As D. Evans was not riding at today’s meeting, he was replaced as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
 
Race 1: Southern Cross Austereo Maiden Plate – 1050m
 
FRED THE TUFF – Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer K. Hansen for the late declaration of N. Day as the rider of the horse. Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground. Raced greenly in the middle stages and shifted in, tightening runners to its inside. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of the horse, jockey N. Day, was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
GOLIATH – Slow to begin. Tightened for room near the 400m, having to be steadied. Disappointed for a run near the 250m and again near the 100m having to be restrained, and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
BAGGER NEMO – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the home straight and shifted ground, hampering another runner.
 
HEYINGTON – Slow to begin.
 
HAMMERFEST – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
CIRCUIT JUDGE – Raced in restricted room near the 400m and had to be checked and lost ground.  
 
MURTAHOME – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 2: Southern Cross Austereo Maiden Plate – 1050m
 
DROPPER ROCKET – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
BEAU CHEVAL – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 3: Daily Mercury QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1200m
 
ROCKET ‘N’ RUBY – Slow to begin.
 
SHENRON – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider A Butler stated that the gelding never travelled comfortably throughout the event and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and was very disappointing.  He further added the horse changed stride approaching the 200m and became unbalanced and as such did not pressure the horse over the concluding stages. Trainer A. Attard, advised stewards he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance today and will assess the horse further when it returns to his stables and notify Stewards should anything come to his attention that may have a bearing on the horses performance today. He further added he will freshen the horse up and add blinkers to its gear before for its next start.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Attard, was advised that he must trial the horse to the stewards’ satisfaction before being permitted to race again.  A swab sample was taken.
 
Race 4:  Allure Skin & Laser Studios Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1200m
 
OAKFIELD COSTA – The start was delayed when the gelding shifted its off front plate, requiring farrier attention.
 
BARACHIEL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
FUTUREREAL – Blundered on jumping and lost ground.
 
STRONG WILL – Slow to begin.
 
LE CHIFFRE – When questioned into the disappointing performance, rider J. Stanley stated the gelding had a tendency to over-race in the early stages and then did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure and was disappointing. Trainer T. Bannon stated the gelding injured its near hind bumper and it is her intention that the horse be freshened prior to its next start. Ms Bannon was advised she must provide a veterinary clearance before the gelding would be permitted to race again.  
 
 
 
 
 
Race 5: Canelands Central QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1300m
 
JUSTALAD – Slow to begin.
 
BARBADOS STORM – Slow to begin.
 
LEROY ROCKS – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
STYLISH CRIMINAL – Slow to begin.
 
STARENA – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and again near the 200m and was again steadied.
 
TOXOPHILY – Restrained leaving the 200m when its rider felt something was amiss. A post- race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have pain in the sacro lliac region. Connections were advised a veterinary clearance must be provided before the filly trials to the Stewards satisfaction.
 
SAMBA RIO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
QUICK VERSE –  Rider C. Jokic pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that she permitted her runner to shift in when insufficiently clear of TIME FOR LILLI, which had to be checked and lose ground near the 850m.  Miss Jokic’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight, 1 May, and to expire at midnight, 8 May 2018.  In considering penalty, stewards took into account Miss Jokic’s exemplary record in regards to this rule over a long period of time. Finished tailed off. Trainer J. Manzelmann was at a loss to explain the performance and in considering today’s effort advised that the horse will now be retired from racing.
 
TIME FOR LILLI – Checked near the 850m when tightened for room.
 
Race 6: Helloworld Travel Open H’cap – 1560m
 
CASINO BENJO – Slow to begin.
 
TAMBO’S HEART – Slow to begin.
 
HELLUVA HOFFA – Slow to begin.
 
BENTLES – Slow to begin.  Over-raced in the middle stages of the race.
 
TOP RAVINE – Rider J. Stanley advised stewards the gelding had a tendency to hang out leaving the 500m.
 
DODGE THE GREY – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
BRADMAN – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 7: Incogneato Hair Artistry Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1560m
 
BALORUM – Slow to begin.
 
MISS RICH – Slow to begin.
 
CAPTAINS WAY – After beginning slowly, was bumped by another runner, which shifted out shortly after the start.
 
FLAT TO STACK – Shifted out shortly after the start, bumping another runner. Laid in near the 150m, bumping with another runner. Continued to lay in for the remainder of the race.
 
PULSAR – Shifted out near the 150m, bumping another runner, which laid in. Rider A. Buttler was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.  
 
WINSOMEMORE – Restrained shortly after jumping to take a position closer to the running rail from its wide barrier.
 
TO THE LETTER – When questioned into the disappointing performance, rider J. Stanley was at a loss to explain the performance, stating it was very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to suffering from respiratory distress. Trainer T. Bannon advised she will now freshen the gelding up prior to its next race start.  Ms Bannon will be  advised she must provide the results of an endoscopic examination and further that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
