MOUNT ISA RACE CLUB – SATURDAY 8th JULY 2017

WEATHER – OVERCAST         TRACK RATING – SAND          RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION

OFFICIALS
Stewards – P Lane, R Smith
Starter – S Hartnett
Clerk of Scales – Stewards
Judge – L Winks
Veterinarian – Dr M Parsons (North West Veterinary Clinic)
Swab Attendant – Veterinarian

GENERAL

Jockeys A Spradau and Ms. T Tincknell  who were both unable to attend today’s race meeting due to illness were advised that they would be required to provide medical clearances prior to returning to race riding. Replacements were made as per Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1450m:

MOSPORT – Slowly away. Raced wide in the middle stages.

DIURNAL TIGER – Raced wide without cover for the majority. Laid in under pressure down the running.

Due to a malfunction with the photo-finish equipment, Stewards, after conferring with Official Judge Mrs. J Anderson and Assistant Judge Ms. L Winks, and acting under the provisions of AR154, declared Correct Weight on the numbers 3,4,5,2 and 1, which were those recorded by both Officials as the field crossed the finishing line.

Race 2: RENEW MEMBERSHIP ONLINE NOW HANDICAP 1450m:

NIGHT WOLF – Fractious in the barriers.

FORTZA – Over-raced in the middle stages after being crossed by another runner.

AVALANCHES – Trailed the field throughout. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned in relation to the performance of TRAVEL IN STYLE Jockey D Ballard stated that although, jn his opinion, the gelding had not been disappointing, nonetheless it had been unable to sprint quickly under its heavy impost in today’s event.

When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance of NITE WOLF, Trainer’s Representative Ms. T Rafter advised that the gelding which was having its 3rd start in the region had taken a little time to adjust to racing on the non-grass surfaces, but had been pleasing the stable in the lead-up to today’s event. Ms. Rafter was also of the opinion that although up in class the gelding had benefitted from the significant drop in weight in comparison that carried at its previous 2 starts.

Race 3: BROWN BROTHERS PLATE 1000m:

ALL FIVES - Raced wide for the majority.

CARRY ME – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages, losing ground due to resenting kick-back.

LE CAP – Jockey S Galvin reported that the gelding was inclined to race ungenerously throughout, proving difficult to ride. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4: NOT LONG TILL CNW MAILMAN EXPRESS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000m:

BATON ROUGE and EXTRA which were both resuming following prolonged absences from racing underwent pre-race Veterinary examinations and were passed fit to start.

CALABAH FLAME – Inconvenienced when crowded between runners soon after jumping.

Race 5: STEEJO PRESS 0-70 HANDICAP 1200m:

HAPPY SHOPPO – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

NORTHERN STORM - Bumped with another runner on jumping.

NOVEMBER GREY – Unable to muster early pace.

BUSH LAWYER – Jockey K Ballard advised that the gelding which had run an improved race after performing poorly at its 3 most recent starts had, in his opinion “switched off” and shifted ground outwards rounding the home turn taking NORTHERN STORM wider on the track.
