Race 1: BECOME A MEMBER 2021 BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1800m

STUBAI- Raced wide until a point near the 1400m. Jockey R Wiggins then elected to improve to a 3 wide position passing the 1000m reaching the lead near the 800m.

SCHAPPOSE- Raced wide until a point approaching the 1300m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.

TAVI MCBRIDE- Obliged to steady after improving onto the heels of another runner when the pace slackened near the 1300m. Near the 100m improved onto the heels of a tiring runner and was obliged to alter course.


After the running of the event the track was upgraded to a Good 3




Race 2: CHRISTMAS MEETING SATURDAY 19th DECEMBER MAIDEN PLATE 1560m

LADY CECILIA- Began awkwardly and bumped shortly after. Raced wide in the early stages. Jockey Whiteley advised that no specific instructions were given and added that after beginning awkwardly he elected to attempt to obtain cover in a midfield position however when runners to his inside improved he was obliged to remain wide and then elected, given the fast early speed, to restrain in an effort to obtain cover in a rearward position and attempt to finish the race off. Jockey Whiteley added further that, through the tempo of the race suited his runner, he was nonetheless obliged to place the mare under pressure from the 600m before finishing off fairly. Stewards noted the explanation.

BALNAGAL- Began awkwardly.

NEW SECRET- Raced very wide rounding the home turn. Jockey P Romeo advised that his mount was inclined to hang out from the 700m.

GOOD AS A ROCKET- Slow into stride. Inclined to over-race in the early stages. Held up behind tiring runners from the 600m until entering the home straight at which time was obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running.

GLITTER EXPRESS- Raced wide in the early stages.

BORROMEO- Commenced to over-race when steadied passing the 1300m and continued to do so for a short distance after.






Race 3: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1560m

IFYOUKNOWHATIMEAN- Raced wide throughout. Jockey J Stanley advised that his mount never travelled throughout and failed to let down in the home straight.

TRACKMAN- Bumped on jumping.

SPIRITUAL ROSE- Bumped on jumping.

GRACEFUL ZARIFA- Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to steady momentarily and shift in to secure clear running. Passing the 200m shifted in and away from the heels of STREET ROGUE, which shifted in marginally under pressure, inconveniencing MIGHTY MEERKAT. App K Southam was reminded of her obligations when shifting ground.

MIGHTY MEERKAT- Inconvenienced and obliged to stop riding when tightened by GRACEFUL ZARIFA passing the 200m.

MEATBALL- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

STREET ROGUE- Shifted in under pressure passing the 200m.

REBEL LAKE- Jockey S Sheargold was fined $300 under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he did use his whip in an excessive manner, 16 times, throughout the event.




Race 4: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS 3yo HANDICAP 1100m

LADY LOWBURN- Began awkwardly and blundered.

ASPEN LAD- Bumped on jumping. Commenced to over-race approaching the 800m. Obliged to steady off the heels of KETCHIKAN GOLD, which shifted in marginally, passing the 700m. Raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder. Trainer D Johnston advised he may trial the use of a tongue tie on the gelding in the future. Trainer D Johnston also advised that he would have blood samples taken from the gelding for analysis and undertook to advise Stewards of the result. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

PRINCESS RULES- Began awkwardly and was buffeted between runners. Upon entering the home straight shifted out abruptly when attempting to find clear running. App C Collis was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR131(a). Obliged to alter course passing the 100m to avoid heels.

KETCHIKAN GOLD- Shifted in marginally passing the 800m momentarily hampering ASPEN LAD which was obliged to steady. Jockey N Thomas was reminded of his obligations to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground. Raced wide the majority.

SANCY ROSE- Commenced to race keenly on heels passing the 500m. Inclined to layout down the running particularly over the concluding stages placing Jockey J Felix at a disadvantage. Trainer R Kirkwood advised that it was his intention to experiment with gear changes on the filly going forward. Nonetheless, Mr Kirkwood was advised a warning would be place on the fillies racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.




Race 5: TAB MAKE A DATE WITH PLAY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100m


Declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey N Day, rider of 2nd place getter VOLUM, lodged an objection against TELL EVERYBODY (W D’Avila) being declared the winner sighting interference throughout the home straight. After considering the matter Stewards were of the opinion that the degree of interference suffered by VOLUM did not exceeded the margin of a short half head between the two horses at the finish and therefore the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judges placings.

VOLUM- Bumped by TELL EVERYBODY entering the home straight and nearing the 200m.

TELL EVERYBODY- Held up for clear running approaching the home turn until a point nearing the 200m and at such time bumped with VOLUM (N Day).

