QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MOUNT ISA RACE CLUB MOUNT ISA SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – D. GriffithsStewards – S CoplandClerk of Scales – StewardsJudge – L Finlay & L WinksVeterinarian – K Thompson Swab Attendant- K Thompson Starter – M Cummins General: Due to an electrical problem the Starting Signal “red light” on the barriers was inoperable for the meeting. Scratchings: Race 1 - STRETCHING , Race 2 – ART THIEF Race 3 – SNEAKY TRUTHS Race 5 - BROOK’S GIRL, FALVELON SKY The following horses were late scratchings at 11.55 a.m due to no available riders -: Race 3- METEORANO , SNEAKY TRUTHS, SEVEN YEAR REWARDRace 4 – RAPID REWARDRace 6 – FUDGINIT (Late Scratching 4.00 p.m) when Jockey J Felix was unable to ride the gelding and no other rider was available.Race 8- GUMNUTS, MADONNA FALLS, DREAM HALORace 8 -PRESTISSIMO was a late scratching at 4.08 p.m. when Jockey J Felix was unable to ride the gelding and no other rider was available. Race 1: OPEN HANDICAP 1450M Due to an electrical problem the Starting Signal “red light” on the barriers was inoperable for the meeting. TOO HOT TO HOLD was slow to begin. ILLECEBROUS raced wide throughout. Race 2: BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1450M FINGERTIPS was inspected behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. Raced wide until the 550 metres. MYOLA MILLY – Raced wide. RIVERSIDE BLUES – Raced wide for the majority of the race. WILD EXPRESS – Jumped outwards at the start checking RIVERSIDE BLUES. Race 3: BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000M Late changes of riders on CRAIGLEA ALTONA (D BALLARD), HI ZERO (A.GRAHAM) were approved. SHOOT BIG – Was difficult to load and delayed the start. A warning was issued regarding the same. Slow into stride. SANCHEZ – Slow to begin. MISHANI HURRICANE – Shifted wide making the home turn. Race 4: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1) 1100M SINGLE MALT – Jockey D BALLARD was permitted to ride the gelding 1.5kg over the allotted weight due to no other available rider. LET’S RUNAWAY – Was difficult to load and slow to begin. Jockey J Felix was questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on the mare and in particular his tactics from the 700 metres onwards. Jockey Felix advised that LET’S RUNAWAY was slow into stride and tailed the field in the early stages. He advised that the mare then picked up the bit and commenced to run on making the home turn. Jockey Felix advised that he was suffering from fatigue, and this had affected the amount of vigour he displayed over the final 300 metres. The explanation of Jockey J Felix was noted however he was reminded of the provisions of AR129 (2) which states that “A rider must take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race ensure that his horse is given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field.” LET’ S RUNAWAY was inspected by the Club Veterinary Surgeon post-race who reported that the mare was suffering atrial fibrillation and exhaustion and that medication and cooling treatment on course were implemented. Trainer M Lewis advised that he would not be continuing with the mare’s preparation. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required before LET’S RUNAWAY is permitted to race again. Trainer M Lewis advised that he would not be continuing with the mare’s preparation. Following this event, Jockey J. Felix underwent an examination by the Ambulance personnel who advised that he was suffering heat stress and exhaustion and Jockey J Felix advised that he was unable to continue riding at the meeting. A medical clearance will be required before Jockey J Felix again rides. Race 5: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (2) 1100MJockey J Felix was replaced on LE BERNADIN by Jockey (N YADI). No racing incidents. Race 6: CLASS 6 PLATE 1100M FUDGINIT who was to be ridden by J Felix was a late scratching at 4.00 p.m. when no other rider was available. ROCKETHEAD was slow to begin. FAVRA, SCARPA and COUNT MICHELIN all raced wide throughout. Race 7: OPEN HANDICAP 1200M Jockey D Smith replaced Jockey J Felix on LUCKY MACHU. It was noted that the saddle on LUCKY MACHU was shifted back on jumping due to the barrier blanket worn by the gelding. LUCKY MACHU raced wide throughout. Race 8: BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200M PRESTISSIMO was a late scratching at 4.08 p.m. when Jockey J Felix was unable to ride the gelding and no other rider was available. The start was delayed due to STROKE OF MAGIC refusing to load. STROKE OF MAGIC was declared a late scratching at 5.40 p.m. and The following deductions were applied. 24 cents in the dollar for the win 17 cents in the dollar for the place of winner 12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place 5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer J Bawden was advised that he will be required to obtain a Barrier Certificate for STROKE OF MAGIC before the mare is permitted to race again. ZOUWEST dwelt in the barriers and lost ground.ROCKSTAR DREAMS – Became unbalanced and shifted in at the 1000 metres bumping CHRISTMAS CREEK.
