Race 1: 4MK Open H'cap – 1560m

Correct weight was delayed to allow A. Coome, rider of the 2nd placegetter, CRAIGLEA DEKEN, to view the film of the race over the concluding stages to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner, BLUE JEST, ridden by D. Graham. On viewing the film it was established that BLUE JEST shifted out under pressure leaving the 300m, resulting in CRAIGLEA DEKEN changing direction to the inside of that runner leaving the 200m, but was clear to do so at that time. As such, rider A. Coome declined to proceed and correct weight was given on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

OKAY SWIFT – Began very awkwardly and shifted out. Raced wide in the early stages until improving forward to race outside the leader near the 1200m.

HOYWEDGE – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. Trainer T. Cook was advised that a warning would be place on the horse’s barrier manners.

BLUE JEST – Overraced in the middle stages and hung out under pressure over the concluding stages despite the efforts of its rider.  Trainer B. Johnson was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

Barnham was unable to ride that horse he was replaced by D. Hayse. Mr Wanless made an application for FORGOTTEN FEELING to race in winkers instead of blinkers, which was the gear declared in the racebook. In checking the gear records, stewards were able to confirm that a gear change was made and the horse was permitted to race in winkers. This was broadcast via public announcement.

LYONS MANE – Slow to begin.   A post race veterinary examination of the colt, which finished tailed off, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

AL MAH ROCKET – Slow to begin.  Raced greenly throughout. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

HIGH RIDER – Slow to begin. When asked to explain the disappointing performance, rider A. Coome advised stewards that the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout the race and, in his opinion, will be better suited over longer distances than that of today’s event. Following the event jockey A. Coome was examined by the ambulance officer and stood down from his remaining engagements. Jockey Coome must provide a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.  Riding changes were made as per the steward’s summary sheet.