CATMOSPHERE- Restless in the barriers prior to the start. Slow to muster early speed despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey C Jokic advised that the instructions had been to be positive on the gelding however, after being slow away her mount failed to respond to her urgings and she was forced to settle in a rearward position. Jockey Jokic advised further that, in her opinion, the gelding may be better suited to races over further distances going forward.

ARARRAC- Raced wide throughout.

MYZABOOM- Became awkwardly placed on the heels of THE SWELL passing the 800m and was obliged to steady.

THE SWELL- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Passing the 100m shifted in under pressure and tightened HARRY ROCKET (N Thomas) which was obliged to steady as a result.




Race 6: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR FUNCTIONS OPEN HANDICAP 1300m

ROCKETTE ROCKET- Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure passing the 200m tightening DRUMBEAT’S CHOICE.

RAIDEN- Obliged to steady and shift wider after improving onto the heels passing the 1000m.

ROCKETHEAD- Inclined to over-race in the early stages. Near the 1000m forced wider by RAIDEN which shifted wider after improving onto heels.

DRUMBEATS CHOICE- Became awkwardly placed on heels when racing in restricted room after ROCKETTE ROCKET shifted out under pressure passing the 200m.




Race 7: BOOK CHRISTMAS FUNCTIONS AT MTC CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1300m

MYSTIC EYES- Began awkwardly. Bumped DISCO MO passing the 800m when shifting wider to obtain clear running. On returning to scale Jockey J Felix was found to be in excess of a 1/2kg over the mares required weight. Acting under the provisions of AR211 Stewards suspended Jockey Felix’s license to ride in races for a period of 7 days to commence midnight the 5th of December and expire midnight the 12th of December 2020.

DISCO MO- Bumped on jumping. Taken wider passing the 800m when MYSTIC EYES improved to its inside. Shifted back in shortly after to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside.

SPRINGTHORPE- Inclined to over-race in the early stages. Stewards question Jockey N Day regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding. Jockey Day advised that whilst his horse was over-racing at that point he noted that near the 800m MYSTIC EYES (J Felix) had shifted wider easing DISCO MO wider and was mindful that App Collis was restraining to obtain cover and did not want to be caught in an awkward position should that runner shift in abruptly.

ACADEMY HILL- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.






Race 8: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 10TH DECEMBER 0-55 HANDICAP 1200m


MONSTROCITY- Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 600m. Tired noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to both hind legs consistent with being galloped on in running.

INVISIBLE GIRL- Inconvenienced near the 600m.

FINE ELSEWHERE- Laid out under pressure near the 100m.

BOLD SENSATION- Slow to begin.

BOLD ZIP- Inconvenienced soon after the start.

DAWLISH- Knuckled on jumping.

MALVAGIO- Raced wide throughout. Hung in on entering the home straight.

BLACK JAGUAR- Raced wide throughout. Reared as the start was effected then commenced to over-race for some distance after.

WITH TRUST- Brushed the inside running rail passing the 200m and became unbalanced.

TOKAREV- Checked when tightened in the early part of the straight and again tightened for racing room near the 100m.

SHE’S MAGANDA- Steadied off heels when tightened for room in the early part of the straight and lost ground.


Stewards inquired into the reason/s Jockey W D’Avila restrained his mount passing the 600m. After taking evidence from the riders involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that approaching the 600m DAWLISH (App C Collis) shifted in taking MONSTROCITY (R Wiggins) in onto the running of INVISIBLE GIRL (W D’Avila) which was tightened for room and inconvenienced. App C Collis was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for this incident.



Upon entering the home straight INVISIBLE GIRL (W D’Avila) was attempting to secure a tight run to the inside of FINE ELSEWHERE (J Felix), which was endeavouring to hold its line, causing those two runners to bump and become unbalanced. Whilst unbalanced FINE ELSEWHERE shifted wider. SHE’S MAGANDA (N Thomas) which was improving to the outside of FINE ELSEWHERE became awkwardly placed on that runners heels and shifted wider bumping with TOKAREV (N Summers) which in turn bumped with the hind quarters of MALVAGIO (A Sewell) causing that runner to become unbalanced and shift in marginally further tightening TOKAREV causing that runner to check. Shortly after, FINE ELSEWHERE commenced to layout under pressure when tiring placing TOKAREV in restricted room causing that runner to be eased. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied any rider/s could be held accountable for the incident no further action was taken. Nonetheless, Jockey’s W D’Avila and J Felix were advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
