GENERAL
Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Due to app G Semmens being unable to make the weight on LUCIA MARIA in race 7, and no other apprentice being available, Dale Evans was the approved replacement rider.
 
The start of Race 1 was delayed initially due to the runners arriving at the barriers late. There was a further delay after rider J Murphy was injured in the barriers prior to start. Jackson Murphy was examined by QAS and declared unfit to take on his remaining rides. J Murphy was advised a medical certificate will be required prior to racing again.
 
Rider replacements for J Murphy were as follows:

All races were subsequently put back by a race time slot with the last race being run at 6:15pm. Following consultation with jockeys, who had flight commitments, the last race was further rescheduled for 6:03pm to avoid multiple runners being scratched.
 
 
Race 1: LADBROKE IT! BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1560M
 
 
MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) - A post-race veterinary report revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer K Smyth was advised that the gelding would require a satisfactory ECG report of more than 60 seconds at rest and a satisfactory cardiac auscultation to be performed within 15 minutes of completing a 1000m gallop in the presence of stewards prior to racing again.
 
BRAZEN BRECCIA - Shifted in at start hampering CHINTILLY.
 
WINTILLY- Hampered at start.
 
HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Delayed the start when the near fore shoe was cast enroute to the barriers. The off fore shoe was removed and the gelding raced bare foot in front. Slow to begin. At the trainers request a post-race veterinary examination revealed minor soreness in the off foreleg, however no stand down was required.
 
FLYING CARMEN - Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:04pm when the mare was found to be sore in poll area. Trainer R Binder was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
Prior to correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on FLYING CARMEN be refunded in full and all bets on the winner be paid less 0c win and 9c place and all bets 2nd place be paid less 4c on the dollar value of the ticket.
 
 
 
Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER OF THE MTC BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1560M
 
FRESH PRINCE - Hung in under pressure rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider
 
AWE - J Stanley reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action and may not have appreciated the firm going. Trainer M Geaney concurred with the thoughts of the rider as the gelding in the past has performed better on tracks rated with more cushion. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer M Geaney advised that he would report anything of concern in the subsequent days.
 
PRIVATE CHEETAH - Rounding the home turn was buffeted and checked by AIDENABET.
 
DEVIL KICK - Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight.
 
AIDENABET - Rounding the home turn improved into a tight run between PRIVATE CHEETAH and FRESH PRINCE and was hampered briefly when FRESH PRINCE hung in under pressure. Soon after was checked off the heels of JOE’S GIGGLE and consequently, PRIVATE CHEETAH which was racing to the inside was buffeted and checked. Hung in under pressure.
 
Race 3: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR FUNCTIONS OPEN HANDICAP  1100M
 
WREN'S DAY (USA) - Slow to begin. Jockey A Butler reported that the gelding felt awkward in its action and proved disappointing. Trainer T Cook advised that WRENS DAY in recent times has not been performing up to expectations and would advise connections to assess the racing future of the gelding. An intended post-race veterinary examination was unable to be conducted prior to the horse leaving the course due the vet being occupied with swabbing duties.
 
BLUE KENTUCKY MOON - Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
FANAAR (NZ) - Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
MOHAHNA - Slow to begin. An intended post-race veterinary examination was unable to be conducted prior to the horse leaving the course due the vet being occupied with swabbing duties. Trainer T Simmons was advised a warning would be placed on the mares uncompetitive racing manner.
 
Race 4: SMARTSTATE RENTALS MAIDEN PLATE 1200M

CHARGRILL - Laid in under pressure in the home straight and close to the finish shifted outwards when being corrected and bumped with LET’S ROLL.
 
I SAY BOOM - Raced wide throughout.
 
LET'S ROLL - Raced wide throughout. Bumped close to the finish. Jockey T Chambers was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
CHUCKA TANTY - Slow to begin, trailed the field throughout. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s performance. The trainer advised that the mare would now likely be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
DIVINE KAMEHALANI - Lost off fore plate in running. Jockey R Wiggins reported, after beginning well from the inside barrier the mare did not have to endure any work and therefore elected to maintain the lead as he was of the view that runners on his outside were not travelling as well as his own mount. The rider further reported that once placed under pressure rounding the home turn his mount battled moderately until leaving the 200m mark.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
JEANNE DE LUZ - When questioned J Stanley reported that his mount, after enduring work in the early stages failed to run on at the finish and given it was the fillies first race start he was not overly disappointed by the performance and was of the opinion that JEANNE DE LUZ would derive benefit from the race experience.
 
Race 5: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1300M
 
ALL POWERED UP - Raced wide throughout.
 
SERGEANT'S PRIDE - Slow to begin.
 
BRAVE INFORMER - Held for a clear run in the early part of the home straight.
 
EYES ARE LION - Hung in during the early stages of the home straight.
 
THE REAL DIVA - Over-raced in early and middle stages.
 
WILD AFFAIR - Slow into stride.
 
Race 6: LADBROKES RACING CLUB CLASS 6 HANDICAP         1300M
 
OCEAN EMPEROR – Pulled hard during the early stages due to the moderate tempo.
 
DEEL WITH ME – Slow to begin.
 
PANKHURST (NZ) - Shortly after the start shifted in and contacted the rail of its own accord and became unbalanced for a number of strides which resulted in apprentice B Johnson becoming unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KEFALONIA – Trainer M Cochrane was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare W Satherley as the jockey prior to rider declaration time.
 
Race 7: HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE MTC CLASS 3 PLATE   1300M
 
FLUTTERING – Slow to begin.
 
HEZAGEM – Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure.
 
SCHATZI – Jockey R Wiggins reported that the mare felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
TOM ROCKS – Raced wide throughout.
 
LUCIA MARIA - Jockey D Evans (no apprentice available) was the approved late replacement for apprentice G Semmens who was unable to make the weight. Under AR190(3) Ms Semmens was issued a reprimand for failing to make the weight on the basis of her guilty plea and clear record. Approaching the 900m was restrained to avoid heels when pace eased.

Race 8: RACING AGAIN TUESDAY 13TH APRIL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP   1050M
 
FLAMING HOMER – Raced wide throughout.
 
ICE SKATER – Jumped inward at the start bumping DONMORE GIRL which in turned bumped CHALKLEY. Briefly inconvenienced near the 200m when DONMORE GIRL shifted out.
 
CHATILLY – Bumped at start by QUEENSLANDER.
 
DONMORE GIRL – Hung out noticeably under pressure resulting in ICE SKATER and CHALKLEY being inconvenienced near the 200m. Apprentice B Johnson advised that approaching the 200m she attempted to switch the whip to her left hand in an effort to rectify DONMORE GIRL shifting outwards, however was unable to do so due to the filly immediately shifting ground abruptly. As this was verified on the available replays no further action was taken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer C Taylor advised that he intended to recommend to connections to spell the filly as her three most recent starts have been disappointing.

QUEENSLANDER – Jumped inwards at the start bumping CHANTILLY.
