GENERAL
 
Following the running of Race 2 jockey L. Dillon, the rider of PERMAFROST, was observed attempting to manipulate the scales by placing his arm on the partition adjacent to the scales and, after weighing correctly, subsequently weighed in 1kg over the horse’s allotted weight.
 
Jockey L. Dillon pleaded guilty to a charge under AR229(1)(a) of engaging in improper conduct in that following the running of Race 2 he attempted to manipulate the scales process and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of one (1) month, to commence midnight Wednesday 22 January and conclude midnight Saturday 22 February 2020. In determining penalty stewards took into account penalty precedents for similar breaches of this rule.
 
Race 1: TRIPLE M QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 1050M
 
ASPEN LAD – Rider reported that her mount pulled hard in the early stages and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages and in her opinion would derive benefit from its first race start.
 
DACXI KABOOM – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
EMMA ROCKET – Carried wider on the track in the vicinity of the 600m by LATINA ROCKET, which laid out. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice E. Smith stated that after proving fractious to load her mount failed to travel at any stage of the event and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of EMMA ROCKET in relation to its barrier manners. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
LATINA ROCKET – Ran wide on the track in the vicinity of the 600m and laid out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a loose molar.
 
Race 2: HOT FM MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M
 
After viewing the official patrol films, jockey S. Wisemann, the rider of TICKET KEEPER, placed 4th by the Judge, lodged an objection against SCARAMOUCH being declared 3rd, alleging interference in the vicinity of the 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that SCARAMOUCH shifted out four horse widths in the vicinity of the 200m, carrying TICKET KEEPER wider on the track. Bearing in mind the margin of a long head separating both runners at the finish and where the interference occurred, stewards upheld the protest and amended the Judges placings to 1, 8, 4, 3.
 
SCARAMOUCH – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
TICKET KEEPER – Inconvenienced in the vicinity of the 200m and taken wider on the track by SCARAMOUCH, which shifted out when insufficiently clear. Jockey G. Goomany, the rider of SCARAMOUCH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear and his licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, commencing midnight Wednesday 22 January and expiring midnight Thursday 30 January 2020.
 
BEYONCNEIGH – Trainer Mr T. Cook was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for proving difficult to proceed to the start.
 
GREAT LOOKER – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MIGHTY MEERKAT – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 3: TAB BENCHMARK 69 H'CAP – 1200M
 
ALERT BY SEA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ARCHIE’S SON – Slow to begin.
 
LITTLE JOHN – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 4: SEVEN NEWS MACKAY RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H'CAP – 1300M
 
TIME OUT – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 900m after the pace of the race slackened.
 
MUSIC – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
DOUBLE EM – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 900m to avoid heels when the pace of the race slackened. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
MISS POWDER KEG – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 900m after being crossed by L’AMOUR MALADE, began to race keenly and had to be restrained off heels.
 
STARS DON’T RUST – Carried wider in the vicinity of the 700m.
 
AUTHENTIC SWING – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 900m after the pace of the race slackened and overraced for a short distance thereafter. Shifted wider in the vicinity of the 700m, carrying STARS DON’T RUST wider on the track. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
Race 5: TAYLORS SOLICITORS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1300M
 
THE SWELL – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
GOLDEN TREASURE – Raced wide in the early stages before able to improve and cross and take up a leading position.
 
KING KAI – Raced greenly shortly after jumping away and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, inconveniencing NOT LIABLE.
 
NOT LIABLE – Had to be restrained shortly after jumping away to avoid the heels of KING KAI, which shifted in. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey N. Day stated that after receiving interference shortly after jumping away his mount overraced throughout the remainder of the event and when asked for an effort in the vicinity of the 400m failed to respond to his riding and went to the line in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
LITTLE SPOON – When questioned regarding the horse leading today’s event, jockey S. Wiseman stated that she was instructed to take up a position worse than midfield, but after beginning well her mount found itself in a more forward position and rather than restraining the filly she elected to take up a position in the lead. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer’s representative P. Ryan stated that he was surprised to see LITTLE SPOON leading in today’s event but nonetheless would look to continue that racing pattern going forward. He added that it was the filly’s first start for the stable and it had pleased in its work leading into today’s event and he was not surprised with the result.
 
Race 6: MM ELECTRICAL MACKAY BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP – 1560M
 
HENPECKER – Tightened for room on jumping away. Jockey M. Haley stated that his mount failed to travel at any stage of the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
WINSOMEMORE – Tightened on jumping away.
 
JUSTALAD – Overraced throughout the event and in the vicinity of the 700m had to be restrained after improving on to heels.
 
KANUI – Reared on jumping away.
 
CRAIGLEA ARION – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
Race 7: MOJO’S BENCHMARK 60 H'CAP – 1100M
 
MARCHING ORDERS – Shifted out abruptly in the vicinity of the 50m in an attempt to improve into a run where there was insufficient room and had to be checked as a consequence. Rider N. Day was severely reprimanded.
 
TADWEEN – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
FIDEREUS – Had to be restrained in the vicinity of the 650m after improving on to the heels of TA CHANSON.
 
SHROUDED – Had to be restrained in the vicinity of the 650m after improving on to the heels of GINGERSNAP.
