GENERAL
Stewards questioned trainer K Smyth regarding the acceptance of MONEY MUNCHER after being scratched from Rockhampton on the 26 May 2023 with a veterinary certificate. Mr Smyth advised when he worked MONEY MUNCHER on Wednesday 24 May the gelding had pulled up slightly off and he preferred to wait a further day to allow MONEY MUNCHER to recover prior to racing. A veterinary certificate was provided to Stewards. MONEY MUNCHER was examined prior to being saddled and again prior to the start and cleared to race.
 
The following weight alterations were authorised by Stewards
Race 1: R Wiggins – TYCOON BABY - + 1kg – 56.5kg (Replaced by S Wilson)
Race 2: R Wiggins – BRIGHT TIARA - + 1kg – 56.0kg
Race 5: A Layt – JETSKI - + 1kg – 55.0kg

Race 1: DON'T FORGET MACKAY CUP SATURDAY 22ND JULY Maiden
Plate 1100 metres
 
ROYAL SONG – Due to not racing for in excess of 12 months was subject of a pre-race veterinary examination and cleared to race.Bumped with JOE MAMA (NZ) approaching the 200m.
 
JOE MAMA (NZ) – Bumped with ROYAL SONG approaching the 200m. Jockey C. Whiteley could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance in today’s event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TORQUE WITH PRIDE – Got its head down prior to the jump and refused to lift its head for a considerable amount of time. A warning was issued to trainer J. Manzelmann regarding the poor performance of the gelding.
 
FLYING CARMEN – Raced wide throughout. Jockey W. Satherley was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) in regard to fully riding his mount out to the finish line.
 
ROMAN QUEEN – The cross-over nose band was removed prior to the start after being incorrectly applied. The gear proved difficult to remove behind the barriers, leading to a significant delay in the start of the event. Fractious in the barriers. Trainer S. Quigley was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR106(1) for incorrectly fitting the cross-over nose band on ROMAN QUEEN.
 
TYCOON BABY – S. Wilson was a late rider replacement for R Wiggins whose flight was delayed.Fractious in the barriers. Jumped outwards making contact with MY DAD’S BETTER.
 
ATHENA'S SECRET – Was slow to begin and shifted ground outwards. Shifted ground passing the 150m to obtain clear racing room.
 
MY DAD'S BETTER – Impeded at the start.
 
STAZY – Raced wide through the early stages.
 
 
Race 2: SKY RACING Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
There was a delay to the start of this event due to the field being late to parade to the barriers.
 
KUSUNOKI – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Jockey M. Kennedy was reprimanded under the provisions AR132(6)(c) for using the whip on a runner when out of contention.
 
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Fractious in the barriers. Raced ungenerously placing jockey S. Wilson in difficulty over the early stages. A warning was issued to trainer J. Manzelmann regarding the racing manners of FAIRYBOWER FLYER.
 
MISS DAURIAN – Raced wide in the early stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to be showing mild signs of tying up.
 
SNUGGLE BANG YAHOO – Proved difficult to load. Slow to begin. Had to be restrained racing into the first turn when improving onto the heels of SAND AND OCEAN.
 
ANNIE'S TOP – Trainer D Johnston was late to notify that ANNIE’S TOP would be racing without the notified blinkers. Mr Johnston was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR206(2) for the late notification of a gear change.
 
KUROMI SAMA – Bound in the air upon jumping and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
LUCIA MARIA – Lay inwards throughout the run home under pressure.
 
SAND AND OCEAN – Raced in restricted room and had to be restrained when racing inside of FAIRYBOWER FLYER which was racing ungenerously. Made the bend awkwardly approaching the 600m and put in an awkward stride.
 
 
Race 3: BLUE RIVER ICE RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ELVIARE – Inconvenienced shortly after jumping.
 
NUKE – Inconvenienced shorty after jumping. Over raced when being restrained approaching the 1000m.
 
BETTER DAYS AHEAD – Bound on jumping. Lay inwards throughout the run home.
 
