GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following weight alterations due to the current restrictions:
Race 2: A Sewell – MISHANI PATRIOT - +.5kg
Race 6: S Sheargold – COMMANDER’S WATCH - + 1kg

Due to no other riders available Stewards permitted R McMahon to ride his mounts MISTER BEAN and BETTER DAYS AHEAD above the carded weight. Stewards also permitted D Simmons to ride SHE’S OUR EMPRESS in excess of its carded weight due to no other rider being available.

Race 1: TAB Class 6 Plate 1300 metres

CABALO ESCURO – Bumped with a runner to the outside on jumping.

SCENIC SIGHT – Bumped with a runner to the inside on jumping.

QUIDNI – Raced keenly in the early stages.

SIDETRIP – Raced ungenerously for a short distance approaching the 600m.

GRACIOUS GARCON – Momentarily held up approaching the 300m.



Race 2: MCDONALD MURPHY MACHINERY Maiden Handicap 1300 metres

DOMINIUM – Shifted in on jumping inconveniencing a runner to the inside. Jockey C Spry reported that the gelding over-raced throughout and failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealing no abnormalities.

MISTER BEAN – Began awkwardly and was inconvenienced by a runner to the outside subsequently inconveniencing a runner to its inside.

REFUTATION – Inconvenienced by a runner to the outside shortly after the start. Jockey A Spinks advised that after being inconvenienced shortly after the start the gelding ran on well over the concluding stages. Jockey Spinks advised that in his opinion the gelding would appreciate further ground and would benefit from today’s first run back in over a month.

JIMBO JONES – Inclined to lay in near the 200m.

SECLUSION – Raced wide for the majority. Jockey D Simmons pled guilty to charge under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his on 17 occasions three more than permitted. Jockey Simmons license to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven days to commence midnight 18th December 2021 up to and including midnight 25th December 2021. Jockey Simmons was advised of his right to internal review.

MISHANI PATRIOT – Jockey A Sewell was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip on 15 occasions one more than permitted.



Race 3: CUSTOM FLUIDPOWER QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres

FLAMING ASTEROID – Shifted out on jumping inconveniencing a runner to the outside. Shifted in near the 1000m when insufficiently clear of STRIKING ROCKET which at the time was over-racing resulting in that runner having to be further restrained. Apprentice A Donald was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a). In considering the penalty Stewards took into consideration the fact that STRIKING ROCKET had commenced to race fiercely from jumping and had continued to over-race thereafter placing that runner awkwardly when approaching the first turn. Stewards also took into consideration the fact that there was a minor shift from I’M STROLLING to the inside of STRIKING ROCKET which had also contributed to the incident.

MILKY ROCKET – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when a runner to the inside shifted out. Raced wide in the early stages.

STRIKING ROCKET – Commenced to race fiercely as the start was affected and continued to over-race for some distance thereafter. Awkwardly placed onto heels when a runner to the outside crossed over near the 1000m.

MAYHEM GIRL – Inclined to over-race in the early stages.

I’M STROLLING – Inclined to lay in passing the 100m.

BEAN DEADLY – Apprentice T Fenlon was dislodged while returning to the saddling enclosure. She was subsequently examined by QAS officers and cleared fit to continue riding.



Race 4: RICHGLEN MAINTENANCE BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1560 metres

CELEBRATION DAY – Slowly away after being hampered by another runner. Commenced to over-race and became awkwardly placed for some distance between the 1000m and the 800m. Carried wider on the home turn when a runner to the inside shifted out. Inclined to lay inwards in the home straight.

AMUTHON – Slow to begin.

ROCK ‘N’ SOL – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 400m. Shifted out on the home turn carrying a runner to the outside wider.

SCENT OF FEAR – Laid in passing the 200m.

DAWSON DIAMOND – Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages.

RUFFIN’ IT (NZ) – Jockey C Spry reported that the gelding brushed the rail and became awkward in its action over the final stages . Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to disclose any abnormalities.



Race 5: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1200 metres

SCORIA STAR – Was reluctant to load causing a delay to the start. Shifted out on jumping bumping a runner to the outside. Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages bumping with a runner to the outside on several occasions. Jockey J Stanley was reminded of his obligations to straighten his mount under similar circumstances. Trainer M Lehmann was advised the mare was required to complete a satisfactory barrier trial.

YUAN FEN – Bumped by another runner which shifted out on jumping. Bumped on with SCORIA STAR inside the 100m and on the finish line over the concluding stages when a runner to the inside commenced to lay out.

TEMPO (NZ) – Slow to begin.

BETTER DAYS AHEAD – Shifted in shortly after jumping inconveniencing runners to the inside.

MOSS THE BOSS – Inconvenienced shortly after jumping when a runner to the outside commenced to shift in.

ACADEMY HILL - Inconvenienced shortly after jumping when a runner to the outside commenced to shift in.

OUR ARIANA – Over-raced in the middle stages.

NO HARM DONE – Momentarily held up passing the 100m.

Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey A Sewell rider of 2nd placed YUAN FEN the opportunity to view the patrol to determine whether there were grounds for an objection to be lodged against 1st placed SCORIA STAR ridden by J Stanley alleging interference over the final 100m. After viewing the patrol footage jockey Sewell lodged an objection against the winner SCORIA STAR. Stewards obtained evidence from jockey Sewell, jockey Stanley and trainer M Lehmann. Stewards established although SCORIA STAR had shifted outwards the initial contact was minimal and the second contact was made on the finishing line. Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference from SCORIA STAR had cost YUAN FEN first placing. Subsequently correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.


Race 6: STARCUT FLOWERS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1800 metres

TENNESSEE WHISKEY – Jumped away awkwardly.

COMMANDER’S WATCH – Raced keenly in the early stages. Disappointed for clear running from the 400m to near the 150m.

CUBIX – Made the crossing awkwardly. Over-raced throughout. Inclined to lay in approaching the 200m.

BATTLE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the middle stages.

MUFASTA – Raced wide in the middle stages.

MANHATTAN WHIRL – Shifted wide in the middle stages. Trainer K Miller reported that the mare had bled from both nostrils post-race. Trainer K Miller advised that it is his intention to retire the mare from racing. Nonetheless he was advised that MANHATTAN WHIRL was stood down for the 3-month mandatory ban from racing and must gallop 1000m satisfactorily in the presence of a Steward prior to again being able to start in a race pursuant to AR79(4).
