QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB MONDAY 27th MAY 2024 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – GOOD (4)RAIL – +2m ENTIRE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. Hudson Stewards – E. Suli, H. Gillett & S. Stehbens GENERALAs apprentice Z Sprie and apprentice I Teh were not riding at the meeting due to illness, they were replaced as per the race day summary. Apprentice Sprie was advised that he would require a medical certificate prior to riding again. Stewards permitted apprentice M Apel to not claim her full allowance in race 1 and 5 as there were no other apprentices available which were able to claim to a lower weight. Apprentice Apel was subsequently reprimanded under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance. Stewards permitted the following overweights:Race 1 – J Stanley +0.5kgRace 3 – R Wiggins +0.5kgRace 5 – T Chambers +1.0kg Race 1: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 2000 M FORTIFIED (NZ) – Slow to begin. Near the 1900m had to be steadied for a number of strides when placed in restricted room between ROZNAMLA (NZ) and FLAMENCO ROSE which was taken in marginally by MARSHY. ROZNAMLA (NZ) – Attempted to jump the crossing near the 1600m after being placed in restricted room by MARSHY which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. When questioned into the performance of the gelding jockey R Wiggins stated that ROZNAMLA failed to handle the further distance in todays event and would be better suited to races over a shorter distance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to find any apparent abnormalities. FLAMENCO ROSE – Jumped away awkwardly. MARSHY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards approaching the 1600m momentarily tightening ROZNAMLA. MISHANI PATRIOT – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: LADBROKES COMMUNITIES QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M MISHANI BURN – Slow to begin. MISHANI I AM – Near the 950m over raced onto the heels of OFFANGO and shifted out. OBLIGATED – Slow to begin. OFFANGO – Near the 950m over raced and had to be restrained. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. LOOMING LEGEND – Raced wide in the early stages. Race 3:LADBROKE IT! QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M OUR BENEFIT – Trainer T Button was advised that OUR BENEFIT would be required to remain on course so more samples could be obtained after an extended period of time. TWENTY THREE WALL – Fractious prior to the start. Began awkwardly and slow to muster early speed. WANDERLEI – Inclined to lay outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. SLASHER – Jumped inwards at the start bumping OUR BERLINETTA. SIR ZABEERRO – Shortly after the start commenced to over race when being restrained to a position closer to the rail. ZABOOG – Raced wide in the early stages. OUR BERLINETTA – Bumped on jumping by SLASHER. SERGEANT'S PRIDE – Jumped outwards at the start making contact with the outside barrier partition. Race 4: BOOK FOR SPORTSMAN LUNCHEON FRIDAY 9TH AUGUST CLASS 6 PLATE 1100 M DR NEIGH – Trainer T. Cook reported that he was not overly disappointed in the run and was of the belief that the tempo of today’s event did not suit the gelding, he further added that it is his intention to continue the preparation. LETMELETGO – Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the performance jockey A Butler stated that it was his intention to obtain a position outside the leader but after beginning only fairly he had to work hard early and was unable to find a position outside the lead and elected to restrain to try and find a position two wide but at the same time OUTBACK ACTION had improved to his inside and subsequently was unable to find a position two wide. Jockey Butler further stated although he raced wide throughout, he was satisfied in the way LETMELETGO had finished off the race and added LETMELETGO would derive benefit from the run. OUTBACK ACTION – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m. BOLD HUNTER – Raced wide throughout. FLYING SHAMUS – Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 200m. Race 5: BOOK FOR MACKAY CUP SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1560 M FINSCEAL – Stood flat footed at the start (3L). AWE – Trainer M Geaney reported that upon returning to the stable, AWE was showing signs of lameness and after consultation with the owners, the decision has been made to retire the gelding. Stewards nonetheless ordered that AWE would require a veterinary certificate if it was to resume a racing career with any other stable. ROY'S ROAD – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the lead near the 1200m. SO YOU BATTLE – When questioned in relation to the performance, Trainer R Vale stated that he could offer no explanation into the poor performance in today’s event and further added that he would be consulting the connections of SO YOU BATTLE and the gelding would most likely be leaving his stable. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. WINTILLY – Raced wide throughout. DEFROSTED – When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance of today’s event he stated that the quicker tempo of todays event suited the mare, he further added that the previous starts were not overly disappointing and was expecting an improved performance in comparison to its previous starts. I SAY BOOM – When questioned in regards to the improved performance in today’s event trainer J Manzelmann stated that whilst he was surprised by the ease of victory he expected a much better performance from the gelding today as it was reverting to a grass track as well as racing on its home surface in which it was more comfortable on. Trainer Manzelmann he further added that I SAY BOOM did not handle the dirt surface at Charters Tower. ADMIRAL ASH – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Hampered shortly after the start. CHILLI PALMER – Inclined to over race in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied on multiple occasions off of heels. Near the 1000m had to be heavily restrained from the heels of WINTILLY Race 6: LADBROKES RACING CLUB OPEN HANDICAP 1560 M BRAD – From the 1300m pulled hard for some distance and had to be restrained from the heels of SAVVY LEGENED (NZ). Apprentice G Semmens (SAVVY LEGEND (NZ)) was reminded of her obligation to not excessively slow the tempo of the race. SUCH A WHIT – Jumped outwards at the start. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position in the lead near the 1000m. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. SARNIA – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Race 7: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 6TH JUNE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 M The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice S Nielson to view the photo finish. After being satisfied with the semaphored numbers stewards declared correct weight. KNOWITALL JACK (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages. SENSATIONABULL – Disappointed for a run nearing the 250m. LIFETIME QUEST – Raced wide in the early stages. OUT BACK BOOM – Slow to begin. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. HOLLYWOOD DREAMING – Raced wide in the early stages. NELLYATION – Raced wide throughout. Following the running of the race apprentice B Johnson was examined by QAS officers after being struck in the face during the race and assessed for a concussion. She was cleared of a concussion however she may have some dental injuries.
