Evans) and went to the line without being fully tested.
Following the race Jockey A. Coome reported that TERMS OF TRADE was inclined to hang in for the majority of the event and in his opinion raced flat.
Jockey A. Butler, the rider of ASSIMILATOR, was fined $100 under A.R. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish.
Race 6: H. L. Black Memorial Open Handicap – 1560 metres
1st PAYTEEVEE 2nd BARAMUL BULLET 3rd LADRETTO 4th - INTERVIEW 5th - MISTY ROCKET
MISTY ROCKET (T. O’Hara) bounded in the air as the gates opened and was slow to begin.
In the early stages BARAMUL BULLET (D. Evans) raced wide and then was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead at about the 1200 metres.
In the middle stages PAYTEEVEE (A. Coome) was inclined to over-race.
From the 400 metres until approximately the 200 metres PAYTEEVEE was held up on the heels of BARAMUL BULLET and HOLDONTOYAHORSES (J. Lyon).
At about the 200 metres INTERVIEW (L. Dillon) and DE LA DILO (A. Butler) came together and bumped.
Race 7: Newsxpress Mt Pleasant Class 6 Plate - 1200 metres
1st SHORT TRIP 2nd ANTHEBANDPLAYEDON 3rd STAGE EXIT 4th - LIGHT DREAMER
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey D. Simmons, the rider of LIGHT DREAMER, which finished 4th, the opportunity to examine the video films of the start and early stages of the event with a view to lodging a protest against SHORT TRIP (App. K. Aho) being declared the winner. Having done so, Jockey Simmons elected not to protest and stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s number. Shortly after the start LIGHT DREAMER was tightened for room between GOLD BENDER (C. Whiteley) and SHORT TRIP (App. K. Aho). Apprentice Aho was advised to exercise more care.
SNIP PINS LASS (D. Hayse) stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination of SNIP PINS LASS did not reveal any abnormalities.
