The start of the event was delayed whilst stewards held for a race at another venue.

ELITE ELEMENT - Dislodged rider M. Hart in the mounting enclosure. Jockey Hart declared himself free from injury and fit to fulfil his engagements.

GABRIALA - Was reluctant to load into the barriers. Stewards advised trainer D. Johnston that a warning will be placed on the filly's barrier manners.

TESSINO - Whilst parading behind the barriers dislodged Jockey S. Sheargold. Jockey Sheargold declared himself fit to fulfil his further engagements. Reluctant to load into the barriers. Stewards advised trainer P. Fleming that a warning will be placed on the filly's barrier manners. Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.

MURTAHOME - Began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly soon after the start and inconvenienced another runner. Stewards advised trainer Mr J. Campeao that the gelding, which raced very keenly throughout and hung out, will be required to trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again.

CRANKY OL' LADY - App Z. White was fined $200 under the provisions of A.R. 137(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the finish. Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that App. White's lack of vigour over the concluding stages of the event cost her mount second placing.

KHADIJA - Slowly away. Raced 3 wide without cover from the 700m.

UNDER THE WEATHER - Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.

Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred near the 200m when HI SUGAR (Jockey L. Tilley) appeared to blunder and lost ground. After taking evidence from Jockey L. Tilley,, Jockey C. Jokic, the rider of ZOFFANY ROCKET, Jockey W. D'Avila, the rider of MONACO ROCKET, it was established that HI SUGAR, which was attempting to improve into a marginal run between ZOFFANY ROCKET and MONACO ROCKET, then raced in restricted room when ZOFFANY ROCKET commenced to lay in, despite the efforts of Jockey Jokic, and shifted in marginally when placed under pressure and MONACO ROCKET shifted out marginally. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that responsibility for the incident could be apportioned to any individual rider, it was reported as a racing incident.

AUTHADANE - When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding which established a long lead in the early and middle stages of the race, trainer J. Campeoa advised stewards that though he had given no specific instructions to Jockey N. Day, he had said that the horse had raced very well previously when able to lead comfortably on its own terms. Jockey Day confirmed the instructions and said that after jumping well he had ridden the gelding positively in the early stages and had settled into a comfortable tempo, however the gelding was inclined to over-race in the middle stages and refused to settle. Jockey Day further advised that in his opinion the step up in distance of today's event had been beneficial.
>
Race 5: BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1050 metres

BOMBER MISS - Began awkwardly after being fractious in the barriers.
Stewards considered an application by trainer O. Cairns and Jockey Q. Krogh for the mare to be declared a non runner. After viewing the head-on patrol film, it was apparent that the mare's barrier manners had played a major part in its being slowly away. Accordingly, stewards refused the application and declared correct weight. Ms Cairns was advised that BOMBER MISS must obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.

Race 6: John Manzelmann Ratings Band 0 - 55 Handicap - 1200 metres

IRISH EYES - Fractious in the barriers and dislodged Jockey S. Sheargold. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the mare at 4.17 P.M. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on IRISH EYES be refunded and that the following deductions apply.

>           155 in the dollar for the win for the winner, DASH OF WIZZARD
>           155 in the dollar for the place for the winner, DASH OF WIZZARD
>           122 in the dollar for the place for 2nd, CORNISH TALES
>           144 in the dollar for the place for 3rd, MISS MARSEILLE.

Trainer R. Bowen was advised that the mare will be required to obtain a further 3 consecutive barrier certificates prior to being permitted to race again.. Jockey Sheargold declared himself uninjured and clear to fulfil his further engagement.

DRAGON ROCKET - Slowly away.

>

LE CHIFFRE - Was inconvenienced when tightened for room between runners soon after the start.

YOU DID WHAT - Inconvenienced when tightened for room between runners soon after jumping. Hampered by another runner near the 200m.

MAHRAJAAN - Began awkwardly.

SNAKE FARLEY - Jockey N. Day was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out under riding when insufficiently clear of ATARARTZI (Jockey A. Butler), which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Day's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 5th August 2017 and to expire at midnight on 14th August 2017. In determining penalty stewards took into account Jockey Day's good record and the degree of interference, which was considered to be in the low range.

Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred near the 100m. After hearing evidence and viewing of the official race film it was established that at that point, ATARARTZI (Jockey A. Butler) which was attempting to improve into a marginal run, had to be restrained when disappointed for that run between SNAKE FARLEY (Jockey N. Day) and DODGE THE GREY (Jockey M. Abe), both of which shifted ground slightly. As stewards were unable to apportion responsibility to any individual rider, no further action was taken.