TRI NATIONS – Bumped on jumping.
 
WREN PLUCKED – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide through the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 4: BOOK FOR LIGHTNING DAY SATURDAY 1ST JULY Class 3
Plate 1560 metres
 
BRAZEN BRECCIA – Bumped with DEFROSTED who in turn bumped with SHE’S OUR EMPERSS on its outside when joining the course proper. Bumped with LETMELETGO approaching the 100m.
 
MONEY MUNCHER – Was examined by the veterinarian pre-race and cleared to start.Bumped by SHE’S OUR EMPRESS which was shortly after the start and forced wider on the track. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages.
 
LETMELETGO – Bumped with BRAZEN BRECCIAapproaching the 100m.
 
DEFROSTED – Shortly after the start commenced to over race and continued to over race for some distance. Improved onto heels and had to be steadied passing the 600m.
 
MIRROR ILLUSION – Over raced through the early stages. Apprentice K. Swaffer was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permitted. Stewards questioned Apprentice Swaffer in relation to the tactics adopted today when racing on the speed which is not the filly’s normal racing pattern. Ms Swaffer advised Stewards that after drawing barrier one and beginning well she landed further forward than anticipated and was content with handing over the lead shortly after the start. Ms Swaffer further stated that in hindsight she believed that she should have settled further back than she did in today’s event.
 
 
Race 5: STARCUT FLOWERS OPEN Handicap 1300 metres
 
DERULO – Had to be steadied at the 100m when CAPTAIN FOX shifted ground on its outer. Jockey A. Sewell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
BRAD – Inclined to lay inwards over the concluding stages.
 
CABALO ESCURO – Over raced in the early stages.
 
CAPTAIN FOX – Over raced through the middle stages.
 
FRATELLINO – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
JETSKI – Slow into stride. Approaching the 200m bumped with BRAD when being ridden under pressure to improve its position.
 
GRANT'S PATCH – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: BECOME A MEMBER MTC Class 6 Plate 1200 metres
 
READY FOR MAGIC – Lay inwards over the final stages and had to be straightened.
 
MISCHIEF MANAGED – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 7: TAB MACKAY AMATEUR CUP OPEN Handicap 1800 metres
 
DEEP BREATH – Over raced through the early stages and become awkwardly placed on heels passing the winning post on the first occasion. Continued to race in restricted room shortly afterwards and over raced in the middle stages when the pace had eased. Laid out under pressure near the 100m. Jockey R. Wiggins was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, being two more occasions than permitted. Mr Wiggins was also reminded of his obligations to straighten his mount sooner in similar circumstances when his mount lay outwards over the concluding stages.
 
LOVE ON SUNDAY – Shifted inwards at the start crowding BERING SEA and JAY JAY. Made the crossing awkwardly. Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. 
 
BERING SEA – Crowded on jumping and had to be steadied. Had to shift wider on the track at the 200m to obtain clear running. Jockey McIver was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, being one more time than permitted.
 
JAY JAY – Inconvenienced at the start. Bumped with FORTIFIED (NZ)on the home turn. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a laceration to the nearside cannon.
 
SOUTHERN SWING – Raced in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Raced wide early. Had to be steadied momentarily inside the 100m when placed in restricted room.
 
ORTIFIED (NZ) – Shifted wider on the track when improving onto the heels of DEEP BREATH. which was laying outwards
 
KOTABHARU – Attempted to improve wide from the 900m. Forced wider on the home turn when SIBERIAN ROUTE improved on its inside.
 
 
Race 8: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 2000 metres
 
MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – Jockey A. Sewell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, being one more time than permitted.
 
HE WILL ACHEEV – Raced keenly through the early stages. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted Apprentice I The advised it was her intention to lead in the event as HE WILL ACHEEV had raced successfully in the past when leading. She further added she was mindful of the lead she had established and had not intentionally pushed her mount during the running.
 
GETOUT OF MY NEIGH (NZ) – Jockey N. Summers was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(c) for using the whip on a runner when out of contention.
