Stewards today inquired into trainer D. Sanderson over the handling and care of the thoroughbred mare SHOO FLY SHOO, between the dates of 22 June 2018 and 17 July 2018 after the mare had injured its off hind leg. After considering all evidence, veterinary reports and submission from Ms Sanderson, Ms Sanderson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(o) (ii) which reads:

AR175. The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise;
Any person in charge of a horse who in their opinion fails at any time:
(o)(ii) to provide veterinary treatment where such treatment is necessary for the horse.

In considering penalty, Stewards took into account Ms Sanderson’s long and unblemished record over a long period of time, her remorsefulness and subsequent care of the horse and as such suspended Ms Sanderson’s licence to train for a period of 12 months to commence immediately and to expire midnight 8 December 2019. Ms Sanderson was advised of right to review.

Following the running of Race 7, Stewards opened an inquiry into a verbal altercation, which took place in the betting ring and the conduct of licensed bookmaker Mr C. Perkins. After hearing statements from all parties, Mr Perkins pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(q) in that he did use abusive language towards a bettor in the betting ring. Mr Perkins was fined the sum of $200.00.
