QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB – TUESDAY, 20 FEBRUARY 2018 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – GOOD 3 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr P. Krogh was unable to attend today’s race meeting due to transport difficulties, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. Race 1: Event Centre For Functions QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1050m TAMBO’S VIXEN – Stewards spoke with trainer L. Wright regarding the circumstances surrounding the late scratching of the horse and were satisfied with the explanation. CYCLONE TOPGIRL – Slow to begin. Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages of the race. CRAIGLEA RUBBLE – Began awkwardly shifting in bumping another runner. CRAIGLEA ELLA – Bumped by another runner on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to its near side nostril. Race 2: Become A Member MTC Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1300m MASON’S CHANCE – Was re-handicapped 2 kilograms after winning at Rockhampton on 15 February 2018. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race. Race 3: Channel Seven Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1560m Stewards spoke with trainer O. Cairns regarding the circumstances surrounding the late scratching of MASONS CHANCE and were satisfied with the explanation. COVENTRY – Restrained when racing keenly near the 1200m. Race 4: Join The 100 Club Open H’cap – 1050m GRAND EMPEROR – Delayed the start when took fright from another runner which was fractious and itself became very fractious dislodging its rider. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon was cleared to start. Rider J. Stanley declared himself free of injury. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild abrasions to its off fore leg. CHARCOAL MELODY – Was fractious in the barriers causing another runner to become fractious. TINTO ELEMENTO – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding its performance rider N. Seymour was at loss to explain the performance other than it may not have been entirely comfortable on today’s track surface. A Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. VO TREASURE – Slow to begin.FOUR EXCEL – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages. AVONACO – When questioned into the seemingly improved performance, stable representative Mr T. Cook stated the gelding had been freshened up since its last run and also had had corrective shoeing which he contributed to its improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation. Rider D. Graham was fined the sum of $200 in that she returned to scale in excess of ½kg of her allotted weight. Race 5: Tox Free Maiden H’cap – 1200m MARQUANT – Slow to begin. Crowded for room near the 1000m by another runner which shifted in. HOOVESGOTCHA – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race. TO THE LETTER – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and shifted in near the 1000m crowding runners to its inside. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GROHL – Crowded for room near the 1000m by another runner which shifted in. Raced wide from the 600m. DAESY DANORO – Restrained off heels near the 600m. HEEB’S FIRST ANGEL – Raced greenly over the concluding stages of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a very slow post-race recovery. PALM SPRINGS – Unable to obtain clear running in the straight. Race 6: Miss Turf Girl Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1100m EXSTRATUM – Slow to begin. STRONG WILL – Slow to begin. WE FOUND IT – Slow to begin. INNER HURRY – On returning to scale rider J. Stanley reported to Stewards that in his opinion the mare felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages and as such did not place the horse under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a very slow post-race recovery. AMERICAN HERO – Began awkwardly and raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race. CYCLONE FUGITIVE – Laid in for short distance passing the 400m. Race 7: Tom Ferris Memorial Ratings B and 0-55 H’cap – 1300m HI SUGAR – Was re-handicapped 1.5 kilograms after winning at Emerald on 17 February 2018. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CSARDAS – Delayed the start after becoming fractious in the barriers and escaping riderless. After galloping a considerable distance the filly was declared a late scratching at 5.54pm by order of Stewards. Subsequent to the event and prior to correct weight all monies invested on CSARDAS were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to be applicable. 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets.16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place.16 cents in the dollar on the face value of second place bets.9 cents in the dollar on the face value of third place bets. Connections were advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to its next race start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a laceration to its near hind leg and abrasions to both forelegs and abrasion to its head. RAGNAR LODBROCK – Slow into stride. SEK LOSO – Commenced to lose ground passing the 600m and finished tailed off. Trainer L. McCormack was advised the gelding must trial satisfactorily.
