IN EVIDENCE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
ACRES AWAY – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider passing the 300m to improve into clear running.
 
ELIE JOE – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
ALLOUTATIME – Laid out throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
COMBAT MISSION – Raced wide throughout.
 
EYES ARE LION – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
SHEZAPEARLER – Approaching the 900m was obliged to steadied when momentarily inconvenienced by ELIE JOE, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey A Layt, rider of ELIE JOE, was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a). Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight. Passing the 200m after shifting in to improve into clear running, was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of ELIE JOE which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey Layt, rider of ELIE JOE, plead guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended for a period of eight days to commence midnight 22 July 2023 to midnight 30 July 2023.
 
 
Race 2: HORIZON PROJECTS MACKAY Class 6 Plate 1100 metres
 
COURTESY BUS – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
OUR TOP SHELF – Became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 1000m.
 
PATROLLING – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. On return to scale, jockey L Tilley reported that he had concerns with the action of the gelding over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding lame near foreleg. Trainer Mr R Vale was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to accepting for a future race start.
 
COCHRANE – Raced wide throughout.
 
HALLSIDE HAMMER – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice I The plead guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m mark three more than permitted and was fined $600.
 
CHAMELEON CHOICE – Jockey R Wiggins on return to scale reported that he had concerns with the action of the gelding in the home straight. Stewards advised Trainer Mr N Walsh to report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
 
 
Race 3: WHITSUNDAY WEALTH Class 2 Handicap 1100 metres
 
ANTAGONISER – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
INNER SPIRIT – Overraced in the early stages. Passing the 700m was obliged to steady to avoid the heels of HARVESTA which shifted in to obtain cover. Apprentice Seymour, rider of HARVESTA, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
 
UNO ARTIE – Raced wide throughout.
 
HARVESTA – Raced wide throughout.
 
RUBUNKAR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHALKLEY – Raced wide throughout.
 
MICROWAVE JENNY – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after jumping away.
 
SKYMASTER – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
CHILENA – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
FLAMING ASTEROID – Raced in restricted room passing the 200m while weakening.
 
 
Race 4: BELLE OF WHITSUNDAY Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 70
Handicap 1560 metres
 
VITAE – Rider reported on return to scale that he had concerns with the action of the mare over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr D Johnson was advised that the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to accepting for a future race.
 
KOTABHARU – Approaching the 1300m had to steady when racing in restricted room to the inside of IN BEL’S SHADOW, who was carried in by GHOSTED, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice N Seymour, rider of GHOSTED, plead guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended for a period of eight days to commence midnight 22 July 2023 to midnight 30 July 2023. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
GHOSTED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer Mr W Winters was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 
IN BEL'S SHADOW – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUCHESS ADELE – Passing the 1200m became awkward in its action for a number of strides. Overraced in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
 
Race 5: MAGIC MILLIONS WHITSUNDAY GUINEAS QTIS
Three-Year-Old Handicap 1560 metres
 
GULF OF LION – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
ROZNAMLA (NZ) – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey W Satherley stated that ROZNAMLA (NZ) had travelled well in the early and middle stages but commenced to weaken rounding the home turn and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
SO YOU BATTLE – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
CAMPIONE – Steadied off heels when the pace of the race slackened passing the 1000m.
 
FOUR MILE LANE – Overraced in the middle stages. Improved onto heels approaching the 1200m and had to be steadied.
 
STEP THIS WAY – Passing the 200m was momentarily inconvenienced by GULF OF LION, which shifted in under riding. Jockey A Layt, rider of GULF OF LION, was advised to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.
 
SIAN STAR – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
 
Race 6: LADBROKES MACKAY CUP 2000 metres
 
NAMAZU – Jockey R Wiggins was suspended for seven days under the provisions of AR132(5) for using his whip on 17 occasions in totality to commence midnight 29 July 2023 to midnight 5 July 2023.
 
ARCTIC WOLF – Commenced to overrace in the early stages, shifted out and raced wide from the 1600m.
 
QUALITY ASSET – Became awkwardly placed on heels passing the 1600m and shifted wider, resulting in QUALITY ASSET racing wide without cover for the remainder of the event.
 
BONDURANT – Jockey L Tilley reported that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages of the event but weakened noticeably on entering the home straight.
 
SAVVY LEGEND (NZ) – Overraced in the early and middles stages of the event, and passing the 1600m was carried wider on the track. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer Mr J Manzelmann advised that the gelding had overraced at its start at Ipswich on 17 June and was sent for a short freshen up before starting at Hughenden over a shorter distance. He added that the gelding was racing over a favourable distance today, had pleased in its work leading into today’s event and he expected a strong showing.
 
RECONDITE (IRE) – Hung in when placed under pressure in the straight placing its rider at a disadvantage when riding out. Trainer Mr J Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding.
 
 
Race 7: CEQ GROUP BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 2000 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to be satisfied that the winner, READY BY DESIGN, carried the correct weight on scale. After doing so, stewards gave correct weight on the judge’s placings.
 
DEEL WITH ME – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, jockey A Butler stated that his mount failed to travel at any stage of the event and commenced to weaken passing the 1000m. Trainers representative Mr T Cook stated that DEEL WITH ME resented racing within runners and preferred tracks with more give. He added that it was the stables intention to continue on with the preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages.
 
 
Race 8: SOUTHERN SHEET & COIL Class 3 Plate 1300 metres
 
CASTILE – Slow into stride. Passing the 200m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MOENAVE which shifted in while improving. Jockey J Murphy, rider of MOENAVE, was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a).
 
DELUXE LEGEND – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 300m.
 
SPELLCATCHER – Raced greenly in the straight. Rider reported that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Co-Trainer Mr T Button was advised that a veterinary clearance of fitness would be required prior to accepting for a future race start.
 
TIOGA PASS – Steadied off heels passing the 1000m.
 
TYCOON BABY – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Attempted to shift in to improve passing the 300m but was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied off the heels of PRETTY SLICK. Shortly thereafter was obliged to shift out across the heels of PRETTY SLICK to improve into a narrow run approaching the 150m.
 
PRETTY SLICK – Rider reported that he had concerns with the action of the filly over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
