QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB SATURDAY, 28TH SEPTEMBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – +3m EntirePENETROMETER – 4.7 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – H GillettStewards – D Griffiths, P Warren & G Wust GENERAL Stewards approved rider overweights as per the race day summary. Stewards questioned Trainer Joshua Manzelmann in relation to scratching dual accepted BOLD ZIP in race 1 with a veterinary certificate while remaining in the field for race 6. Mr Manzelmann stated that he had incorrectly advised Racing Australia of the reason for scratching (Veterinary) and that he was scratching BOLD ZIP in race 1 as it was a dual acceptor. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that Stewards accepted his explanation however he was advised to ensure he complied with all scratching times and procedures. Stewards ordered a pre-race veterinary examination of BOLD ZIP and no abnormalities found. Race 1: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1560 M BLUE RAY –Began awkwardly and slow to begin. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey A Butler stated that the gelding raced tractably in the early and middle stages however lacked a sprint and was one paced throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities . DEEL WITH ME – Began awkwardly impeding KELLERS SHELTER. THREE WISE MEN – Steadied off the heels of TYCOON BABY near the 850 metres. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. KELLERS SHELTER – Impeded at the start by DEEL WITH ME and VIVACIOUS AWARD. Steadied off the heels of THREE WISE MEN near the 200 metres, lost momentum, and shifted wider. Apprentice M Apel (THREE WISE MEN) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift outwards under riding near the 200 metres. TYCOON BABY – Jumped out at the start taking VIVACIOUS AWARD out onto KELLERS SHELTER which was impeded. PRIVATE CHEETAH – Trainer D Amos was questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding in winning today’s event. Trainer Amos advised that PRIVATE CHEETAH had benefited from the step up in distance in today’s event in comparison to its most recent starts. BROMES – Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly in the middle stages. VIVACIOUS AWARD – Carried inwards at the start by TYCOON BABY and impeded KELLERS SHELTER as a result. GIGI FILLE – Raced ungenerously and refused to settle until the 1300 metres. Jockey C Whiteley reported that the mare’s tendency to over-race in the early stages was in his opinion detrimental to the overall performance of GIGI FILLE. Race 2: KLIEN TOOLS OPEN HANDICAP 1560 M SIR ROCKET – Laid inwards when placed under pressure over the final 100 metres. DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) – Slow to begin. Hung in over the final 250 metres requiring Apprentice L Martyn to have to stop riding her mount on several occasions and attempt to straighten it. Trainer John Manzelmann was questioned regarding the improved performance of DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) and he advised that the gelding had gained fitness in recent starts and dropped considerable weight in today’s event. BONDURANT – When questioned in relation to the performance apprentice O Kendall advised that she was instructed to lead as is the normal racing pattern of the gelding. She further added that she had to work to the lead in the back straight and BONDURANT travelled well until the 500 metres and then when placed under pressure, failed to respond and failed to finish off the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Race 3: SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M The start was delayed when STELLAR LEGEND reared in the barriers and became cast on the barrier partition. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:58pm. ALFAVITA – Raced wide throughout. Rider J Huxtable reported that the gelding commenced to hang out shortly after the start and continued to race ungenerously throughout the event. Trainer K Smyth advised that he would experiment with gear changes prior to ALFAVITA’s next start. FRACTIONAL – Hampered at the 800 metres and forced wide. Shifted in at the 600 metres momentarily tightening MARVIN ROCKET which was racing ungenerously. Apprentice B Johnson was reprimanded under the AR131 (a) and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. MARVIN ROCKET – Jumped inwards at the start carrying OBLIGATED in onto NEPTUNE LEGEND which was hampered and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages. Hung in abruptly and struck the running rail at the 800 metres and then commenced to race ungenerously and lose ground. Momentarily tightened for room at the 600 metres when FRACTIONAL shifted in before MARVIN ROCKET compounded over the final 400 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer John Manzelmann was advised that MARVIN ROCKET must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial or jump out before being permitted to race again. FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Raced wide for the majority. NEPTUNE LEGEND – Hampered and lost ground on jumping when OBLIGATED was carried in by MARVIN ROCKET. OBLIGATED – Carried inwards on jumping resulting in NEPTUNE LEGEND being hampered and lose ground. STELLAR LEGEND – Reared prior to the start and became cast in the barriers. Was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:58pm. Stewards ordered all monies invested on STELLAR LEGEND to be refunded in full. