GENERAL
Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: 1 SKY RACING QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
OOVII – Raced wide and over raced through the early stages.
 
HOLLYWOOD ANGEL – Slow to begin. Jockey R Wiggins advised that after being slow to begin his mount raced flat and settled further back than desired. Mr Wiggins further added that HOLLYWOOD ANGEL would normally race further forward and travel well during the run but failed to do so today and was disappointing despite running on reasonably well over the final 300m when placed under pressure. Jockey R Wiggins was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
ALLOUTATIME – Raced wide and keen through the early stages when being restrained.
 
MISHANI AVIATOR – Very fractious proceeding to the start from the mounting yard and a warning was issued due the pre-race behaviour. Fractious in the barriers. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
COMBAT MISSION – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR FUNCTIONS OPEN Handicap 1560 metres
 
SCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Was subject to a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to race. Was inclined to lay out in the early stages. Apprentice E Molloy stated that her mount travelled well during the early stages but when placed under pressure failed to respond and was disappointing. Trainer T Cook advised that he would conduct follow up blood test and report any abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Cardiac Arrhythmia and as such the gelding has been stood own until a satisfactory trial is completed, an ECG report tendered along with a veterinary clearance.
 
JAY JAY – Slow to begin.
 
FORTIFIED (NZ) – Impeded at the start and was slow to begin when SUCH A WHIT jumped outwards at the start. Had to shift off heels when improving its position just prior to the home straight.
 
SIBERIAN ROUTE – Lay inwards approaching the 200m and then bumped with SUCH A WHIT several times when that runner hung outwards.
 
ROCK 'N' SOL – Lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUCH A WHIT – Raced wide through the early stages. Raced keenly though the early stages. Raced greenly throughout. Hung out in the home straight and bumped with SIBERIAN ROUTE on several occasions.
 
RECONDITE (IRE) – Slow to begin. Lay inwards throughout the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: LADBROKES IT! BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1560 metres
 
MATADOR – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted Jockey A Butler stated that he was not issued with specific instructions and after being crossed by ZIPPING IRISH soon after the start he elected to progress forward with the intention of obtaining the position outside the leader. Mr Butler added that due to the tempo of the race and the manner in which his own mount failed to travel well resulted in MATADOR being trapped three wide throughout. After considering the explanation and the manner in which the race was run stewards could no be satisfied the tactics adopted were unreasonable in the circumstances.
 
SHADOW GODDESS – Slow to begin.
 
MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride. Had to shift off heels near the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
 
I AM CLEVER – Jockey C Whiteley, when questioned regarding the performance advised after racing in the usual pattern the gelding dropped the bit leaving the 600m and proved to be very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities however the off-fore plate had shifted during the running.
 
TARGET THE STARS – Over raced through the early stages.
 
HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Raced ungenerously through the early stages and hung out around the bend near the 1300m.
 
 
Race 4: SMARTSTATE RENTALS Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
KEY TO THE ZOU – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
EXOGROOVE – Raced wide through the early stages.
 
PINOCCHIO LASS – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
C'EST BELLE – Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer J Campeao for the late rider notification of T Chambers. Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide through the early stages.
 
KUSUNOKI – A warning has been placed against the record of the gelding for being uncompetitive.
 
MY DAD'S BETTER – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
 
Race 5: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE Class 3 Plate 1100 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether DENIMS was afforded a fair start. After viewing the available replays in the presence of connections and considering the comments of Jockey R Wiggins, who advised his mount’s own manners resulted in the poor start, stewards were satisfied that DENIMS had not been denied a fair start and correct weight was declared.
 
MEDIA EMPIRE – Raced in restricted room for several strides near the 250m.
 
THE KRONE – Began awkwardly and bounded at the start.
 
VILA TINTO – Jumped outwards sharply at the start. Raced wide through the early and middle stages. Had to be steadied for several strides near the 250m when ONCHAO shifted outwards. Jockey C Whiteley (ONCHAO) was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
 
ABSOLUTE CHARMER – Slow to begin.
 
DENIMS – Turned its head immediately prior to the start being affected and as a result stood flat footed and was very slow to begin. A warning was placed against the barrier manners of the gelding.
 
ONCHAO – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight before shifting outwards near the 250m.
 
DIVINE WIT – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: BARRY WILLIAMS MEMORIAL LIGHTNING OPEN Handicap1100 metres
 
BRAD – Held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight and was not fully tested to the finish.
 
CABALO ESCURO – Jumped away awkwardly resulting in jockey C Lennon becoming significantly unbalanced and almost being dislodged.
 
KASINOVA KID – Shifted in soon after the start bumping LEADRSHIP SPILL which in turn bumped with TYCOON THUNDER which then bumped COLD POWER. Raced wide through the early stages.
 
LEADERSHIP SPILL – Jumped away awkwardly and then raced in restricted room for several strides when KASINOVA KID shifted in.
 
FRATELLINO – Made the bend near the 900m awkwardly and shifted ground outwards.
 
READY FOR MAGIC – Lay outwards over the concluding stages.
 
TYCOON THUNDER – Bumped soon after the start.
 
COLD POWER – Bumped soon after the start. Had to be restrained approaching the 900m when FRATELLINO shifted outwards when making the bend awkwardly and runners to the outside had shifted inwards marginally. Improved onto heels and had to shift ground outwards near the 800m.
 
 
Race 7: MACKAY CUP SATURDAY 22ND JULY Class 6 Plate1300 metres
 
AGUSTAWYND – Raced wide throughout.
 
VALLEY OF DREAMS – Raced wide with cover throughout.
 
IN BEL'S SHADOW – Slow into stride.
 
TYCOON BABY – Slow into stride. Improved wide around the final bend.
 
 
Race 8: RACING AGAIN FRIDAY 14TH JULY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1300 metres
 
AIDENABET – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Raced greenly throughout placing rider R Wiggins in difficulty. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
BETTER DAYS AHEAD – Struck the inside barrier partition and jumped away awkwardly.
 
BOOM RANGA – Bumped on jumping. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLYING SHAMUS – Jumped away awkwardly unbalancing rider A Sewell. Briefly restrained near the 900m when APRIL LOVE shifted ground. Bumped with APRIL LOVE approaching the 100m.
 
APRIL LOVE – Commenced to over race passing the 900m and shifted off heels. Bumped with FLYING SHAMUS approaching the 100m.
 
FROM THIS MOMENT – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
ITSA CLAMITY – Shifted outwards at the 200m with AIDENABET having to be restrained briefly.
 
LAUDEYLOU – Was inclined to hang out during the run.
 
CANTOR – Began awkwardly and skied its head at the start.
 
BOLD ZIP – Jumped away awkwardly and was restrained in the early stages. Raced keenly through the middle stages and made the bend near the 600m awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight before angling wider on the track approaching the 200m. When questioned regarding the improved performance today trainer J Manzelmann advised that BOLD ZIP was ridden more according to its most suited racing pattern.
