General
Due to circumstances beyond the Mareeba Turf Club’s control the 2000m chute was rendered unusable for today’s race meeting necessitating a reduction in distance of Race 5 the Mareeba Cup Benchmark 65 Handicap from 2000m to 1800m.
Race 1 – WAYNE LAVERTY QUALITY SHEDS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1123m
Zulu Jet – Reluctant to load. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr F Wieland was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
Instinction Lass – Slow to begin.
Simple Melody - Slow to begin.
Cortesta - Shifted wider near the 500m and continued to race wide from that point.
Cool Attitude – Shifted wider near the 500m and continued to race wide from that point. Laid out rounding the home turn.
Kensington Fury – Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung in over the concluding stages.
Race 2 – PETER BRAITHWAITE PAINTING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 900m

Stella Effort - Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Roth’n’Bell – Unable to muster early pace.
Yalanji – Raced wide for the majority.
Wee Willie Mac – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
The Bee’s Knees – Raced wide throughout.
Race 3 – SONLIA FASHIONS CLASS B HANDICAP 1210m
Elite Label - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
Ziegelbauer – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4 – GRAHAM HOTEL MAREEBA BRACELET BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1210m
 
Amuleto was a late withdrawal at 2.15pm by order of Stewards acting on veterinary advice after being found to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr A Malliff was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race. As betting had not commenced on the event no deductions were applicable.
 
Make Amends – The gelding having raced at Townsville on Thursday Sepetmber 7, 2019 underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. Bumped by another runner on jumping. Lost near hind plate passing the 1000m.
 
Rothesay Magic - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
Strong Will – Bumped with another runner after beginning awkwardly.
Sweet Taste – Restrained on several occasions in the middle stages when attempting to improve into a marginal run.
Race 5 – PIMS PUMPING IRRIGATION & MACHINERY SERIVCES MAREEBA CUP BENCHMARK
65 HANDICAP 1800m
 
I’m Not Sure – Slow to begin. Had to be restrained near the 1700m when tightened by aother runner which shifted in when not fully clear. Shifted wider in order to improve leaving the 800m.
 
Super Mario – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
Gunga Galunga – Shifted in near the 1700m tightening another runner which had to be restrained. Jockey M Elliott was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a).
Blundered after clipping the heels of a tiring runner near the 400m.
 
Celestial Jewel – Hampered when racing in restricted room near the 350m.
 
Inverness Express - Shifted wider in order to improve leaving the 800m.
 
Luvya Beak – Hampered when racing in restricted room rounding the home turn.
 
Hatz Son – Compounded leaving the 450m hampering other runners. Finished tailed off.
