Correct weight for this event was delayed to allow Stewards to inquire into the circumstances that resulted in BATTLE and KAHUNA jumping from the wrong barriers. Stewards considered evidence from the Starter, Jockey C. Spry, Jockey S. Sheargold, Mr N. Seymour, the trainer of KAHUNA and Mr A. Cameron, the trainer of BATTLE. Stewards were able to determine that a clerical error had been made by the Starter resulting in the two horses being called into the wrong barriers. After hearing submissions, stewards acting under the provisions of AR198(2)(c) declared BATTLE to be a non-starter after it was deemed that the gelding was disadvantaged by being loaded into the outside barrier.
