QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MORVEN RACE CLUB Morven – Saturday, 14September 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – D. MacDonald GENERAL When Apprentice L. O’Donnell and Apprentice S. Zoljan did not attend the meeting due to illness, replacements were permitted as per the Stewards’ race-day Summary. Apprentice Zoljan and Apprentice O’Donnell were advised they require medical clearances prior to riding again. Race 1: MORGAN PASTORAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) MAKERS – Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Improved onto the heels of PARISIAN ROCKSATR leaving the 800m and shifted wider. Raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event. MERCHANT MOON – Laid in for some distance passing the 800m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MUMMIFICATION – Slow to begin before losing ground and failing to maintain contact with the remainder of the field. Apprentice M. Mankelow reported after the gelding was slow to begin, it failed to handle the kick-back thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SQUAMISH – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CRYPTESS – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Rider J. Rudd advised that in his opinion, the mare failed to handle the track conditions. LONIESHA – Began awkwardly. MINT STREET – Began awkwardly. Bumped soon after the start. Race 2:SHERIDAN DELFORCE TRANSPORT CLASS B HANDICAP (1000m) ENERGIZED – Slow to begin. EDWARDS – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice M. Mankelow stated that the gelding failed to handle the track conditions. Trainer W. Pugsley advised that the gelding would be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. LEGISLATE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover in the early and middle stages of the event. Laid in and made contact with the inside running rail near the 200m for several strides. LIQUEUR GOLD – Slow to begin. Steadied soon after the start when ISLE OF BOOTY shifted in. Hung-out for some distance leaving the 800m. Apprentice B. Youngberry advised that in her opinion, the mare failed to handle the track conditions. LUMINOUS WATERS – Began awkwardly. ISLE OF BOOTY – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly soon after the start. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. TRANSITION – Apprentice T. Orr was permitted to claim 2kg of his 2.5kg allowance after being declared the replacement rider for Apprentice S. Zoljan. Stewards noted the lateness of the change. HAMMOON SUNSHINE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 3:MORVEN RC SUPPORTERS ‘FRED BALLINGAL & DOUG UTTING MEMORIAL’ BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1200m)JERLE – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. KUDU – Began awkwardly. OAKFIELD TARGET – Began awkwardly. SWISS BABE – Began awkwardly. MON PIERRE – Began extremely awkwardly resulting in Apprentice M. Mankelow becoming unbalanced and being dislodged a short distance later. Apprentice Mankelow was immediately attended to by QAS Officers and considered fit to fulfill her remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no abnormalities. HEAT – Stewards permitted Rider N. Fazackerley to ride 0.5kg over the allotted weight of 56.5kg when no suitable replacement was available. Rider Fazackerley was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3). In considering the matter Stewards noted Rider Fazackerley’s poor recent record in relation to the rule and weight related rules generally. Further, Rider Fazackerley was advised that should he continue to be unable to fulfil his obligation to ride at the advertised riding weight, Stewards would be obliged to consider preventing Rider Fazackerley from accepting rides at which he would be required to ride below 57kg. Race 4: ROMA SANDS RATINGS BAND 0-50 HANDICAP (1400m) Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view footage of the start in relation to BAUHINIA BEANS. Once satisfied that the gelding’s poor start was directly attributable to the gelding’s barrier manners, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. DERBARI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. BIONIC – When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice B. Youngberry advised that the gelding failed to handle the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MISTREY EMPEROR – Rider J. Missen dropped his whip near the 200m. SINDAGAR – Laid in and away from another runner for some distance leaving the 800m. THE STONE MASON – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ASHIKO BAY – Began awkwardly. MY DAY – Stewards permitted Rider J. Baker to ride 0.5kg over 58kg when no other suitable rider was available. Rider J. Baker pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) in that he did fail to ride his mount out over the final three strides, which in the Stewards’ opinion may have compromised the gelding’s chances of finishing fourth. Rider Baker was subsequently fined the sum of $200. In assessing penalty Stewards could not be fully satisfied that his actions had definitively compromised the gelding finishing fourth, however were of the opinion that his vigour was far below the expected standard. In considering penalty, Stewards considered Rider Baker’s guilty plea, good record in relation to the rule and that prizemoney was paid for fourth place. Rider Baker was advised of his rights to an appeal. MR DEMOLITION – Bumped on jumping. BAUHINIA BEANS – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground (5L). Trainer C. Baker was advised that the gelding would now be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. Following the running of this race, Apprentice N. Olzard was examined by QAS officers and deemed unfit to fulfill her remaining engagements. Apprentice Olzard was subsequently transported to hospital for further treatment. Apprentice Olzard was advised she requires a medical clearance prior to riding again. Race 5:CURLEY CATTLE TRANSPORT MORVEN CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1400m) HANOVER SQUARE – Raced in restricted room leaving the 100m when KAZZA’S JET laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Rider N. Fazackerley reported in his opinion, that the gelding may not have appreciated the firmer track conditions. STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. JERRY ZANDA – When asked to comment on the performance, Rider J. Missen advised that the gelding failed to handle the track conditions. A post-race veterinary examinations revealed no abnormalities. SKYFORGER – Raced wide and without cover until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 900m. KAZZA’S JET – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MORICONI – Late scratching at 2:55pm when Apprentice Olzard became indisposed following the running of the previous race and no suitable replacement was available. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful placed prior to 2:55pm:16 cents in the dollar for the win14 cents in the dollar for the place STAY SAFE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. BARCLAY’S BANK – Began awkwardly. HERE HE LOOMS – Raced in restricted room rounding the home-turn. Race 6: SHEPPARD FAMILY MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1800m) DIVINE COURAGE – Stewards permitted Rider N. Fazackerley to be declared the replacement rider when Apprentice Olzard was indisposed and no suitable apprentice was available. Slow to begin. Rider N. Fazackerley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. YANGARI – Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1200m. MADALASA – Began awkwardly. Obliged to shift out and around from the heels of DIVINE COURAGE approaching the 200m to obtain clear running. AGRIMONY (GB) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
