THANGOOL 13/04/2024
RACE 5 - BETTA HOME LIVING BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1600M)

Stewards conducted an inquiry into an incident nearing the 900m involving Jockey’s T. Chambers (SETHLANS), W. Satherley (LANOVA) and Apprentice M. Apel (KNOWITALL JACK (NZ)) (assisted by Jockey A. Butler). Apprentice M. Apel was found guilty of a careless riding charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she permitted her mount (KNOWITALL JACK (NZ)) to shift in causing SETHLANS (T. Chambers) to be checked and lose its rightful run. Apprentice Apel’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 06/06/2024 and to conclude midnight 15/06/2024. When considering penalty, stewards determined the carelessness to be in low range, considered the consequence of the shift and Apprentice Apel’s prior breaches under the rule using the QRIC careless riding template. Apprentice Apel was advised of her rights of an appeal.

BRAD & DR NEIGH (Trainer T. Cook)

Trainer T. Cook advised stewards that his runners, BRAD (1st occasion) and DR NEIGH (2nd occasion), had both bled from both nostrils. BRAD had bled from both nostrils for the first time during the float trip home from the Thangool meeting on Monday 3rd June 2024. Trainer Cook was advised the gelding would be stood down from racing under the provisions of AR79(4) for a period of three months and must officially trial/jump out or gallop 1000m satisfactorily in the presence of stewards prior to racing again.

Trainer Cook also advised that DR NEIGH had bled both nostrils for the second time at trackwork on Wednesday 5th June 2024. As this was the second occasion DR NEIGH had bled from both nostrils, Trainer Cook was advised the gelding would not be permitted to start and barred from racing again under the provisions of AR79(6).
