STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB MONDAY 11 MARCH 2024 WEATHER – OVERCASTTRACK RATING – SOFT 7 (R1 & 2) & SOFT 6 (R3-8) RAIL – TRUEPENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. HudsonStewards – E. Suli & H. GillettClerk of Scales - S. Stehbens SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT ROCKHAMPTON 8/3/24 RACE 7 – BM65 HCP – 1050M – FAY FAYE Trainer K. Smyth reported to stewards that upon return to the stable he had noticed a significant laceration to the nearside hock and treated accordingly, he added that it is his intention to continue the prep and will continue to observe FAY FAYE for any complications in healing and report back to stewards if anything becomes apparent. SPRINGSURE 9/3/24 RACE 2 – MDN PLATE – 900M – MORE THAN A HERO Apprentice Brooke Johnson was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. RACE 4 – BM50 HCP – 1400M – AZURE DE LAGO Apprentice B. Johnson was questioned in relation to her actions over the concluding stages of the event and in particular, her vigour shown. Apprentice Johnson stated that her mount was stuck in kickback which made it hard for her to see and difficult to ride out at that point of the race. Stewards noted the explanation. GENERAL Stewards were advised that apprentice Ms. S. Nielson was involved in a fall during trackwork and was unable to fulfil her engagement. Ms. Nielson was advised that she would require a medical clearance and COG test prior to riding again. As A Butler was stood down from his engagements prior to the running of the second race at Barcaldine on 9/3/24 due to dehydration, he was advised to obtain a medical prior to this meeting. As he was unable to secure a doctor’s appointment in the limited amount of time, Stewards permitted A. Butler to be examined by the on course medical officials at Mackay. After taking advice from the medical officials, Stewards replaced A. Butler on FRESH PRINCE and permitted him to fulfill his remaining engagements. As apprentice Ms. N. Seymour was dual booked on an emergency as well as a runner who had gained a start, she was replaced on MY LITTLE VIKING by A. Layt. Stewards permitted the following over weights; R1 – C. Bayliss +1kgR1 – G. Semmens +1kgR5 – A. Layt +0.5kgR5 – C. Bayliss +1kgR5 – C. Whiteley +1kgR7 – C. Whiteley +0.5kg Race 1: SKY RACING BM65 HCP - 1800M MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – When questioned regarding the poor performance apprentice Ms N. Olzard reported that the gelding travelled well during the early and middle stages however when asked for an effort it failed to respond, she also stated that in her opinion MONTAMAYIZ (GB) would derive benefit from todays run after being second up from a spell and bearing in mind the rise in distance her mount was attempting. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. LEICA BITA FUN – Entering the first turn was carried wider when CALDANTE made the bend awkwardly while laying outwards. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight. Jockey C. Whiteley reported that his saddle shifted shortly after entering the home straight. VANA STAR – Jumped outwards at the start impeding MOHANA. LENNY ROCKET – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. CALDANTE – Approaching the first turn puts in an awkward stride and laid outwards and became awkwardly placed on the heels of VANA STAR and had to momentarily restrained on heels. Trainer T Rowe subsequently contacted stewards to inform them that CALDANTE had pulled up lame in its off fore upon when returning to the stables. Trainer T Rowe was advised that CALDANTE would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next start. FLYING ARION – Slow to begin. MOHAHNA – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Impeded by VANA STAR shortly after the start. Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER MTC MDN HCP - 1100M BARRY'S GALAH – Race wide in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight. SMOKIN' RUBI – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m was placed in restricted when ONLY ONE LOOK laid out and as a result was bumped heavily and taken wider. DIVINE SIENNA – Jockey C. Whiteley pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(5) for his use of the whip 18 times in totality, 4 more than permitted. He was subsequently suspended for 7 days from midnight 12th March 2024 until midnight 19th March 2024. SALEM – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding jockey W. Satherley stated that he was not overly disappointed in the performance of SALEM in today’s event as the gelding has only had one trial after returning from a spell and added that SALEM would derive benefit from the run. Trainer C Russell agreed with jockey W. Satherley and stated that the stable were planning on having another trial before having its first up run but as they were rescheduled, he had to alter the training program. Trainer Russell added that he would be continuing with the preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. NAHEIGHTKAY – Approaching the 600m had to be restrained from heels after overacing when the paced slackened. EYES ARE LION – Approaching the 900m bumped heavily and taken wider. Raced wide throughout. GOGGLEBOX – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in throughout the event placing its jockey at a disadvantage. Jockey T Chambers stated that GOGGLEBOX may have resented racing in restricted room with other runners and suggested that the blinkers be removed from the mare. KAISA – Slow to begin by a considerable length. Restrained from heels on multiple occasions when overacing during the middle stages. Trainer Mrs. K. Hall was reprimanded under AR106(1) for presenting KAISA to the mounting yard without blinkers. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of trainer Hall’s record with this being her first offence under this rule as well as her guilty plea. ONLY ONE LOOK – Approaching the 900m when racing in restricted room laid out and bumped with the hind quarters of SMOKIN’ RUBI and became momentarily unbalanced. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FRESH START – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. SNUGGLE BANG YAHOO – Raced wide throughout. Following the running of this race, Stewards upgraded the track to a Soft (6). Race 3: LADBROKE IT! C6 PLT - 1560M BOLD PEDRO – Jumped outwards at the start. