1st: Dazzluna 2nd: Notabitofwhite 3rd: Dragon Sign 4th: I See Romance

EDITORIALE was declared a late scratching at 10:03am on vet’s advice. Trainer Julie Atkinson was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to his next start.

As jockey A Merritt was ill, F Edwards was substituted as the rider of KOOLKUNA BABE. Jockey A Merritt was advised that he would have to produce a medical certificate prior to his next race meeting.

KOOLKUNA BABE [F Edwards] was slow to begin.

GEESIX [E Ljung] was slow into stride.

KOOLKUNA BABE [F Edwards] raced wide in the middle stages.

Approaching the 400m mark, I SEE ROMANCE [N Bin Yadi] had to be checked when NOTABITOFWHITE [S Pawsey] dropped the bit.

Jockey S Pawsey was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip throughout the race on NOTABITOFWHITE.

Race 2: Colour Studio Maiden Plate 1210m
1st: Monaco Vale 2nd: La Lionesse 3rd: Save The Planet 4th: Clifford John

ELAINE’S REWARD was declared a late scratching at 11:50am when it was unable to be loaded onto the float.

Stewards questioned S Pawsey regarding the change of tactics on CLIFFORD JOHN, where it raced back in contrast to its customary forward position. Jockey Pawsey stated that the gelding raced flat and was looking for further ground. His explanation was noted.

MONACO VALE [I Toward] and SAVE THE PLANET [R Ryan] bumped on jumping.

Apprentice E Ljung was questioned as to the racing manners of RUNABOUT. App E Ljung stated that approaching the 400m mark when her mount lost contact with the leader, the horse dropped the bit and raced extremely green and ungenerous and as a result proved most difficult to ride.
Race 3: Mareeba Mazda Class B Handicap 1210m
1st: Staunch North 2nd: So Dotti 3rd: Tuppeny’s Opinion 4th: Alexander Parade

CARAVAN SANG was declared a late scratching when it was injured on route to the course. Trainer P Ryan was advised that the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next start.

Jockey R Ryan was the replacement rider for STAUNCH NORTH when A Merritt was ill.

ALLOVER [E Ljung] was extremely slow to begin.

Approaching the 300m mark, ALLOVER [E Ljung] had to be checked when taking a run to the inside of HUSSELING [I Toward] that was not wide enough. Apprentice E Ljung was advised in similar circumstances to dictate a course to the outside of runners when there is insufficient room.

Race 4: Cairns Jockey Club Inc Open Handicap 1210m
1st: Canhedance 2nd: Cyclone Larry 3rd: Camphor 4th: Bar Attack

At the 800m mark, BAR ATTACK [S Kaya] shifted out and bumped CYCLONE LARRY [W D’Avila].

Jockey W D’Avila reported that his horse wanted to race greenly for the entirety of the straight.

Stewards questioned jockey S Kaya in relation to his ride on BAR ATTACK. Jockey Kaya stated that the instructions were to gain cover and not to lead. He further stated that he was surprised upon jumping when the horse showed pace and as a result he elected to ease the gelding which resulted in him racing fiercely and bumping CYCLONE LARRY [W D’Avila] at the 800m mark. Stewards noted the explanation but nonetheless reminded jockey Kaya that whilst it is important to carry out instructions, it is more critical to ensure the horse does not pose a danger to himself or any other horse and rider and keep the horse relaxed.

Race 5: Tablelands Regional Council Class 3 Plate 1010m
1st: Blame Game 2nd: Fortrus Lad 3rd: Play A King 4th: Prowler

Apprentice N Bin Yadi was the replacement rider for PLAY A KING when A Merritt was ill and no suitable rider was available.
