Race 1: AUSPEED TUNING Class 3 Plate 1300 metresKAHAYLAAN – Slow to begin. Over raced in the middle stages of the event. Approaching the 700m improved onto the heels of STARHATTAN and had to be restrained. PHOENIX FLYER – Over the concluding stages of the event had to shift out to avoid the heels of SABOR. PITCHFORK – Approaching the 1100m made the bend awkwardly and shifted out. SHADOW GODDESS – Slow to begin. SABOR – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. ALLARES – Jumped away awkwardly. DIRTY DIARY – When questioned regarding the tactics used in today’s event apprentice C. Collis stated that he was advised to try and settle handy in the race and after jumping well elected to take a leading position. When also questioned Trainer P. Fleming confirmed the instructions given to apprentice Collis and further added that he was aware of the lack of pace of other runners in the race and had anticipated DIRTY DIARY settling in a forward position. Trainer P. Fleming was reminded of his obligations under AR100(1)(a) to ensure he advises of any change of tactics to Stewards in the future. STARHATTAN – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Over raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Race 2: WENDELBORN FAMILY Maiden Handicap 1300 metresLONDON BELL (NZ) – Approaching the 200m laid out bumping with MACHINATE. TWISTED WHISKEY – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. SHALUNA – Raced ungenerously throughout the event. Near the 750m shifted inwards making contact with NALSEENDORI to its inside. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer C. Taylor was advised that a warning was placed on the filly’s record for its racing manners. MACHINATE – Approaching the 200m bumped with LONDON BELL (NZ). MOTORED – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages of the event. NALSSENDORI – Passing the 1050m made the bend awkwardly bumping with MACMSHAMUS. Race 3: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIELLE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metresBIG ROCKET – Approaching the 900m put in an awkward stride when making the bend. CARTWRIGHT – Shifted out shortly after the start. PRIZED BENEFIT – Hampered on jumping by RUN PEGGY RUN. Over raced passing the 800m becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CARTWRIGHT. SUPER VOGUE – Jumped away awkwardly. RUN PEGGY RUN – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Jumped away awkwardly shifting in abruptly making contact with PRIZED BENEFIT. Race 4: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 2000 metresLETS TORQUE A DEEL – Improved wide with cover in the middle stages of the event. POTAWATOMI – Jockey W. D’Avila was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m one more than permitted. TICTOC TICTOC – Jumped away awkwardly. Shifted wider approaching the 800m to obtain a leading position. NAOMI – Slow to begin. MONSTER OF POWER – Gave ground concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to disclose any abnormalities. SCORPIO RISING (NZ) – Tired from the 600m failing to prove competitive over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Campeao was advised that veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next future race start. Race 5: STARCUT FLOWERS OPEN Handicap 1300 metresMASTER JAMIE – Bumped on jumping by VILLA VILLEKULLA. Raced three-wide without cover on the pace throughout the event. BRAD – When questioned regarding the performance in today’s event, Jockey L. Tilley advised stewards that in his opinion BRAD objected to racing in tight quarters and after being placed under pressure failed to respond to his urging. After failing to respond Jockey Tilley elected to not place undue pressure on the gelding over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer T Cook advised Stewards that leading up to yesterday’s Rockhampton meeting and today’s meeting at Mackay his team had been working well in training and had anticipated a forward showing of his runners. After all his runners failed to run up to his expectations Mr Cook advised he will be conducting blood tests of his racing team in the coming days. RATHER SALUBRIOUS (NZ) – Raced wide throughout the event. FANAAR (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages of the event.CABALO ESCURO – Jumped away awkwardly shifting out making contact with VILLA VILLEKULLA. VILLA VILLEKULLA – Hampered on jumping by CABALO ESCURO. ZIPSPUR – Slow to begin. Race 6: TAB MACKAY AMATEUR CUP OPEN Handicap 1800 metresBERNIE'S TIGER – Jumped away awkwardly making contact with the inside barrier partition. Had to be restrained approaching the 1400m when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of QUALITY ASSET. When questioned regarding the today’s performance Apprentice J Doolan advised Stewards that BERNIE’S TIGER felt lethargic and had failed to respond to her riding urges. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have soreness in the neck region. SCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Made the bend awkwardly shortly after the crossing. QUALITY ASSET – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Made the bend awkwardly shortly after the crossing. STARS DON'T RUST – Shifted out on jumping. AKATINO (GER) – Shifted outwards near the 200m while placed under pressure. MENSCHKEIT – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Race 7: EDYE BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1100 metresMR STORM (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly shifting out onto OUR ARIANA. Raced in restricted room passing the 600m. KASINOVA KID – Raced wide throughout the event. STARSONIC – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. GRAND DE LAGO – Raced wide throughout the event. NUREMBURG CASTLE – Slow to begin. GUMNUTS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. CHAMPAGNE AT DAWN – Slow to begin. Had to shift out passing the 200m to obtain clear racing room. BETTER DAYS AHEAD – Hampered on jumping by OUR ARIANA. Raced three-wide with cover throughout the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. OUR ARIANA – Hampered on jumping by MR STORM (NZ) and shifted out onto BETTER DAYS AHEAD. When pulling up following the event Jockey D Simmons dismounted OUR ARIANA as it felt it awkward in its action over the concluding stages. Jockey D. Simmons was excused by stewards from weighing in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed OUR ARIANA was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer A. Mules was advised that OUR ARIANA would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next future race start. It was also reported that OUR ARIANA had lost its near fore plate in running. SHE’S MAGANDA – Raced in restricted room passing the 600m. Shifted off the heels of GUMNUTS passing the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
