QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MAREEBA TURF CLUB INC. SATURDAY 3 SEPTEMBER 2022 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – SOFT 6 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. Brady SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: CAIRNS SATURDAY 27.08.2022 Race 8 RED BERET HOTEL CAIRNS CUP 2100 MetresLOUIS JANUARY – Trainer J. Wehlow advised stewards that following the gelding’s poor performance, further veterinary examinations and blood tests had been conducted which revealed no concerns and that LOUIS JANUARY had pleased him in the past week following the run. Mr Wehlow further advised that whilst he was at a loss to explain the poor performance he would continue with the gelding’s current preparation. GENERAL: The following riders were permitted to ride overweight:Race 1 – S. Pawsey (Cody’s Boy) + .50kgRace 3 – J. Baker (Enuff Roses) + 1kgRace 5 – S. Pawsey (Roshan) + 1kg Race 1: MAREEBA MAZDA QTIS MAIDEN PLATE– 900 Metres CODY’S BOY – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load. Slow to begin. MISS BOSSY – Delayed the start further when fractious in the barriers prior to the start causing its front barrier gates to open. VANCOUVER LIGHTS – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have pulled up in a distressed state. After being quickly attended to by the veterinary surgeon VANCOUVER LIGHTS responded well to treatment. DREAM LUV – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race. TEMPS DU LOUVRE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have bled from both nostrils. As this is the second occasion on which TEMPS DU LOUVRE has bled, it will now incur a lifetime ban from racing. AR79(6) Race 2: 2022 PRESIDENT'S BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1123 Metres Following the running of this race stewards delayed correct weight to determine if all runners had been afforded a fair start and if the starter had officially started the race. After hearing evidence from riders, trainers and the starter Mr B. Brady, it was established that the starter did not start the race and the barriers opened prematurely resulting in a number of runners being disadvantaged. Acting under the provisions of AR205 the race was declared void and all monies invested on the race were ordered to be refunded. As a result of this incident jockey S. Wilson (SAINT NO MORE) was dislodged and transported to Mareeba hospital for further observation after sustaining an injury to his left ankle. Apprentice jockey R. Shred struck her head on the upper barrier petition when her mount (LET’S CONQUER) reared as the start was effected. Ms Shred was also transported to Mareeba hospital for further observation Riding replacements were made as per steward’s summary. A post-race veterinary examination of LET’S CONQUER revealed the gelding to be in a distressed state. After being quickly attended to by the veterinary surgeon the gelding responded well to treatment. All following races were manually started and tested prior to the start. Race 3: GRAHAM HOTEL 2022 MAREEBA BRACELET BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1210Metres PURPOSFUL MISS – Slow to begin. CAPTIVATED – Slow to begin. CAIERON – Slow to begin. Checked near the 100 metres when attempting a doubtful run between COOL ATTITUDE and BELLEVITA. ANTIQUE LACE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race. BELLEVITA – Raced wide for the majority of the race. ENUFF ROSES – On pulling up, rider J. Baker dismounted and was attended to by the QAS suffering a suspected case of asthma. Acting under the provisions of AR21(d) Stewards stood jockey Baker down from his remaining rides for the day. Race 4: WAYNE LAVERTY QUALITY SHEDS CLASS B HANDICAP – 1500 Metres MAHISARA LADY – Was declared a late scratching at 12.10pm due to transportation difficulties. DUBAI MOON – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Race 5: PIMS MAREEBA CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 2000 Metres SIZZLING SUN – Was declared a late scratching at 12.10pm after becoming cast in the float during transportation to the racetrack. Trainer N. Nelson was advised she must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for the mare prior to its next start or trial. NECESSITAS(NZ) – Restrained when over-racing near the 1600 metres when crowded for room by ROSHAN which shifted in. S. Pawsey (ROSHAN) was reprimanded. Became fractious in the tie-up stalls post-race and following a veterinary examination was found to have injured its it off hind leg, Trainer A. Malliff was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to its next race start or trial. TICTOC TICTOC – Compounded over the concluding stages.
