SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT


EMERALD, 26TH JULY 2020 – RACE 2

Trainer G Bell has now advised that BROOK’S PLEASURE had now been retired.

ROCKHAMPTON, 25TH JULY 2020

Trainer J Wehlow notified stewards that ROCK READY had now been gelded.


GENERAL

As T Chambers was indisposed to due illness, replacements were approved as per raceday summary. Jockey Chambers was advised she must produce a medical prior to her next engagements.

Race 1: LASER CLINICS MACKAY QTIS 2YO & 3YO MDN HCP – 1200M

The start of the race was delayed when SMOKIN’ TOMMY had to be resaddled and was further delayed when IMALI proved difficult to load.

RIPOVA – Unable to secure clear running over the final 100m.

STARSONIC – Jumped awkwardly and raced wide in the early stages.

SCANDINA – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages Disappointed for a run near the 50m mark between SHEZASHOOTINGSTAR and STARSONIC. Held up over the final 50m and had to shift wide to obtain clear running and in doing so, was bumped heavily by RIPOVA.

STRUTTAROUND – Raced wide in the early stages. A post-race veterinary of examination of the gelding which weakened in the home straight revealed no abnormalities.

MAGIC IN ME – Hampered approaching the 50m and winning post when SCANDINA was bumped heavily by RIPOVA.

GOLDEN TREASURE – Momentarily held up approaching the 50m.

SMOKIN’ TOMMY – Raced wide in the early stages.

UNLIKELYOCCURENCE – Slow to begin.

IMALI – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that IMALI must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start for being very difficult to load.


Race 2: STOMPING ELEPHANTS JEWELLERY MACKAY CL 6 PLT – 1200M

KAHUNA – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding who weakened badly in the straight revealed KAHUNA to be suffering from heart arrthymia. Trainer N Seymour was advised that prior to its next start KAHUNA must officially barrier trial and provide a veterinary clearance together with the results of an ECG to Stewards.

ONLY WANNA SING – Slow to begin.

COASTAL BOY – Raced three-wide in the early stages. Shifted in approaching the 600m.

I DID IT AGAIN – Overraced in the early stages. Approaching the 600m had to be checked when COASTAL BOY shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry B Pengelly, rider of COASTAL BOY, was found guilty of careless riding and his license was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 5th of December and to expire on midnight the 12th of December. When assessing penalty, Stewards considered jockey Pengellys’ good record and a slight shift out from Mr Tindall which contributed to the incident.

FANAAR – Restrained from a wide barrier to the rear of the field to gain a position closer to the rail. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

Race 3: KEY SOLUTIONS GROUP BM69 HCP – 1560M

CASTA – Raced wide in the early stages.

ELLE A WALKING – Held up approaching the home turn.

MUSTARRID – Laid in rounding the home turn.

FINUCANE MISSILE – Slow to begin.

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied off heels of LITTLE HUNTER approaching the 600m.

Race 4: JETSON SALVAGE & SCRAP METAL BM58 HCP – 1100M

TA CHANSON – Raced wide early stages.

EYEBEA DANSER – Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J McConachy reported that the mare got the tongue over the bit during the event.

EPHESIAN – Reared on jumping. Laid out over the concluding stages.

BONDAGE – Jockey N Day was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish.

CELEBRATION DAY – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m, had to be checked when BONDAGE shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry, rider of BONDAGE, N Day, plead guilty to a charge of careless riding and his license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence at midnight the 4th of August and expire at midnight the 13th of August. When assessing penalty, stewards took into account that jockey Day had only recently returned from a careless riding suspension.

STEPPED IN PAINT – Overraced in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

NINEONEONE – Shifted in on jumping. Overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied off the heels of STEPPED IN PAINT approaching the 900m. Laid out approaching the home turn.

Race 5: IBIS MACKAY MAGIC MILLIONS WHITSUNDAY 3YO GUINEAS – 1560M

The start of this race was delayed 2 minutes when SOUTHERN SWING had to be resaddled behind the gates.

SOUTHERN SWING – Bumped with ZIGGI ROCKS in the vicinity of the 250m.

SIDE HUSTLE – Raced wide throughout.

