QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MOUNT ISA RACE CLUB MOUNT ISA – Saturday 05/09/2020 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Sand/Dirt RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – D Lane Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – L WinksVeterinarian & SCO – Dr K StrettonStarter – M Cummings Race 1: Floorworx Australia Benchmark 50 Handicap (1450m) SYD’S COIN- Trainer G Tipping advised that, should circumstances permit, the gelding would be ridden more positively than in its recent starts. This was advertised via on course announcement. Dwelt in the gates and was slow into stride loosing significant ground. Raced wide throughout. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Tipping was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners as a result. SIZZLING SUN- Began awkwardly. EXPLOSIVE MISSILE- On returning to scale Jockey J Felix advised that approaching the 600m he was obliged to steady his mount and shift wider after the gelding became resentful of the sand kickback. FIRE RANGER- Raced wide throughout. SINGLE STORY- Raced wide throughout. KING LANDON- Raced wide throughout. Race 2: JKR Painting Class B Handicap (1200m) MAKING SHADOWS- Bumped with another runner on jumping. After beginning on terms with the field failed to muster the early speed required to maintain its position and subsequently tailed the field throughout before finishing off well. On returning to scale Jockey Esser advised that the gelding resented the kickback and failed to respond to his riding in the early stages and as such he elected to shift wider to obtain clear running. Jockey Esser added that after trailing the field by a considerable distance he elected to shift his mount in from its wide position in an effort to improve and once along the inside running rail and free of kickback the gelding responded to his riding and finished off well summating that, in his opinion, the gelding would be better suited to races over further distances. Trainer S Royes concurred with Jockey Essers assessment. BOOTS’N’AWE- Slow to begin. Jockey K Ballard was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he did use his whip in an excessive manner (15 times) throughout the event. TIME FOR US- Bumped with another runner on jumping. IMA POCKET ROCKET- Raced wide throughout. On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from the left side nostril in running. Trainer G Tipping was advised that under the provisions of AR79(8) the gelding would be required to gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor rate of recovery. Trainer G Tipping advised of his intention to now retire the gelding. HICKSON- Raced wide throughout. DEADLY DAY- Jockey D Ballard was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he did use his whip in an excessive manner (15 times) throughout the event. Race 3: GJB Plumbing Class 3 Plate (1000m) BELAR BLUE- Raced wide throughout. TOFU MICK- On returning to scale Jockey T Hill advised that the gelding put in several awkward strides approaching the 600m turn when racing in restricted room. SIN TAN- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. SERIOUSLY HAPPY- Jockey T Brummell was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) in that he did use his whip in a consecutive manner (4 times) prior to the 100m. Jockey Brummell was advised of his right to an internal review. Declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey J Babarovich, rider of 3rd place getter HUNTING, lodged an objection again 1st place getter SIN TAN (N Nelson) alleging interference near the 700m. After hearing submissions from the riders and connections of the two runners, viewing the patrol footage and considering the matter further, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered by HUNTING exceeded the beaten margin of two (2) lengths and as such dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey Nelson pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 700m she did fail to exercise sufficient effort and permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HUNTING (J Babarovich) causing that runner to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Nelsons license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 05/09/2020 up to and including 16/09/2020. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jockey Nelsons recent record in relation to the rule, her guilty plea, the racing manners of SIN TAN which had been inclined to lay in marginally and the degree of interference which was considered to be in the high end of low range. Jockey Nelson was advised of her right to an internal review. Race 4: Mikkelson Electrical Maiden Plate (1100m) SHIVKHANI- Shifted out abruptly on jumping bumping heavily with another runner and continued to lay out for a short distance despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer D Ballard was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. OUR MARIE- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. ISA PRINCESS- Began awkwardly. GOOD TO DREAM- Raced wide throughout. ‘ MATCH FOX- Performed disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards noted the explanation and advised Trainer T Parry that the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
