GENERAL

As Apprentice S Nielson was injured, she was replaced by Apprentice M Apel in Race 7 on LIFETIME QUEST as per the steward’s race day summary.

The following overweights have been approved by the stewards:

Due to Jockey J Murphy being dually engaged in Race 2 on DIVINE KAMEHALANI and the emergency runner ROMAN QUEEN, Stewards were able to establish that his first commitment was made to ROMAN QUEEN, therefore Jockey W Satherley was approved as the late rider for DIVINE KAMEHALANI as per the steward’s race day summary.


Race 1: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1200 Metres)

SUNNYCOAST – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

CRAICARO – Hampered on jumping by EYES ARE LION which shifted in and MISHANI VALOUR which shifted out.

DIRT CHEAP – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey M Butler pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) for using his 17 times in total. Jockey M Butler’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 2nd September 2023 to midnight 13th September 2023 which is at the conclusion of a suspension incurred on Sunday 20 August 2023.

YELLOWSTONE BETH – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

SHEZAPEARLER – Jumped away awkwardly. Upon returning to scale, Jockey W Satherley stated that his mount raced ungenerously throughout the event.

MISHANI AVIATOR – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Raced wide throughout.

EYES ARE LION – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Shifted out on jumping, bumping CRAICARO.

MISHANI VALOUR – Shifted out on jumping, bumping CRAICARO.


Race 2: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE QTIS Maiden Handicap (1200 Metres)

POTESTAS – Raced wide in the early stages. Carried inwards by CHUCKA DUMMY and was placed in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 200m. Jockey A Sewell was reminded of his obligations to keep his mounts straight when under pressure. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to have lacerations to its off-hind leg. Co-Trainer C Dore was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next future race start.

MAMA'S MAN – Raced wide in the early stages.

PEPPERDINE – Slow to begin. Bumped with CHUCKA DUMMY and was held up when entering the home straight before shifting in to obtain clear racing room.

CHUCKA DUMMY – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. Bumped with PEPPERDINE when entering the home straight. Hung in when placed under pressure, carrying POTESTAS inwards near the 200m.

BEAUTIFUL BELLE – Raced wide throughout. Tailed off from the remainder of the field near the 550m taking no further competitive part in the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to be lame in the near-hind leg. Trainer D Veivers was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next future race start.

DIVINE KAMEHALANI – Slow to begin.

HUGHIE VUITTON – Slow to begin. Laid out when placed under pressure passing the 300m.

STAVANGER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after being kicked by another runner which revealed the mare to be lame in the off-foreleg and was declared a late scratching at 1:17pm on vet’s advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all bets placed on STAVANGER be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to successful wagers:

31 cents in the dollar for the win – PEPPERDINE
15 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner – PEPPERDINE
31 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – HE’S THE ONE
26 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – CHUCKA DUMMY

Trainer C Taylor was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next future race start.

ROMAN QUEEN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 1:19pm after becoming fractious in the barriers and had struck the upper partition of the barriers with its head. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all bets placed on ROMAN QUEEN be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the win – PEPPERDINE
1 cent in the dollar for the place of the winner – PEPPERDINE
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – HE’S THE ONE
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – CHUCKA DUMMY.

Trainer P Fleming was advised that the mare would be required to trial for its barrier manners to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next future race start.

FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Hung out rounding the home turn. Hung out noticeably in the early stages of the home straight.


Race 3: SMARTSTATE RENTALS Class 6 Plate (1200 Metres)

MILO MAN – When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey A Butler stated that after obtaining the lead, he had received pressure in the middle stages and had elected to take a sit with the gelding then travelling well until entering the home straight. Jockey Butler further stated that when his mount was placed under pressure, MILO MAN was inclined to hang out and proved to be very disappointing over the final stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.

STAR BANNER – Tired noticeably in the home straight. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer G Smith was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for a poor performance.

ZOUY'S COMET – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Jumped away awkwardly and dipped shortly after the start. Held up for clear racing room until passing the 200m. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

COOLMEANS (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.

SABOR – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

UNASSAILABLE – Jumped away awkwardly.

INVINCIBLE JET – Wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in rounding the home turn. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

HONKYTONK DIVA – Raced wide throughout.

OLD SCHOOL – Slow into stride.


Race 4: HAPPY BIRTHDAY GINGER MANZELMANN BM55 Handicap (1300 Metres)

MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Overraced in the early stages.

