SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
 
GENERAL
Rider B Appo did not attend today’s meeting due to incurring a recent suspension and was replaced on his rides as per the summary.
 
Race 1: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1560 metres
 
VERBALIZER (NZ) – A pre-race veterinary examination passed the gelding to start.
 
SAYL (GB) – Briefly impeded at the start.
 
SCENT OF FEAR – Bumped with CRAIGLEA ORION on several occasions in the home straight.
 
CRAIGLEA ARION – Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped with SCENT OF FEAR on several occasions in the home straight resulting in rider H Richardson losing her whip passing the 200m.
 
MISHANI COURAGE – A pre-race veterinary examination cleared the gelding to race due to it racing within the previous seven days. Trainer J Manzelmann advised it was his intention to retire MISHANI COURAGE.
 
BATTLE – Reared at the start. Approaching the 250m had to steady off heels to obtain clear racing room. Lost its near hind plate during the running. 
 
Race 2: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
There was slight delay to the start of this race due to LASCO and ISIS CARMELLA requiring resaddled.
 
COCHRANE – Raced wide over the early stages. Shifted ground near the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
 
LASCO – Bumped with IT’S A PLOY on jumping. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages placing rider N Day in difficulty. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
 
CAPPY ROCKET – Shifted outwards at the start dictating CRAIGLEA BANDIT wider on the track.
 
IT'S A PLOY – Bumped with LASCO on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ISIS CARMELLA – Laid outwards in the final stages.
 
AVOIDING HER – Became awkward placed on heels approaching the 800m.
 
CRAIGLEA BANDIT – Raced keenly over the early stages.
 
 
Race 3: BOOK YOUR EVENTS AT THE CLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1100 metres
 
GAMBOA – Raced wide early stages.
 
ASK ME TOMORROW – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BITTERGREYMAGIC – Laid outwards throughout the home straight.
 
OUR STORMY GIRL – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
DR NEIGH – Was slow to begin. Awkwardly placed on heels shortly after the start. Improved wide middle stages. Laid inwards home straight.
 
DELAGO'S GIRL – Permission was granted by the Stewards for M McGillivray to ride the filly .5kg overweight. Was slow to begin. Raced wide early stages.
 
 
Race 4: MORE THAN JUST A RACECOURSE Maiden Plate 1300 metres
 
FLAG RAISER – Apprentice rider M Potgeiter was questioned regarding his riding instructions when FLAG RAISER settled in a handy position which was not its usual racing pattern. Mr Potgeiter advised he was instructed to be positive at the start and had anticipated settling midfield. FLAG RAISER had jumped better than anticipated and after being caught wide briefly at the start he elected to improve to a handy position.
 
MISHANI PATRIOT – Raced wide throughout.
 
TEELING – Shifted inwards under pressure in the home straight dictating BEYOND APPROACH inwards. Rider N Day was reminded of his obligations to ensure he stops and straightens his mount earlier in future circumstances.
 
BEYOND REPROACH – Shifted outwards at the start crowding another runner. Was dictated inwards over the final stages by TEELING. Rider N Thomas viewed the video replays prior to correct weight being declared. After viewing the replays Mr Thomas did not wish to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared.
 
CHAMPAGNE AT DAWN – Held up for racing room in the early stages of the home straight before shifting ground outwards at the 200m to obtain clear running.
 
TAVIVALLEY (NZ) – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance of TAVIVALLEY rider W D’Avila advised it failed to respond to his urgings when placed under pressure and could offer no further explanation.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to detect any abnormalities.

Race 5: BOOK NOW FOR AMATEURS SAT 29TH MAY Class 2 Handicap 1300 metres
 
TRACKMAN (NZ) – Jumped awkwardly and was slow away as a result. Raced in restricted room over the final stages and wasn’t fully tested to the line by rider N Day.
 
MONSTER OF POWER – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start.
 
HAVANNAH SUNSET – Raced wide through the early stages.
 
STARSONIC – Shifted outwards shortly after the start placing MONSTOR OF POWER in restricted room. Apprentice rider C Collis was fined $600 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on eight occasions prior to the 100m three more than permitted.
 
CELEBRATION DAY – Slow to begin. Held up final stages.
 
AZIOC – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly over the early stages and was caught wide.
 
 
Race 6: JETSON SALVAGE & SCRAP METAL Class 6 Handicap 1100 metres
 
There was a delay to the start of this race due to the veterinarian treating a horse in the tie up stalls.
 
MONSIEUR MACRON (NZ) – Raced keenly over the early stages. Shifted outwards near the 100m dictating STAR OF O’REILLY wider.
 
STAR OF O'REILLY (NZ) – Held up prior to the 200m then bumped with LIEUTENANT when improving its position into a marginal gap which had presented. Dictated outwards over the final stages.
 
ALL STAR ROCKET – Was a late scratching at 4.17pm after refusing to proceed to the start. The connections were advised the mare will be required to complete a satisfactory trial prior to resuming racing. Prior to correct weight being declared Stewards ordered all bets invested on ALL STAR ROCKET prior to 4.17pm were subject to the following deductions;
 
26 cents win and 9 cents the place first placed STAR OF O’REILLY
19 cents second placed MONSIEUR MACRON
34 cents third placed LIEUTENANT
 
JOHNNY WHITESOX – Was fractious in the barrier prior to the start.
 
LIEUTENANT – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer S Rundle for the late declaration of his rider. Raced keenly through the early stages. Shifted inwards marginally approaching the 200m bumping with STAR OF O’REILLY which had improved into a gap which had presented.
 
RED SATIN – Slow to begin. Compounded over the final stages with a veterinary examination failing to reveal any abnormalities. Rider A Sewell advised RED SATIN had failed to respond when placed under pressure and he was concerned with the manner RED SATIN finished the race.  Trainer J Manzelmann was advised RED SATIN was stood down for a satisfactory trial and a veterinary clearance.
 
ROCKETHEAD – Begun awkwardly and was slow away as a result.
 
Race 7: RACING NEXT FRIDAY 21ST MAY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1100 metres
 
SEQUABLUR – Raced wide early stages.
 
DOUBLE MAJOR – A pre-race veterinary examination was conducted due to the gelding racing within the previous seven days and it was cleared to race.
 
OYASHIO – Dictated wider on the track near the 200m by the improving KARENO.
 
GOLDIE'S ARCHER – Raced wide early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare was lame in the near fetlock. Trainer W Winters was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare racing again.
 
KARENO – Stewards accepted the explanation given by trainer C Taylor for the late declaration of his rider. Angled outwards near the 150m dictating OYASHIO wider.
 
ZEBLAN – Scrambled on jumping and was slow to begin. Had to be restrained shortly after the start after improving onto the heels of runners. Raced in restricted room passing the 150m. Stewards questioned A Sewell regarding the vigour he showed over the final stages. Mr Sewell advised that it was his intention to improve between the leader SEQUABLUR and CLIFTON COUNTY which was racing to his outside. Mr Sewell advised the leader SEQUABLUR was running about as was CLIFTON COUNTY. Mr Sewell advised he was mindful of putting himself in an awkward position on heels of runners and he elected to continue to ride hands and heels. After viewing replays and hearing Mr Sewell’s explanation the Stewards were satisfied with the explanation tendered and no further action was warranted.
 
SCORIA STAR – Raced wide early stages. Raced keenly when racing in restricted room early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BAUHINIA TED – Raced wide throughout.
 
CLIFTON COUNTY – Laid outwards in the home straight.
