STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB SATURDAY 16 DECEMBER 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – TRUEPENETROMETER – 4.76 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. HudsonStewards – E. Suli, G. Sewell and S Sheargold were unable to attend today’s meeting due to acceptable personal circumstances, rider replacements were approved as per the Stewards Summary. Race 1: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BM60 HCP – 1560M The start of the race was delayed approximately 2 minutes to allow the barrier blanket to be applied to KNOWITALL JACK (NZ). ROCK 'N' SOL – In light of today’s poor performance, Trainer T. Cook advised stewards that ROCK ‘N’ SOL would now be sent for a spell. LIFETIME QUEST – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. DEVIL KICK – Bumped on jumping by I’M BLUEY which shifted out. KNOWITALL JACK (NZ) – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Had to shift out to avoid the heels of LIFETIME QUEST to obtain clear racing room near the 400m. Shifted in slightly, bumping with I’M BLUEY which had also shifted out near the 200m. MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Commenced to hang out from the 1400m to the 1050m. I'M BLUEY – Shifted out on jumping, bumping DEVIL KICK. Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure, bumping KNOWITALL JACK (NZ) which had also shifted in slightly near the 200m. NINE CARATS – Bounded on jumping. Had difficulty obtain clear racing room from the 300m to the 100m. Race 2: STARCUT FLOWERS MDN HCP – 1300M HANDICAP READY TO GROOVE – Bumped shortly after the start by RUBY SCARLET which was carried out by JUST LIKE ROSIE which had shifted in abruptly. JUST LIKE ROSIE – In light of the poor performance, Trainer T. Cook advised stewards that JUST LIKE ROSIE would now be sent for a spell. Trainer T. Cook further advised that he’d entertain the possibility of gear change in the future. ROY'S ROAD – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. RUBY SCARLET – Hampered on jumping by JUST LIKE ROSIE which shifted in abruptly and blundered shortly after before being carried in and bumping with READY TGROOVE. SPICCATO – Hung out throughout the event. Trainer K. Smyth was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s record. CHARGRILL – Bumped on jumping by CHRISTMAS TIME which shifted in. WILD AFFAIR – Slow to begin. CHRISTMAS TIME – Shifted in on jumping, bumping CHARGRILL. ROMAN QUEEN – Was declared a late scratching at 8:00am due to no other suitable rider available who could make 54kg. PLAYFUL KISS – Had to steady to avoid the heels of LORD VADER which had shifted in when insufficiently clear near the 900m. Apprentice G. Semmens was reminded of her obligations to ensure her mounts of clear when shifting ground in future. Race 3: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES QTIS 3YO HCP – 1300M SHAMEDY – Bumped with SHEZAPEARLER shortly after the start. MISHANI AVIATOR – Raced wide until obtaining a lead position near the 500m. HARCH ROAD – Commenced to overrace when racing in restricted and had to be steadied from heels for a number of strides near the 1150m. HE'S THE ONE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Jockey A. Layt was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. KARAKAROO – Jumped away awkwardly, shifting in and bumping EYES ARE LION. ORCA – Raced wide throughout. SHEZAPEARLER – Bumped with SHAMEDY shortly after the start. When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey J. Murphy advised stewards that SHEZAPEARLER travelled okay in the early stages of the event, however SHEZAPEARLER failed to respond to his riding urges and was disappointed in the performance. Jockey Murphy further stated that his mount didn’t feel comfortable over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed mild soreness in the near-side fetlock. Trainer N Walsh advised stewards that he would be getting bloods analysed for SHEZAPEARLER and would advise stewards of the outcome of those results and his immediate racing plans for SHEZAPEARLER. EYES ARE LION – Slow to begin and was crowded by KARAKAROO which shifted in shortly after the start. Race 4: HORIZON PROJECTS BM55 HCP – 1200M The start of the race was delayed as LUCIA MARIA underwent a pre-race veterinary examination by request of its rider. A subsequent pre-race veterinary revealed no abnormalities and was cleared to start. NIC ME SOME – After taking initial evidence from jockey D Evans, an inquiry was opened and adjourned to a date to be fixed in relation to the performance of NIC ME SOME. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BRINGYATICKET – Had to steady when awkwardly placed onto the heels of LUCIA MARIA near the 800m. LUCIA MARIA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing on the 14th December and was cleared to start. Trainer T Simmons advised stewards that LUCIA MARIA didn’t handle the quick back up from Bowen on the 14th December and as a result, would now look to give LUCIA MARIA a freshen up. CHATILLY – Raced wide before obtaining a lead position near the 500m. KEY TO THE ZOU – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout. Race 5: MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE MTC RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 HCP – 1050M WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. PANKHURST (NZ) – Slow to begin. RUBUNKAR – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. ACT OF ROYALTY – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. MISS HELMUT – Raced wide in the early stages. Race 6: RACING AGAIN FRIDAY 22ND DECEMBER OPEN HCP – 1050M FANAAR (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. MISTER LARRABEE – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. CAPTAIN FOX – Raced wide before obtaining a position outside the lead near the 800m. COURTESY BUS – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. GOLDEN ATHENA – Slow to begin. Had to shift in to avoid the heels of SIR ROCKET near the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
