STEWARDS REPORT

MACKAY TURF CLUB INC

5 NOVEMBER 2024

WEATHER – FINE
TRACK RATING – GOOD 4
RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – H. Gillett
Stewards – E. Suli & G. Wust

GENERAL
Stewards permitted overweights as per the race day summary.

PRIDE AN’ JOY (Race 1) & MISHANI OPAL (Race 4) both underwent pre-race veterinary examinations as they competed on Saturday 2nd of November and were subsequently cleared to start.

Jockey M Murphy was reprimanded under AR190(3) for accepting rides on TERMINUS (Race 3) and CLUCK (Race 4) in which he was 0.5kg overweight on top of the already approved 1.0kg overweight. Mr. Murphy was permitted to retain his rides as there were no other riders available closer to the handicapped weight. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of Mr. Murphys relatively good record, his forthright record and submissions made for mitigating circumstances.

Race 1: LADBROKES MAIDEN PLATE 1560m

The start of the event was delayed approximately 10 minutes to allow for the arrival of the QAS ambulance on course.

MADNUS LEE – Bumped on jumping by NEPTUNE LEGEND. Raced wide in the early stages.

MISHANI TYCOON – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and was slow to begin as a result.

IMPERIAL BLOSSOM – Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

NEPTUNE LEGEND – Near the 1400m over raced onto the heels of IMPERIAL BLOSSOM and shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider and momentarily placed PRIDE AN’ JOY in restricted room. Put in an awkward stride leaving the 350m.

PRIDE AN’ JOY – Momentarily placed in restricted room near the 1400m when NEPTUNE LEGEND shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Raced wide in the middle stages.

TOHUKU – Declared a late scratching at 12:10pm on vets advice due to developing hives after being shampooed on course. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TOHUKU to be refunded in full and deductions to apply as follows:

7c the win on PRIDE AN’ JOY (1st)
8c the place on PRIDE AN’ JOY (1st)
8c the place on MADNUS LEE (2nd)
8c the place on SEND THE MONEY (3rd)

Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that TOHUKU would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.

TOPTIMISTIC – Raced keenly in the early stages. Commenced to yield ground from the 400m. Apprentice E Molloy reported that her mount was inclined to over race in the early stages which proved detrimental to the finishing chances of the mare. Apprentice Molloy further added that being first up today from a spell, TOPTIMISTIC would derive significant benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer L Manzelmann advised stewards that he would be looking into the immediate racing future of the mare within his stable. Trainer L Manzelmann was advised that TOPTIMISTIC would have to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again due to being uncompetitive.

NOVEMBER FOAL – Severely over raced in the early stages. Raced wide in the middle stages.

Race 2: FIELD MINING SERVICES CLASS 3 PLATE 1560m

ORCA – Jockey T Chambers reported that it was her intention to be closer to the speed however her mount never travelled well throughout the event and proved disappointing.

TERMINUS – Began awkwardly bumping BRASCO. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Stewards inquired into the vigour shown by jockey M Murphy over the concluding stages. Jockey Murphy stated that his mount was laying in over final stages and he had to straighten his mount to avoid making contact with the inside running rail. Stewards could not be satisfied that his actions had cost his mount a placing however reminded jockey Murphy of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the finish.

SUPER SLICK – Due to miscommunication between trainer B Trimble and jockey W Satherley, Mr Satherley was errantly declared on SUPER SLICK and Mr Satherley was unable to make the weight for this ride. Mr Satherley was subsequently replaced by apprentice M Campbell who was the only rider able to ride at the handicapped weight.