HEY PAL – Held up momentarily for clear running after rounding the home turn.

ZIGGI ROCKS – In the vicinity of the 250m, was hampered when SOUTHERN SWING shifted out.

TUTELAGE – Laid out rounding the home turn.

IN WAVES – Raced wide throughout.

PANIAGUA – Checked at the start when SIDE HUSTLE shifted out.

VALADYIUM – Taken wide rounding the home turn by TUTELAGE which laid out. When questioned regarding performance, jockey C Whiteley stated that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. He stated that the filly travelled well throughout but when asked for an effort, the filly failed to respond and proved disappointing. Trainer D Hansen could offer no explanation for the performance and undertook to report back to stewards on the condition of the filly in the days subsequent.

Race 6: MCDONALD MURPHY MACHINERY CL 3 HCP – 1300M

RULER – Slow to begin.

BRAD – Improved onto heels and had to be steadied approaching the 500m. Rider J Stanley reported that his mount hung out throughout the event and more specifically in the home straight, which resulted in him not being able to fully test his mount to the line. Trainer T Bannon was advised that BRAD would have compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.


Race 7: TAB QTISX 2020 MACKAY NEWMARKET – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed five minutes when MONSIEUR GUSTAVE needed the tongue tie to be refitted.

MONSIEUR GUSTAVE – Raced wide throughout.

DEADLY CHOICES – Raced wide throughout.

DOCTOR ZOUS – When questioned regarding performance, rider of DOCTOR ZOUS, B Pengelly stated that although he had to do a little bit of work to get to the lead, he was still quite content with how his mount was travelling. He added however that when placed under pressure, DOCTOR ZOUS only responded fairly and went to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination revealed DOCTOR ZOUS to be displaying signs of the thumps.

SPACETIME – Held up momentarily rounding the home turn and over the final 150m.

DRUMBEATS CHOICE – Laid in after rounding the home turn and had to be steadied off the heels of DEADLY CHOICES.

WARWICK AVENUE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, T Bannon stated that the horse had worked well since last start at Townsville and she was confident of a positive showing. She added that at Townsville, WARWICK AVENUE had only been beaten 2.5L and although she was happy with the way the horse was ridden that day, she felt with the added benefit of a senior jockey today and the fact that the gelding performs very well at Mackay, would make a difference and was confident of good performance. Stewards noted the explanation.

BOGEY MAN – Raced wide throughout.

FABULONH – When the pace slackened approaching the 1000m, had to be steadied off the heels of DRUMBEATS CHOICE.

Race 8: TAYLORS SOLICTORS QTISX 2020 MACKAY CUP – 2000M

FAB’S COWBOY – Pulled hard in the early stages. Hampered rounding the home turn.

LADY SKILLS – Rider C Jokic reported that LADY SKILLS stood flat footed missing the start and therefore couldn’t take up a position in its customary handy position. She further added then when she pressured LADY SKILLS to make up ground, she immediately had concerns with her mounts action and therefore elected not to place LADY SKILLS under any further pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a torn shoulder muscle and the mare to be lame in the near fore. Trainer M Geaney reported that LADY SKILLS would now be retired. He was nonetheless advised that should LADY SKILLS continue a racing career, he would be required to provide a certificate of fitness prior to its next start.

FASTNET FLYER – Held up approaching the home turn.

BUSTER BLOCK – Rider P Cullen was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(i) for consecutive use of the whip in the straight. He was also cautioned for his use of the whip over the final 100m.

HUNTER ISLAND – As R Wiggins couldn’t make the allotted weight, B Appo was permitted to substitute as the rider. R Wiggins was subsequently fined $300.

Race 9: STYLISH FILLY BM60 HCP – 1800M

STYLISH LUCK – Slow to begin. Pulled hard throughout.

RESORT – Reared as the start was affected. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the record of RESORT.

NIATROSS – As T Chambers was unable to fulfil her engagement, Apprentice E Smith was permitted to substitute as the rider.

JUSTALAD – Overraced in the middle stages.

DAWSON DELIGHT – As A Thompson was unable to fulfil her engagement, B Appo was permitted to substitute as the rider. A Thompson was subsequently fined $200 for failing to fulfil his engagement.