PRIVATE CHEETAH – Laid in when placed under pressure approaching the 200m.

LADY MASQUERADE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

FLYING CARMEN – Slow to begin.

ELVIARE – Jumped away awkwardly. Upon returning to scale, Jockey N Day advised that his mount pulled too hard in the early stages which proved detrimental to its performance. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.

TELMESOMETHIN'GIRL – Leaving the 200m, raced in restricted room and had to shift out to obtain clear racing room.

MISHANI JEWEL – Slow into stride.


Race 5: MACKAY CUTTERS - CHANGE THE GAME BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1300 Metres)

KEFALONIA – Upon returning to scale, Jockey A Butler reported that his mount travelled well in the early stages, however had failed to travel over the concluding stages and proved disappointing. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

JELLISHOT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. Jockey W Satherley was fined $400 under the provisions of AR132(5) for using his whip 16 times in total.

CALL ME MARILYN – Upon returning to scale, Jockey J Stanley reported that his mount hung out under pressure passing the 300m.

STAR PRINCE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with the outside barrier partition. Leaving the 200m, was disappointed for a run between JELLISHOT and KEFALONIA.

MICROWAVE JENNY – Bumped with SCHATZI on jumping. Bumped with CHATLILY, which shifted out near the 200m.

BOLD ZIP – Slow to begin. Upon returning to scale, Jockey S Sheargold reported that his saddle had shifted slightly placing him in some difficulty in the home straight.

MILKY ROCKET – Jumped away awkwardly and had shifted out abruptly.

SCHATZI – Bumped with MICROWAVE JENNY on jumping.

CHATILLY – Approaching the 200m, shifted out and bumped MICROWAVE JENNY.

TARGET THE STARS – Raced wide throughout.


Race 6: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES Class 3 Handicap 1100 metres

Stewards inquired into the circumstances where TRACK TALES and CHALKLEY bumped racing into the first turn and where DENIMS which was racing further back to the inside had clipped the heels of PEGGIE BOOM and blundered. After taking evidence from Apprentice M Apel (TRACK TALES), Apprentice E Molloy (CHALKLEY), Apprentice B Johnson (PEGGIE BOOM) and Apprentice N Olzard (DENIMS), it was established that racing into the first turn, CHALKLEY had shifted inwards resulting in TRACK TALES racing in tight confines when improving and the two runners bumping with CHALKLEY becoming unbalanced. PEGGIE BOOM which was trailing was checked, which resulted in DENIMS racing up onto heels of PEGGIE BOOM and blundering. In assessing the evidence in its entirety, stewards could not attribute the incident to any one horse or rider, therefore took the matter no further.

NIC ME SOME – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with LADY RAIN. Held up near the 250m before shifting in to obtain clear racing room.

DENIMS – Bumped with TRACK TALE on jumping.

LADY RAIN – Bumped with NIC ME SOME on jumping.

CHALKLEY – Upon returning to scale, Apprentice E Molloy reported that her mount was inclined to hang in rounding the turns.

TRACK TALE – Shifted ground outwards on occasions when placed under pressure in the home straight. Stewards noted that Apprentice M Apel had immediately stopped riding and corrected her mount on the first occasion and then again on the second occasion when her mount shifted out abruptly when struck on three occasions and had immediately ceased riding to take corrective measures. Stewards showed Apprentice M Apel the replays in the presence of Master R Vale for educational purposes.

ALLANON – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.


Race 7: RACING AGAIN TUES 5TH SEPTEMBER BM60 Handicap1560 metres

LIFETIME QUEST – Shifted out abruptly approaching the 200m when struck with the whip resulting in WHISKEY ROW being carried wider.

SRINI – Overraced in the early stages. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.

DEMURRAL – Slow to begin. It was noted that the gelding had its tongue over the bit upon return to scale.

STRUAN LAD – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

DUCHESS ADELE – Held up for clear racing room for a distance over the final 100m.

ANSELMO – Raced wide throughout.

WHISKEY ROW – Placed in restricted room approaching the 1200m when commencing to pull fiercely and had to steady to avoid heels and elected to shift out near the 1000m and race wide for the remainder of the event.

STRUAN LAD – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

DUCHESS ADELE – Held up for clear racing room for a distance over the final 100m.

ANSELMO – Raced wide throughout.

WHISKEY ROW – Placed in restricted room approaching the 1200m when commencing to pull fiercely and had to steady to avoid heels and elected to shift out near the 1000m and race wide for the remainder of the event.
