QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY JOCKEY CLUB – SATURDAY 27th APRIL 2019 WEATHER – SHOWERS TRACK RATING – SOFT 6/SOFT 7 @ 12.15 PM/ HEAVY 8 RETROSPECTIVE TO RACE 1 RAIL – 3m Entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. Conway SUPLEMENTARY REPORT From Rockhampton Jockey Club, 26.4.19 – Race 1 MIGHTY EVIE – Trainer reported that the filly had pulled up well following the event, however it was now his intention to send the filly for an immediate spell. ________________________________________ Race 1: CANELAND CENTRAL QTIS 2YR OLD HCP 1200M TABATHA MISS – Delayed the start when the filly proved difficult to load. Trainer J. Manzelman was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly regarding its barrier manners. Rider dropped his whip near the 100m. RED SATIN – Improved to a 3 wide position from the 600m. Race 2: ALLURE LASER & SKIN STUDIO MAIDEN 1200M LOTS OF INTEREST – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. TRUST ISSUES – Began awkwardly and lost ground. CRISTOVAO – Stewards questioned jockey M. Haley regarding the tactics adopted, in particular the reasons after being slow to begin he then elected to improve forward to obtain the lead near the 700m when there appeared to be an opportunity for him to obtain cover towards the rear of the field. He stated that after being slow to begin his intention was to obtain cover, however after obtaining cover the horse commenced to overrace with cover, and at a point near the 900m when inconvenienced by CRAIGLEA TREACLE he was forced wider on the track where the horse then after obtaining clear running commenced to overrace badly and he was unable to restrain before obtaining the outright lead passing the 700m. Stewards after viewing the patrol films in the presence of trainer T. Bannon accepted jockey Haley’s explanation in that he did attempt to maintain a position with cover, and that it was not his intention to improve to the outright lead. Stewards brought the racing manners of the horse to the intention of trainer T. Bannon. Race 3: HIT FM & TRIPLE M MACKAY QTIS 3YR OLD HCP 1200M I’M ROSIE – Jockey R. Payne replaced jockey S. Sheargold, who failed to arrive on course due to transport difficulties. TARAKI – Trainer G. Green was fined $100 for presenting the filly to race without blinkers. The filly subsequently raced in blinkers. Bumped at the start. STARS DON’T RUST – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground. ZLOTO – Began awkwardly and bumped TARAKI. SCOTTISH LAD – Shifted out under pressure near the 100m and when being corrected by its rider then shifted in abruptly. SHIRANDA – Raced wide throughout the event. SHENRON – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event. Race 4: SEVEN NEWS MACKAY B’MARK 55 HCP 1050M CORNISH TALES – Stewards accepted the explanation from jockey S. Sheargold for the reasons for being dual engaged. He was subsequently replaced on CASSAVANCE by L. Tilley. Raced wide for the majority of the event. DEVIOUS – Began awkwardly and shifted out and made contact with DASH OF WIZZARD. Raced wide throughout the event. EGYPTIANBEAR – Tightened for room at the start. TRERICE – Steadied near the 400m from the heels of WAY TOO SASSY when shifting out to the outside of that horse. WAY TOO SASSY – Rider dropped his whip near the 250m. Race 5: THE DAILY MERCURY B’MARK 60 HCP 1300M AUTHADANE – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted when leading by a considerable distance, jockey Sheargold stated his instructions were to ride aggressively in the early stages to obtain a forward position as this is how the gelding performs best. He added it was not his intention to lead by a considerable distance and at a point near the 1000m he attempted to restrain, however the gelding resented this and commenced to overrace and lay out. Trainer J. Lancaster confirmed that the instructions were to obtain a forward position, however was not expecting to lead by an unsuitable distance. Ms Lancaster noted that the gelding was overracing and inclined to lay out when being attempted to restrain and therefore was satisfied with jockey Sheargold’s actions and overall ride. ALL ABOUT MAGIC – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination of the mare, which finished a distant last, revealed it to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Doolan was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for ALL ABOUT MAGIC prior to its next race start. POINT FORWARD – Had to be steadied leaving the 1200m when placed awkwardly at the heels of VAN WINKEL. VAN WINKEL – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey L. Tilley stated that after obtaining a favourable position on the rail the gelding overraced through the middle stages and was then under pressure from the 600m. He added on the home turn he was expecting to weaken and finish at the rear of the field, however the gelding continued to hold its position to the finish. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 6: MOSS ON WOOD OPEN HCP 1560M GOLDEN MANE – Slow to begin and was then hampered shortly after and lost ground. RECALCULATE – Overraced badly through the early and middle stages. DANE CHEVAL – Overraced when leading in the early stages. VEGAS FLYER – When caught racing wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead near the 800m. CASTA – Jockey J. Stanley reported at scale his mount overraced in the early and middle stages. BARBADOS STORM – Near the 500m, when attempting to shift out to improve, bumped SPARE TICKET. GUISSOLA – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. FRENCH HUSSLER – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
