SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
ROCKHAMPTON 23RD JULY 20
Trainer C. Taylor advised that following its run at the Rockhampton meeting on Tuesday, JUST BINGO pulled up well and advised that the gelding has since moved on from his stable. Trainer Taylor also advised that BARRY’S LANE had pulled up lame in both front forelegs following its run on Tuesday and further advised that he will consider the gelding’s immediate racing future in his stable. Stewards advised Trainer Taylor that BARRY’S LANE would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
Jockey J. Stanley reported to stewards that following the last race at Rockhampton on Tuesday his foot was stood on by a horse, however, did not require any medical attention at the time.
GENERAL
Due to delayed flights out of Brisbane this morning, Jockeys G. Cartwright, C. Whiteley, Apprentices T. Fenlon and D. Bennett were all unable to make their engagements in race one and were subsequently replaced as per the steward’s race day summary. As there were no other suitable riders that would be able to make the weight for JUST LIKE ROSIE, stewards granted permission for Apprentice L. Martyn to replace jockey C. Whiteley.

Race 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIBBO AND LAUREN MDN PLT - 1200M
ARIK LAD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Whilst a post-race veterinary examination revealed no immediate abnormalities, stewards ordered that a veterinary report be attained prior to its next start due to the abnormal gait and the opinion of the on-course veterinarian’s observations.
CIVIL WAR – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m had to be eased when I’M FAMOUS shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
I'M FAMOUS - Raced wide in the early stages.
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Restrained near the 800m for a number of strides.
JUST LIKE ROSIE – Commenced to overrace near the 800m and had to be restrained from heels of IRRESISTIBLE FORCE for a number of strides. Following the running of the event, Trainer T. Cook advised that in his opinion JUST LIKE ROSIE had pulled up distressed and advised he will undertake to report on the mare’s condition in the days subsequent.
LOVE ON DISPLAY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI PLATINUM – Contacted on the hindquarters on jumping by SUPEEDO GONZALES.
SUPEEDO GONZALES – Jumped awkwardly contacting the hindquarters of MISHANI PLATINUM and raced greenly throughout.
SPEC OF SILVER – Near the 1000m commenced to overrace and shifted in abruptly.
QUEENBEEL (NZ) – Slow to begin.
Race 2: PAYNE PRINT QTIS 3Y HCP - 1300M
BOLD COMIC – Jumped away awkwardly.
PAPASITO – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with SHEEZALITTLETORQUE shortly after. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey J. Stanley stated that after not beginning as well as he had anticipated, he was forced to race wide for the majority of the event. He added that whilst he had to cover extra ground during the run, he felt that in his opinion that PAPASITO raced like a flat horse and was disappointing overall. Trainer C. Taylor stated that PAPASITO would now be going for a spell.
HANGIN' AROUND – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Lost the offside winker at the 450m.
SHEEZALITTLETORQUE – Bumped shortly after jumping with PAPASITO. Laid in rounding the home turn and had to shift in to avoid the heels of CRAICARO approaching the 250m.
MISHANI AVIATOR – Jumped away awkwardly.
TOHUKU – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained on several occasions.
Race 3: MANDY ATHERTON PROFESSIONALS BM70 HCP - 1100M
CAPTAIN FOX – Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied for a number of strides when tightened by BOLD HUNTER which was taken in by BEAUTY BOOM and had to be checked shortly after.
BOLD HUNTER – Jumped away awkwardly, shifting out and contacting the outside barrier partition. Near the 900m had to be steadied for a number of strides when taken in by BEAUTY BOOM, and shortly after continued to overrace, shifting in despite the efforts of its rider placing CAPTIAN FOX and DOLLAR DOLLAR (NZ) in restricted room with both runners having to check for a number of strides. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a tear in the near hind ligament. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that BOLD HUNTER would require a veterinary certificate and complete a satisfactory trial prior to its next start.
THATFEELSBETTER – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
DOLLAR DOLLAR (NZ) – Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied for a number of strides when tightened by CAPTAIN FOX which was taken in by BOLD HUNTER, which in turn was taken in by BEAUTY BOOM (J. Huxtable). At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey J. Huxtable pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 days with the suspension to commence midnight 3/08/2024 and to conclude midnight 9/08/2024. When assessing penalty, stewards took into consideration mitigating factors, guilty plea and Jockey Huxtable’s exemplary record which consists of no prior suspensions under the rule since March 2023.
MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin.
Race 4:BLACKS REAL ESTATE H.L. BLACK MEMORIAL OPEN HCP - 1800M
MAJOR ARTIE – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey S. Cormack stated that his instructions were to lead on the horse or at least be positive due to the outside barrier and the fact that MAJOR ARTIE had settled closer in the run when based in New South Wales over similar distances. He added that after jumping fairly he attempted to gain the lead as quickly as possible, however as SUCH A WHIT and FIGHTING COMMANDO had improved, he had to ask his mount to do a bit of work to obtain the outright lead near the 1200m. Jockey Cormack further stated that once he attained the outright lead, he was satisfied with how MAJOR ARTIE was travelling up until a point near the 800m when he was pressured in the lead by FIGHTING COMMANDO and CLASS OF ROYALTY. Jockey Cormack added that after being pressured, MAJOR ARTIE only responded fairly and when he asked for an effort in the home straight, his mount failed to respond and as he was no longer a winning proposition, he elected not to place his mount under any more pressure. Trainer J. Wehlow could offer no explanation for the performance, however stated that MAJOR ARTIE had worked well during the week and the stable were confident of the gelding’s chances and provided evidence that he had supported MAJOR ARTIE. Trainer Wehlow further stated that he would see how MAJOR ARTIE recovers and report back to stewards in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, and a post-race swab sample was also taken for analysis.
