Rider Scott Sheargold was injured in a fall at trackwork on Wednesday 5 September 2024 and did not attend the meeting. Mr Sheargold that he must provide a medical clearance prior to next riding. He was replaced as below - 2. Rider Nathan Thomas was unable to fulfil his engagement in Race 1 due to mechanical issues delaying his flight. Rider replacements Race 1. No 3. LAKE VARNA – Hung out throughout, and near the 150 metres, lay out crowding MOON OVER MATILDA which had to be steadied. Given all circumstances, Rider Ryan Wiggins was reminded of his obligations when in similar circumstances. Trainer Stephen Royes was advised that a warning would be placed on the mares’ racing manners. GREYLIST – Rider Jackson Murphy reported that the gelding over-raced throughout. Ran wide rounding the final turn when racing greenly and near the 150 metres shifted in crowding MOON OVER MATILDA. MARKERINK – Began very awkwardly and took some time to settle into stride. Gave ground passing the 600 metres and finished well back. A post-race veterinary-examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. MOON OVER MATILDA – Raced in restricted room and had to steady passing the 150 metres when outside LAKE VARNA, which lay out under pressure, and simultaneously inside GREYLIST which when racing greenly lay in. Race 2: LADBROKES RACING CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050 M COSTNER – Raced greenly over the concluding stages. When questioned on the performance, rider Justin Huxtable stated that the gelding travelled only fairly throughout the event and failed to let down when pressured. Rider Huxtable added that he was of the opinion that the gelding would be better suited over more ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. ZORAYDAH (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly over the concluding stages. WANDJINA SPIRIT – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after and got back. SIMPLY TINA – Raced wide throughout. Race 3: VALE FRANK PAUL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M ARTHUR'S DREAM – Was placed in restricted room shortly after the start when AMBERINGER shifted in, then raced greenly for a short distance. AMBERINGER – Shifted in briefly shortly after the start placing ARTHUR’S DREAM in restricted room. Jockey Warwick Satherley was reminded of his obligations when in similar circumstances. raced wide throughout. lay in over the concluding stages. ITHINKBETTA – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. RANRAHRAH – Began awkwardly. THE HOME TEAM – Raced three-wide for the early and middle stages. Stewards noted rider R. Wiggins exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+2) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use, no further action was taken. COMBAT MEDIC – Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Changed stride and shifted out passing the 250 metres and became unbalanced for a short distance. Race 4: LEADING TRAINER 2024 RICKY VALE MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300 M BO BO BEWARE – Lay in rounding the home turn; shifted in passing the 200 metres under riding placing SPRING’S GIFT in restricted room; rider Justin Huxtable was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) and advised that when in similar circumstances he is expected to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion. PEAKING TOM – Raced wide throughout. SPRING'S GIFT – Raced in restricted room passing the 200 metres, then shifted across heels to gain clear running. RUSSIAN LAD – Severely checked at the start. Raced wide throughout. JUST LIKE ROSIE – Began awkwardly then shifted in severely checking RUSSIAN LAD. Raced three-wide throughout. Gave ground from the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. ARIK LAD – Trainer Mr Drew Crouch was fined $100.00 for presenting his horse to race with the incorrect gear pursuant to AR 106(1). Raced on heels for a distance passing the 700 metres. Race 5: LEADING JOCKEY 2024 JUSTIN STANLEY CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1560 M DECIDUOUS – Began awkwardly. BRAVIO – Badly hampered on jumping and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lesions on the hind legs. CUBAN AFFAIR – Slow to begin. LADY MASQUERADE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Bumped rounding the home turn. Lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. KELLERS SHELTER – When questioned regarding the improved performance of the winner KELLERS SHELTER, Trainer Ms Tracy Simmons stated that the gelding had been advantaged by jumping on terms with the field, being ridden by a senior rider, and being saved for one run as per her instructions. Race 6: LEADING APPRENTICE 2024 MCKENZIE APEL CLASS 1 PLATE 1560M BLUE RAY – Had to steady passing the 600 metres when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of DIVINE HUNTER, which had steadied off the heels of MR GREY when racing keenly; was crowded and placed in restricted room to the inside of DIVINE HUNTER near the 300 metres; had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 150 metres. MAMA'S MAN – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. DIVINE HUNTER (Ms Erin Molloy) – Improved onto the heels of MR GREY passing the 600 metres when racing keenly and had to be restrained; shifted ground inward passing the 300 metres crowding BLUE RAY for a short distance; was held up until near the 100 metres and when taken into clear running shortly after, was crowded wider when SET THE SAILS lay out under pressure, with this resulting in MISSAYTER having to steady in consequence. Given all circumstances, including that rider Apprentice Molloy has only recently returned to race riding, the Stewards counselled Ms Molloy in the presence of Senior rider Ryan Wiggins and advised her that she must ensure that she exercises greater care when shifting ground. LOVE ON DISPLAY – Raced wide in the early stages. MISSAYTER – Raced wide in the middle stages. Had to be steadied passing the 50 metres. Race 7: HORSE OF YEAR 2024 REAL KEY OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M HAN DYNASTY – Dictated inward passing the 1000 metres bumping with BLUE KENTUCKY MOON. CIRCULARITY – Was declared a late scratching at 11:20am on veterinary advice after sustaining laceration to the nasal region while being transported to the meeting. Trainer Mr Lindsay Hatch was advised that CIRCULARITY would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing. BLUE KENTUCKY MOON – Checked near the 1000 metres and lost ground. HURTLE – Checked on jumping. Raced wide throughout. ASPEN LAD – Shifted ground inward near the 1,000 metres when not clear. Rider Adrian Layt was found guilty under AR 131(a) and was suspended from the close of racing on Saturday the 14th of September up to and including racing on Monday the 23rd of September (9 Days). Inclined to lay out over the final 300 metres. COURTESY BUS – Hung in leaving the barriers and bumped heavily with HURTLE which was checked. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Race 8:FIRST NATIONAL REAL ESTATE MACKAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1200M MICROWAVE JENNY – Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. LENNY ROCKET – Bounded on jumping. Raced wide throughout. POWER SISTER – Bounded on jumping and lost ground. ISSHEGREY – Blundered on jumping. LISTEN LISTEN – Improved onto the heels of ISSHEGREY when over-racing and had to be heavily restrained. Race 9: RACING AGAIN TUESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER CLASS 6 PLATE 1300M DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) – Raced three-wide throughout. Hung in over the concluding stages. Jockey Leah Martyn was advised of her obligations with respect to the use of a whip on a horse not in contention. VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Began awkwardly. BEAUTY BOOM – Bumped SENNAPROST on jumping. DEEL WITH ME – Slow into stride. Jockey Michael Murphy was advised of her obligations with respect to the use of a whip on a horse not in contention.
