STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB – SATURDAY, 23 DECEMBER 2017 WEATHER - FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (4)/GOOD 3 FOLLOWING RACE 1 RETROSPECTIVELY RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr. L. Newman & N PaullStarter – P Conway Race 1: Serenity Lodge BM 70 Handicap - 1100 metres SHROUDED – Began a little awkwardly. LE CHIFFRE – Over-raced in the early stages. Jockey J. Stanley reported at scale that the horse had raced flat and may not have appreciated the quick back up when it won at its previous start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Following this race the track was upgraded to Good 3 retrospective to Race 1. Race 2: Tracy Simmons Racing BM 70 Handicap- 1560 metres No racing incidents. Race 3: Mackay Casino Nights Maiden Plate- 1300 metres MEET HARRY – Shifted out on jumping away. THE BARMAID – Got its head down prior to the start being effected. Jump away awkwardly and lost ground. Rider J. Stanley reported that he restrained shortly after the start and shifted in to take up a position at the rear of the field close to the running rail. He was also of the opinion the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. ICE WARRIOR – Near the 900m shifted in when not fully clear of PRINCE OF MINE, and was advised by stewards to exercise more care. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and commenced to hang out from the 800m, and as a result near the 600m AIRLIE BEACH had to be steadied. The horse continued to hang out and near the 400m, JACKOH was taken wider on the track. A post race veterinary examination of ICE WARRIOR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Connections were advised that ICE WARRIOR will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. PRINCE OF MINE – Raced keenly at the heels of ICE WARRIOR and near the 900m shifted out and became unbalanced. AIRLIE BEACH – Obliged to steadied near 600m. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Commenced to yield ground from the 500m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. JACKOH – Forced wider near the 400m. Raced wide with cover throughout. Race 4: McDonald Murphy Machinery QTIS 3YO BM 60 Handicap- 1100 metres JAY JAY – Began awkwardly. Shifted out slightly near the 900m, at which time CSARDAS shifted in slightly, making contact with SAMBA RIO, which was tightened between those runners and had to be steadied. CSARDAS shifted in and bumped at the start. CRAFTY BLONDE – Made contact with CSARDAS at the start, which was taken in and caused ANA’S IDOL to be hampered when making contact with SAMBA RIO. SAMBA RIO – Bumped at the start. ANA’S IDOL – Hampered on jumping away. CRAIGLEA VELVET – Stewards questioned apprentice A. Thomson regarding her leading on the horse in the event. Apprentice Thomson stated that her instructions were to attempt to obtain a forward position from the wide barrier, however she was also of the opinion she may have gone too hard. However, App Thomson was mindful of further instructions to not restrain her mount due to a tendency for the horse to over race. Race 5: Merry Chirstmas Class 3 Plate- 1300 metres CARDA MOJO – Was buffeted at the start between GOLD TORQUE, which jumped outwards, and COLLYWOBBLE, and as a result, CARDA MOJO lost ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J. Stanley stated that he had been informed the horse was racing well and was expected it to perform well, that the horse may get back in the race and was able to perform best when able to get to the outside of the field. He added that after suffering some interference at the start he raced back in the field, however placed the horse under pressure leaving the 600m, and from the home turn had complied with instructions and raced to the outside of the field, however he added his mount was under pressure upon straightening. Jockey Stanley further stated that the horse’s failure to let down may be attributed to it being affected by the firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken. RED CALVARY – Raced wide throughout. Race 6: Blacks Real Estate Ratings Band 0-55 Handicap- 1050 metres BIA TYCHE – Dwelt as the start was effected. HURAI – Began awkwardly. FOREST MAGIC – Made contact on jumping away. CYCONE FUGITIVE – Made contact at the start. GRAPHITE JOE – Raced wide throughout. FIRESTAR PHOENIX – Raced 3 wide without cover. RAGNAR LODBROK – Race keenly until near the 600m. SAMUEL JAMES – Laid in near the 600m and had to be steadied from the heels of DIAGORAS. CYCLONE FUGITIVE – From leaving the 300m was awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of FIRESTAR PHOENIX, and had difficulty obtaining clear running until shifting out near the 150m. DIAGORAS – Was found to be making a respiratory noise upon return to scale which may have been as a result of displacing its soft palate.
