TAKE THE LEAD (Apprentice M. Apel) – Stewards concluded an inquiry regarding the vigour shown over the concluding stages of the event by Apprentice M. Apel. After considering the evidence provided to the panel, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that a charge should be warranted in this instance, however Apprentice Apel was reminded of her obligation to ensure she rides her mounts out fully to the finish.

FLYING SHAMUS – Stewards inquired into the reasoning behind the late rider declaration of FLYING SHAMUS. Trainer J. Hatfield was reprimanded under the provisions of LR67(1). In determining appropriate penalty, stewards took into consideration this was Trainer Hatfield’s first ever breach under this particular rule. Raced keenly in the early stages.
LAST LAUGH – Shifted in on jumping, bumping LEADERSHIP SPILL. Raced wide until obtaining a position outside the lead near the 700m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BM70 HANDICAP (1300 Metres)
SUCH A WHIT – Bounded on jumping and was slow into stride as a result.
BENCOOLEN – Shifted out on jumping, bumping with SENNAPROST. Shifted wider upon entering the home straight to obtain clear racing room. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey R. Wiggins was reminded of his obligations in ensuring to stop and straighten his mounts when shifting ground in future.
SENNAPROST – Shifted in on jumping, bumping with BENCOOLEN. Raced wide throughout.
HUMOUR ME – Bounded on jumping. Near the 700m, had to momentarily restrain to avoid the heels of CHILLI PALMER (C. Jokic) which shifted in. Jockey C. Jokic was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.

MISHANI TALENT – Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 200m.
SUGAR QUEEN – Near the 150m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CLUCK. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards questioned both riders Jockey C. Jokic (SUGAR QUEEN) and Jockey S. Cormack (MISHANI OPAL) regarding the incident. It was established that approaching the 150m, once MISHANI OPAL had established a run to the outside of SUGAR QUEEN, the gelding had commenced to lay inwards and simultaneously SUGAR QUEEN had begun to lay in away from MISHANI OPAL and across the heels of CLUCK despite the efforts of its rider. After taking evidence from both riders, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied and attribute blame to any particular rider and were of the opinion that SUGAR QUEEN’s manners where the majority contributor to the interference and stewards reported the incident as such.
MISHANI DELTA – Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages.
Race 4: BOOK FOR MELB CUP TUES 5TH NOV MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 Metres)
The start of the race was delayed when SPITZBERG underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers. SPITZBERG was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:56pm on veterinary advice after being found lame in fore and hind legs. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SPITZBERG be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply:
17 cents in the dollar for the win (OBLIGATED)
26 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner (OBLIGATED)
20 cents in the dollar for 2nd place (FLY TRAP)
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place (BLUE TOES (NZ))
Trainer I. Prizeman was advised that SPITZBERG would require a full veterinary clearance confirming the soundness of the gelding prior to its next future race start.
BIGCAT – Prior to the running of the race, stewards granted permission for BIGCAT to race with Blinkers which were not declared, as it was found that the gelding had worn the gear during its previous start. Trainer N. Walsh was fined $200 under the provisions of AR106(1) for presenting BIGCAT to race with incorrect gear.
