GENERAL
 
Due to the uncertainty of this meeting proceeding due to COVID-19, all late rider declarations and weight variance explanations were accepted by Stewards.
 
 
Race 1: ARNIE & RENE RIDEOUT MEMORIAL BM50 HCP – 1000M
 
TOM’S STAR – Was declared a late scratching at 12.25pm after becoming fractious in the mounting yard and was unable to resaddled. Considering the circumstances of the reason why the gelding needed to be resaddled, no further action was taken. Deductions not applicable due to no on course betting.
 
IDALIA’S DREAM – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after
 
PIGINARKI – Tightened for room shortly after jumping.
 
SENKO SIDRA – Slow to begin and travelled wide throughout.
 
TEDDER EXPRESS – Slow to begin and travelled wide throughout.
 
SPIRIT’S FIRST – Tightened for room shortly after jumping between IDALIA’S STAR and PIGINARKI, who was taken in by TELLOFF despite the efforts of its rider. Rider G Geran reported that the mare failed to handle the hard track conditions and laid out rounding the first turn.
 
TELLOFF – Laid in shortly after jumping.
 
Race 2: PATRONS QTIS MAIDEN PLT – 1000M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow trainer B Hudson to view the films to ascertain whether there were grounds for MISS CRUISEY to be declared a non runner. After viewing the available patrol footage, he declined to make application and correct weight was declared.
 
THE ORANGE MUPPET – Shifted in abruptly on jumping despite the efforts of its rider.
 
FIDE ET AMORE – Checked approaching the winning post when racing inside MR NODDY who was taken in by KARTANUP
 
KARTANUP – Tightened for room on jumping between MR NODDY and KERLOO. Hung in down in the straight on a number of occasions and had to be steadied off the heels of MR NODDY near the 200m. Hung in again approaching the winning post, taking MR NODDY in onto FIDE ET AMORE who both had to be checked as result. Although the racing manners of KARTANUP contributed to this incident, H Phillips was reminded of her obligation to refrain from using the whip and ride hands and heels if her mount has a tendency to hang in. Trainer B Phillips was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding.
 
MIA SINGA – Permission was granted for G Hayes to claim only ½ kg of his 3kg claim. Tightened on jumping when THE ORANGE MUPPET shifted in abruptly.
 
MR NODDY – Jumped awkwardly. Taken in onto FIDE ET AMORE and had to be checked approaching the winning post when KARTANUP hung in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
KERLOO – Checked after jumping when tightened for room between MIA SINGA and KARTANUP.
 
PRINCESS CARTIER – Slow to begin.
 
MISS CRUISEY – Jumped awkwardly
 
Race 3: GORDON & EVELYN HUTTON MEMORIAL CL B HCP – 1200M
 
CHEVY – Jumped awkwardly and tightened for room shortly after when taken in by FROZE.
 
FROZE – Steadied shortly after jumping when taken in by BAUHINIA DRUM.
 
BETTYGEE (NZ) – Travelled wide throughout.
 
MS ORBITAL SPIRIT – Checked shortly after jumping when taken in by CHEVY.
 
RAINBOW SPARKLES – Permission was granted for M Barnham to ride the mare 2 1/2 kg over its allotted weight.
 
BAUHINIA DRUM – Had to be steadied shortly after jumping after being taken in by BETTYGEE(NZ). Raced wide throughout.
 
MARQUANT – Slow to begin
 
Rider Sally Sweeney reported that during the running of race 3, a stone that was thrown up from the kickback made contact with her mouth, causing damage to her teeth. She elected to continue her engagements and notified stewards after returning home of the pain that had now set in.
 
Race 4: KEN & GORDON RUSSELL MEMORIAL OPEN HCP – 1200M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow rider of second placegetter MR NODDY, H English, to view the judge’s photo. After viewing the photo finish, she was satisfied with the judges’ placings and correct weight was declared.
 
BLUE JEST – Rider dropped whip near the 900m. Travelled wide in the early stages.
 
SPLITZ – Travelled wide throughout.
 
LAYLA’S LAD – Permission was granted for J King to ride the gelding ½ kg over its allotted weight.
 
Race 5: AEON METALS BM55 HCP – 1400M
 
JACKPOT (NZ) – Slow to begin. Checked for several strides in the vicinity of the 1100m when racing to the inside of TIME OUT, which was also checked and taken inwards by ALL ELLIE. G Geran, rider of ALL ELLIE subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in at that point, and his license to ride in races was suspended for 14 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 29th March and to expire at midnight on the 12th April. When assessing penalty, stewards took into consideration jockey Geran’s poor recent record in relation to this rule as well as the high degree of carelessness and consequences his actions had.
 
THIS IS LIVIN’ – Travelled wide throughout.
 
TONTEIN – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and took no competitive part of the race. Trainer L Petersen was advised the gelding must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed minor bruising to both forelegs.
 
TIME OUT – Checked and taken in onto JACKPOT (NZ) near the vicinity of the 1100m. Held up momentarily shortly after entering the straight.
 
LENNON’S PADDOCK – Jumped awkwardly.
 
HULK HENRY – Raced wide throughout.
 
ON THE TWEED – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore knee. Trainer D Schultz was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the geldings’ next start.
 
STORMBORN ANGEL – Hampered by LENNON’S PADDOCK who shifted in on jumping.
 
Jockey M Barnham reported to stewards that he was feeling soreness in his shoulders and ankle area after an incident in the barriers with TONTEIN. Jockey Barnham declined to be examined by on course medical professionals and advised he would report back on his condition to stewards in the coming days.
