Lennon’s use of the whip in jump out number eight at the Rockhampton Jockey Club on Monday 17th October 2022. After taking evidence from Mr Lennon and viewing the available footage, Mr Lennon pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on 14 occasions, 9 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. Mr Lennon’s was fined $300 and his license to ride in races was suspended for 7 days to commence midnight the 29th October 2022 and conclude at midnight the 5th November 2022. In accessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was Mr Lennon’s second offence under the same rule within the last 14 days.GENERALJockey Adam Spinks was fined $200 under AR218(4)(b) for maintaining possession of his mobile phone in the jockey’s room throughout the day. In imposing penalty stewards were satisfied that upon inspection that Mr Spinks had not accessed his mobile phone during the race meeting. Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Maiden Handicap 1300 metresST MORITZ – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. IMBATIDO – Raced wide without cover for the majority. Hung out when rounding the 500m turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. STEALTH FLYER – Raced keen in the early and middle stages. Shifted out under pressure early in the home straight. Jockey Nathan Day advised that the gelding travelled well for the majority, however when placed under pressure, hung out and failed run on as expected and proved to be disappointing. STANDOVER MAN – Began awkwardly. WHOBETHATNOW – Began awkwardly Race 2: SMARTSTATE RENTALS OPEN Handicap 1300 metresSCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Raced keen in the early stages. SHADOW GODDESS – Slow into stride. HILVERSTON – Slow to begin. Inclined to shift out under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 3: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LORRAINE Class 6 Plate 1560 metresROCK 'N' SOL – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Slow into stride. Apprentice J. Doolan was fined $200 under AR 211(2) for returning to scale 1KG overweight. Race 4: DRONE TECH SOLUTIONS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1560 metresPLUCKERCARN – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. Tightened and checked near the 800m when MISS JEDI Shifted inwards when the saddle slipped on that runner.GRANT'S PATCH – Began awkwardly. Jockey A. Spinks was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, one more occasion than permitted. OPINIONS – Steadied from heels near the 1300m when MISS JEDI shifted in marginally. Jockey C. Lennon (the rider of MISS JEDI) was issued a reprimand for careless riding under AR131(a). Jockey B. Thompson was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her us the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, one more occasion than permitted. GETOUT OF MY NEIGH (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. MARNDARRA – Began awkwardly. MISS JEDI – Bumped on jumping. Raced keen in the early stages. Commenced to weaken from the 800m taking no further competitive part in the event. Upon returning to scale Jockey C. Lennon advised that his saddle slipped shortly after the start and then further slipped sideways near the 800m and as a result he eased his mount out the event.HIGH REWARDS – Began awkwardly contacting MISS JEDI. Race 5: J & C ELECTRICAL SERVICES BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1100 metresPATROLLING – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Over raced middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CHEVY NOVA – Slow to begin. GRACIOUS GARCON – Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: CHERYL GREEN TANNING SERVICE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metresSHAKATA – Jumped awkwardly and bumped with SEDUCTIVE SPUR.HELLFIRE BILLY – Raced wide throughout.JOAN'S JOY – Bumped on jumping with WHITTY’S DREAM. Raced greenly under pressure.TALL ORDER – Checked after the start. Trailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Connections were advised that the filly has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial.SEDUCTIVE SPUR – Bumped at the start with SHAKATA. App Emma Lang was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. MY DAD'S BETTER – Declared a late scratching @ 4.18pm on vets’ advice when found to be showing signs of stiffness in the off hind leg behind the barriers. Betting deductions of less 2 cents the win and 3 cents the place were ordered on the winner and less 3 cents for the second-place getter and less 4 cents for the third place getter. Connections were advised that MY DAD’S BETTER has been stood down from racing pending receipt of a veterinary clearance.WHITTY'S DREAM – Bumped with JOAN’S JOY at the start.
