KRUPT AS ‘ER – Slow to begin. Inclined to over-race after being restrained from heels early.

EDITH MARGARET – Shortly after the start laid in, hampering runners to its inside. In this incident was bumped on the hind quarters and became unbalanced. Rider C. Whitely reported that the filly raced greenly for the majority of the race, placing him at a disadvantage.

GEMBEAM – Hampered shortly after the start. Inclined to race ungenerously passing the 900m.

KINGS COUNTY – Hampered shortly after the start. Caught 3 wide without cover in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m. Was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3: Easyloc Maiden H’cap 1100m

GROUP SESSION – Slowly away. Hampered when tightened between runners soon after the start.

WIRRAWAY – Shifted out at the start, bumping with another runner.  When questioned as to the performance of the gelding, which raced below market expectations, jockey D. Simmons was at a loss other than to say that the horse had travelled well to the home turn but had failed to respond to his efforts over the concluding stages.  Trainer D. Micallef advised, in his opinion, the horse, which was having its second start back after a prolonged absence from racing, had failed to back up from its first-up run over 1300m despite having worked well in the meantime. He also believed that the gelding would derive significant improvement from today’s race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

DRUMEOUS – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.

SOUTHERN SPECIAL – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away. Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. Shifted out across heels near the 250m to obtain clear running.

WAY TOO SASSY – Fractious in the barriers. Inclined to race ungenerously when placed in restricted room for a short distance soon after the start.

CORNISH TALES – Bounded in the air as the barriers opened, losing ground.  Inclined to over-race approaching the 600m when being restrained to maintain its position closer to the running rail.

SNOOZE YA LOSE – Over-raced in the middle stages. Jockey J. Stanley was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish line.

PURRHAPS – Slightly held up on straightening until able to obtain clear running approaching the 150m.

SHADEA LADY – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.

Race 5:  Grand Emperor Class 6 Plate – 1100m

Correct weight was delayed to enable jockey J. Stanley, rider of LE CHIFFRE, to review the patrol footage.

AUSSIE TYCOON – Very slowly away after beginning awkwardly.

Stewards inquired into an incident which took place passing the 950m, which resulted in Le CHIFFRE (J. Stanley) being severely checked and losing its position. After hearing evidence and viewing the patrol footage, it was established that near this point LAMERICAN (App. A. Spinks) laid in, hampering CRUISE POWER (N. Seymour), which in turn laid in slightly. LORD MARMADUKE (R. Wiggins), which was racing to the inside of CRUISE POWER, reacted by laying in away from that  runner, causing tightening to the running of LA CHIFFRE, which was closest to the running rail, resulting in that runner being severely checked. As Stewards were unable to hold any individual rider responsible for the incident no further action was taken.

THE BAKER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 6:  Trinity Bannon Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1560m

BLOSSOM – Slowly into stride. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

LOKUM – Held up from the 350m until the 250m.

SLADE AMIGOS – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

UNDER THE WEATHER – When questioned as to the performance of the gelding, which raced below market expectations, jockey C. Whiteley advised that the gelding raced flat today and felt it had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer O. Cairns advised that it was now her intention to send the horse for a spell.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

Race 7:  Justin Stanley Open H’cap – 1300m
