General
 
As rider A. Seymour was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. S. Seymour must provide a medical clearance prior to riding again.
 
Apprentices C. Bayliss, D. Graham, E. Smith, Z. White were reprimanded in regards to their dress standard today under AR86.
 
Race 1: Payne Print Open H’cap – 1560m
 
PERFECTLY ALIGNED – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.
 
OUR NEDDY BOY – Over-raced for a short distance when being restrained shortly after the start and raced wide in the early stages. When questioned regarding the gelding’s performance, rider J. Stanley reported that the horse never travelled comfortably throughout the race and failed to respond to his riding when being placed under pressure from leaving the 600m and was very disappointing. Trainer’s representative A. Johnson stated he was at a loss to explain today’s performance other than being very disappointed, and gave an undertaking that trainer J. Wigginton would report to stewards anything that may come to his attention in the next few days that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
 
Race 2: Urban Trend Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
SWEET NOTE - Slow to begin.
 
LYON'S MANE - Slow to begin.
 
MIDGIE GREM - Due to not having started for an extended period of time, the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to its race and was cleared to start.  Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
HEYINGTON - Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Inconvenienced leaving the 600m by another runner, which shifted in and became unbalanced. Rider Z. White was admonished in regards to her use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
QUICK VERSE - Raced ungenerously for the majority of the race, and leaving the 600m shifted in, inconveniencing another runner despite the efforts of its rider. Apprentice E. Smith advised Stewards she felt the filly was not entirely comfortable racing clockwise for the first time.
 
HOOVESGOTCHA - Inconvenienced by another runner, which shifted out when over-racing near the 700m and had to be checked.
 
MURTAHOME – Over-raced in the early stages and when being restrained near the 700m, shifted out, inconveniencing another runner. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of MURTAHOME, rider K. Aho was nevertheless reprimanded and advised that a greater effort would be expected in similar circumstances.
 
Race 3: Smartstate Rentals Class 3 H’cap – 1200m
 
AUTHADANE – Apprentice C. Bayliss replaced R. Payne who was not riding at today’s meeting.
 
ATLANTIS CITY – As apprentice D. Graham was unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time due to transportation difficulties, she was replaced by apprentice E. Smith.
 
HI SUGAR – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
AUTHADANE – Over-raced in the early stages of the race.
 
UTHRED – Momentarily held up for clear running entering the home straight.
 
Race 4: Join 100 Club QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1050m
 
TOORAK RUBY – Slow to begin.
 
TOKAREV – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
GREY WIZARD – Inconvenienced and steadied soon after the start when crowded for room. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
NORTHERN SECRET – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
VIV’S WINGS – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Raced greenly throughout. Rider C. McIver was severely reprimanded for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
 
ESTRELLA FELLA – Raced wide for the majority of the race. When questioned in regards to its performance rider E. Smith stated in her opinion the gelding was not comfortable having its first start clockwise going and would be better suited on a bigger track. She further added the horse may be looking for a longer distance than that of today’s event. Trainer J. Manzelmann agreed with Ms Smith’s comments and will look to step the horse up in distance in the near future.  
 
Race 5: Channel Seven Class 6 Plate – 1300m
 
PERSISTENT SHADOW – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure near the 100m, hampering another runner. Rider D. Evans was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
OLD SMOKEY – Hampered near the 100m by another runner, which shifted out.  When questioned into the performance of the gelding, rider J. Stanley was at a loss to explain the performance and felt the horse was disappointing. Trainer T. Bannon advised stewards she was disappointed with the performance today and will monitor the horse going forward and would advise stewards should anything come to her attention that may have had a bearing on its performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. 
 
MASON’S CHANCE – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
Race 6: Caneland Central Mackay Turf Girl Ratings Band 0-60 H’cap – 1050m
 
ROCK’N’ROLL BOBBY – Declared a late scratching at 8.06 am by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that the gelding was found to have had an elevated temperature.  Trainer J. Lancaster was advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing again.
 
METEOR’S MAN – Slow to begin.
 
TIMES FOR LILLI – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run on straightening, and again disappointed when attempting a doubtful run approaching and leaving the 200m, having to be steadied bumping with another runner.
FORGOTTEN FEELING – When attempting a narrow run near the 200m shifted in bumping with another runner.

STRONG WILL – Slow to begin. Steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room. Laid out rounding the home turn, becoming awkward on heels.
 
WORTH THE TIME – Shifted in shortly after the start, hampering another runner. Raced wide for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  
 
Race 7: Mackay Turf Club Raceday Sat 28th April Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1560m
 
 
RUFFY ROAD – Trainer G. Elliot was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare J. Stanley as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time.
 
MISHNAH – Began very awkwardly and commenced to race very ungenerously, dislodging rider A. Butler soon after the start.  A. Butler walked back to the scales area unaided and declared himself free of injury. Trainer J. Wehlow was advised that the gelding must trial on 3 separate occasions to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
 
NEVAEH – Commenced to lose ground leaving the 600m and compounded badly near the 500m, resulting in STILL THE SAME (D. Graham), BAWAARDI ROCKET (E. Smith) and TAKINGS (Dodds) all being severely checked to avoid that runner’s heels.  Both TAKINGS and BAWAARDI ROCKET were inconvenienced for a short distance thereafter in this   incident.  A post-race veterinary examination of NEVAEH revealed the horse to have severe lacerations to both hind legs. Trainer’s representative Mr J. Stephens was advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to being permitted to race again and he must also provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to trialling.