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to the scratching: 0 cents in the dollar for the winner (ANDIRON)7 cents in the dollar for the place of winner (ANDIRON)0 cents in the dollar for 2nd place (BIGCAT)8 cents in the dollar for 3rd place (FRACTIONAL) Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that STELLAR legend would be stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial or jump out. KOITAKI SUNDAY – Shifted out at the 800 metres when racing behind MARVIN ROCKET which struck the fence carrying FRACTIONAL wider on the track. Laid outwards over the concluding stages. Race 4: APEC CABLES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100 M The start of the race was delayed when TOTO refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:35pm TOTO – Was declared a late scratching scratching at 2:35pm when the gelding refused to load. Stewards ordered all monies invested on TOTO to be refunded in full. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to the scratching: 0 cents in the dollar for the winner (HUMOUR ME)0 cents in the dollar for the place of winner (HUMOUR ME)7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place (LAMENTUM)9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place (SUPER FAST) Trainer Graham Hughes was advised that TOTO must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial or jump out before being permitted to race again. RELEASE LE MISSILE – Slow into stride. FLYING SHAMUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. HUMOUR ME – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of dehydration. Trainer N. Walsh was advised that HUMOUR ME would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. LAMENTUM – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Hung in over the final 150 metres requiring Jockey J Huxtable to have to stop riding on two occasions and attempt to straighten his mount. SHEEZALITTLETORQUE – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Race 5: MM ELECTRICAL MACKAY NQ CLASSIC QTIS 3YO & 4YO BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1800 M PIPISTRELLE – Trainer R Vale advised that he had not issued instructions to lead in the race however after jumping well and with the lack of early pace Apprentice M Apel elected to allow the mare to stride forward. PIPISTRELLE shifted out over the concluding stages from the 250 metres onwards. SPIN DOCTOR – Jumped inwards at the start and hampered by MADNUS LEE. ORCA – Laid inwards in the early stages of the home straight. SILVERADO MISS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted out sharply from a rails position at the 900 metres when momentarily placed on the heels of MISHANI AVIATOR. MADNUS LEE – Hampered on jumping by YA LOVE HER and as a result SPIN DOCTER was hampered shortly after. MISHANI OPAL – Slow into stride. MISHANI TYCOON – Declared a late scratching at 8:00am due to no suitable riders available. MOON OVER MATILDA – Declared a late scratching at 8:00am due to no suitable riders available. YA LOVE HER – Jumped outwards at the start hampering MADNUS LEE and in turn SPIN DOCTOR was hampered shortly after. Race 6: CCG CABLE TERMINATIONS CLASS 6 PLATE 1300 M SHAMEDY – Slow to begin. BOLD ZIP – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. THATFEELSBETTER – Reared as the barriers opened and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 700m improved onto the heels of SHAMEDY and shifted wider on the track and raced wide thereafter. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. LADY RAIN – Raced three wide throughout. SENNAPROST – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running until the final 250 metres. Race 7: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 17TH OCTOBER BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1300 M The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing jockey J Huxtable and Stewards to view the available replays to determine whether MIL CIENTO had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the replays stewards were of the view that MIL CIENTO’s barrier manners had been the cause for the poor start and was subsequently declared a starter. CHILLI PALMER – Hung in noticeably over the final 150 metres which resulted in rider C Spry being unable to fully test the gelding. Trainer T Simmons was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings record for laying in noticeably over the concluding stages proving difficult to ride out. I SAY BOOM – Slow to begin. MIL CIENTO – Fractious prior to the start. Began very awkwardly losing considerable ground. Trainer K Smyth was advised that a warning was issued regarding the geldings barrier manners. LUVIN' OUR GRACE – Slow to begin. MR GREY – Held up for clear running until the 200 metres. WANDJINA SPIRIT – A post-race veterinary examination of WANDJINA SPIRIT revealed the mare to be experiencing cardiac arrythmia. Trainer D Crouch was advised that WANDJINA SPIRIT will not be permitted to start until the completion of Racing Australia’s cardiac arrhythmia code of practice. Trainer D Crouch advised he would consider the mares immediate racing future of WANDJINA SPIRIT within his stable. EYES ARE LION – Near the 1000m had to be checked and lose ground when EARLY FUSION shifted inwards. Apprentice M Apel (EARLY FUSION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in near the 1000m when insufficiently clear of EYES ARE LION resulting in that runner checking and losing ground. Apprentice M Apel’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 30 September 2024 and expire midnight 9 October 2024. EXCITE CHOO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