CLASS OF ROYALTY – Raced wide from the 1200m onwards and laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
KICK ON COMMAND – Slow to begin. Disappointed for a run near the 200m and had to shift wider to obtain clear running.
HARBELLE – Slow to begin. Pulled hard in the middle stages and had to be restrained from heels on a number of occasions.
SEERESS - Slow to begin.
I SAY BOOM – Overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied from the heels of MAURICE’S MEDAD near the 1300m.
Race 5: FEGAN ELECTRICAL RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HCP - 1800M
BRAND NEW (NZ) – Slow to begin. Had to steady to avoids of the heels of GENERAL WOLFFE when racing in restricted room near the 1400m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SHAMUKA – Raced wide in the early stages.
GOLD WITNESS – Jumped away awkwardly.
KELLERS SHELTER – Had to steady when racing in restricted room near the 1400m.
ROZNAMLA (NZ) – Slow to begin and was bumped by PATTI WAGGIN shortly after the start.
FRIJOLES – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary at the request of its rider revealed no abnormalities.
DOOM DIVA – Near the 1350m, had to steady and restrain when racing onto the heels of BRAND NEW (NZ).
WHATJEUDOIN' – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Jumped the crossing near the 1600m. Had to shift out to obtain clear racing room near the 250m. Apprentice M. Castle reported that WHATJEUDOIN’ raced greenly throughout.
ADMIRAL ASH – Slow to begin. Raced wide until obtaining a leading position near the 1100m.
PATTI WAGGIN – Shifted out on jumping, bumping ROZNAMLA (NZ). Overraced in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
VOLARCHI – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 200m.
Race 6: S.H. TAIT & CO CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HCP - 1100M
SUPER FAST – Shifted out on jumping, hampering OUR BENEFIT.
OUR BENEFIT – Hampered on jumping by SUPER FAST and bumped the hind quarters of INNER SPIRIT shortly after.
INNER SPIRIT – Bumped in the hind quarters by OUR BENEFIT shortly after the start. Commence to overrace from the 800m to a point near the 500m.
SERAFIMA – Declared a late scratching at 3.37pm after refusing to load. Prior to correct weight being declared, all bets placed on SERAFIMA were ordered to be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply:
4c in the dollar for the win (GOLD ACADEMY)
4c in the dollar for the place of the winner (GOLD ACADEMY)
3c in the dollar for 2nd place (WHITSUNDAY SESSION)
12c in the dollar for 3rd place (ELESPRIT MISS)
When assessing whether any action was to be taken against SERAFIMA, stewards in consultation with the starter determined that certain practices and procedures that have been implemented on the record of SERAFIMA had not been adhered to, as a result stewards could not be satisfied that action against the mare was not warranted in this circumstance. Nonetheless, whilst making this determination, Trainer J. Wehlow was put on notice regarding SERAFIMA’s loading manners.
ELESPRIT MISS – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
TORNADO TORQUE – Raced wide throughout.
DIVINE HUNTER – Raced wide in the early stages.
SILENT ANGEL – Dipped on jumping.
Race 7: LADBROKES MACKAY NEWMARKET - 1300M
TIGER LEGEND – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before obtaining clear racing room near the 200m. Over the concluding stages, Jockey A. Butler stated that his mount felt awkward in its action to a point where he was extremely concerned that TIGER LEGEND may have broken down. As a result, he elected to stop riding the mount immediately. Whilst a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, stewards ordered that a full veterinary report be submitted prior to TIGER LEGEND’s next start due to the action the gelding was displaying over the concluding stages. Trainer J. Manzelmann undertook to report back to stewards on the immediate condition of TIGER LEGEND in the days subsequent.
MONTENEGRO MAN – Unable to obtain clear running for the entirety of the home straight and approaching the finishing line, shifted out carrying COCHRANE slightly wider.
CASHIN' CHEX (NZ) – Shifted in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
FANAAR (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages and was restrained from heels on a number of occasions.
REAL KEY – Raced wide throughout. Over the concluding stages had to be restrained when awkwardly placed on heels when CASHIN’ CHEX (NZ) (S. Collett) shifted in under pressure and COCHRANE shifted out slightly after being taken out by MONTENEGRO MAN (J Huxtable). Both Jockey’s J. Huxtable and S. Collett were both issued with a reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a).
BOLD AND LUCY – Slow to begin.
COCHRANE – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Carried wider by MONTENEGRO MAN over the concluding stages.
Race 8: M2E SERVICES BM65 HCP - 1300M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight when confirming the official numbers, stewards determined that BARNEY RABBLE had been incorrectly placed as 4th when CHICKERARTIE had in fact placed 4th. Stewards altered the numbers to 6-3-2-4 and declared correct weight.
CHICKERARTIE – Raced wide throughout.
SERGEANT HULKA – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin and raced wide throughout.
SAVVY SOVEREIGN (NZ) – Restrained from heels near the when the pace slackened near the 900m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
REALEZA – Slow to begin. Jockey S Sheargold reported that his mount failed to race tractability today and believed REALEZA may benefit from a spell.
BARNEY RABBLE – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey J. Huxtable stated whilst his mount seemed to travel fairly in the effort, when he asked BARNEY RABBLE for an effort, the gelding failed to respond in a timely manner and in his opinion believed the gelding had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. McConachy advised BARNEY RABBLE will be sent for a spell.
EMMA'S JET – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin.
DEELOSH – Raced wide throughout.
FLYING SHAMUS – Raced keenly in the early stages and raced wide until obtaining the lead near the 900m.
BRAZEN BRECCIA – Restrained from heels near the when the pace slackened approaching the 800m.
Following the running of this race, Apprentice A. Donald reported to stewards that she suffered a foot injury after unsaddling her mount and was displaying significant soreness. Apprentice Donald was advised that a medical would be required prior to her next engagements.
