Race 3: SKY RACING Class 6 Plate 1560 metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider a protest lodged by N Day, rider of 3rd placegetter, DECROUX, against SCHAPPOSE (NZ) being declared the second, alleging interference over the final 300m. After considering all the evidence Stewards found that approaching the 300m NECESSITAS (NZ) shifted out carrying DECROUX out onto SCHAPPOSE (NZ). Approaching the 100m SCHAPPOSE (NZ) laid in placing DECROUX in restricted room for a number of strides. Bearing in mind the minimal contact between both runners and that the main interference suffered to DECROUX was caused by the shift of NECESSITAS (NZ), Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had such incident not occurred DECROUX would have finished in advance of SCHAPPOSE (NZ) and, therefore, the protest was dismissed.

Decroux – Hampered on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

Approaching the 800m had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of NECESSITAS (NZ) which was being restrained while overracing, Apprentice E. Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider a protest lodged by B. Pengelly, rider of 3rd placegetter, MARTO, against BILL ‘N’ TED being declared second, alleging interference over the final 150m. After considering all the evidence Stewards found that approaching the 75m BILL ‘N’ TED shifted out causing MARTO to have to be restrained and shift out to avoid the heels of BILL ‘N’ TED. Bearing in mind the interference, proximity to the finish and the beaten margin, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had such incident not occurred MARTO would have finished in advance of BILL ‘N’ TED and, therefore, the protest was dismissed.

Marto – Slow into stride. Approaching the 75m had to be restrained and shift wider on the track when having to avoid the heels of BILL ‘N’ Ted, which shifted out when insufficiently clear. Jockey N.