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight. DEEL WITH ME – Inclined to lay out around the home turn. Subsequently after the event, Trainer T. Cook reported to stewards that DEEL WITH ME had suffered a bilateral nosebleed and was subsequently advised of the provisions of AR79(4). Trainer T Cook advised stewards that DEEL WITH ME would now be leaving his stable. FRESH PRINCE – Jockey S. Sheargold reported that his saddle slipped at approximately the 1000m. NIGHT GUY – Slow into stride. SHADOW PROJECT – Raced wide in the early stages. SOFTEN IT UP – Raced keen in the middle stages. Race 4: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR FUNCTIONS C1 PLT - 1560M Trainer Mrs N. Nelson was questioned in relation to SHADOW ECLIPSE having arrived on course outside the prescribed times. Trainer Mrs N. Nelson advised stewards that in transit to the course she had some difficulties when the float partition broke requiring her to pull over and fix the issue and was unable to contact stewards due to poor service as well as not having a contact number for any steward officiating at Mackay. Stewards inspected the float to confirm that damage had been sustained. After considering the matter, stewards, whilst noting the explanation, reminded Mrs N. Nelson that in future circumstances to contact a steward from QRIC at the earliest possible time if there is any possibility that they may be delayed. Stewards also advised Mrs N. Nelson of the practices to adhere to if she has no number of an officiating steward. Stewards subsequently ordered that a sample for analysis be taken from SHADOW ECLIPSE. BATTLE SOUND (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages. BULLOCK ISLAND – Pulled hard in the middle stages. DENSITY – Jumped inwards at the start and slow to begin. EDGEOFDREAMS – Bumped shortly after the start by MARSHY. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. I SAY BOOM – Apprentice Ms N. Olzard reported that her saddle slipped shortly after the start. Bumped with HARCH ROAD near the 200m. Apprentice Ms N. Olzard was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. SEISME – Jockey R. Wiggins reported that the gelding was very disappointing in todays run however it was SIESME’s first start over this distance and in his opinion, would be better suited to a drop back in distance. When questioned regarding the performance trainer R. Vale concurred with the jockey’s statement and also stated it is now his intention to send bloods away for testing and will report back to stewards on how the gelding pulls up and any findings of blood tests. SHADOW ECLIPSE – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Laid in over the concluding stages. HARCH ROAD – Raced keen in the middle stages. Bumped with I SAY BOOM near the 200m. MARSHY – Bumped shortly after the start by EDGEOFDREAMS. ALONTRO – Raced keen in the early stages. LET'S ROLL – Began awkwardly. Raced keen in the early stages. Raced wide in the middle stages. Laid inwards rounding the home turn. Race 5: LADBROKES RACING CLUB OPEN HCP - 1300M Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards’ viewed the available replays to determine if CABELO ESCURO was advantaged or disadvantaged due to its gate opening fractionally earlier than the remainder of the field. After considering the matter stewards determined that CABALO ESCURO had not gained an unfair advantage, nor had the gelding been disadvantaged by the gates opening marginally earlier. Subsequently stewards declared correct weight. BRAD – Approaching the 100m had to be momentarily restrained and bumped several times when placed in restricted room by CABLO ESCURO which shifted in under hard riding when insufficiently clear. Apprentice Ms N. Seymour (CABALO ESCURO) was subsequently reprimanded under AR131(a). CABALO ESCURO – Slow to begin. Bumped on the hindquarters of BRAD nearing the 100m when shifting in. BOLD AND LUCY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FANAAR (NZ) – Jumped awkwardly and raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Race 6: BOOK FOR AMATEURS SATURDAY 11 MAY BM55 HCP - 1300M COLD POWER – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. LIFETIME QUEST – Near the 1000m heavily contacted by ORCA. Raced wide throughout. KNOWITALL JACK (NZ) – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Jockey R. Wiggins reported that he sustained an injury to his elbow and was subsequently examined by QAS. Jockey R. Wiggins was stood down from the remainder of his riding engagements. Mr Wiggins was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to riding again. MICROWAVE JENNY – Tailed off from the field from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. In the circumstances, stewards’ ordered that a veterinary certificate of fitness including the results of bloods be tendered prior to MICROWAVE JENNY starting again. Stewards will then reassess the immediate racing future of MICROWAVE JENNY pending those results. HE'S THE ONE – Began awkwardly. Raced keen in the early stages. EL OF A SENORITA – Lost a near hind shoe which became entangled in the tail of EL OF A SENORITA. ORCA – Near the 1000m made heavy contact with LIFETIME QUEST. Raced wide throughout. ADMIRAL'S DAUGHTER (NZ) – Slow to begin. Race 7: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HCP - 1050M SCHATZI – Raced wide in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination requested by the rider revealed no significant abnormalities. DIAMOND MONEY – Jumped outwards at the start. PARA PARK CHANCE – Jockey R. Wiggins was replaced by jockey C. Bayliss due to being stood down by QAS. Raced wide throughout. CHATILLY – Laid out rounding the home turn. CHILL OUT MISS – Raced wide throughout. SENSATIONABULL – Jumped outwards at the start. ACT OF ROYALTY – Jumped in the air upon jumping. LOVE MY LOUIS – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Over-raced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained from heels on multiple occasions. COMBAT MISSION – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Race 8:RACING AGAIN TUESDAY 19TH MARCH RATINGS BAND 0-55 HCP - 1050M VOLARCHI – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. BICEPS – Jockey R. Wiggins was replaced by jockey W. Satherley due to being stood down by QAS. Slow into stride. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. ARROGANT HEART – Raced keenly in the early stages. ICE SKATER – Began very awkwardly contacting the outside barrier partition and was considerable slow to begin as a result. Held up for clear running until the 200m. BIG ROCKET – Raced wide throughout. SHESABOMB – Jumped outwards at the start.
