GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following rider overweights:
 
Race 1: 5 ZUMIKON - T. Hill + 0.5kg
Race 2: ONTHETAKE – T. Hill + 0.5kg
 
 
Race 1: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS Open Handicap 1000 metres
 
HAN DYNASTY – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
WICKED WIKI – Raced three wide without cover for the majority.
 
THERESABEARINTHERE – Raced four wide during the middle stages. Jockey J. Baker reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding felt awkward in its action and hung out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
 
CATO – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. Approaching the 50 m was obliged to ease off the heels of HAN DYNASTY who laid in over the concluding stages. Apprentice T. Leslight was reminded of his obligations to take greater care to ensure his mount does not shift ground. 
 
ZUMIKON – Raced five wide throughout.
 
 
Race 2: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS Benchmark 65 Handicap 1450 metres
 
ZOOMARATTA – Awkward to begin and shifted in tightening BARRICHELLO when STAMPEDE WARRIOR simultaneously shifted out. Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
BARRICHELLO – Tightened at the start when ZOOMARATTA shifted out as STAMPEDE WARRIOR shifted in. Raced wide without cover during the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
 
STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Blundered on jumping and shifted out, tightening BARRICHELLO when ZOOMARATTA simultaneously shifted in.  Apprentice T. Leslight was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
ONTHETAKE – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
Race 3: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
HIMSELF – Laid in rounding the home turn. Weakened and continued to lay in down the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small abrasion in the gelding’s right nostril.
 
ROUGH EDGES – Awkward to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
SINGLE MALT – Declared a late scratching at 11.43 am by order of the Stewards. Trainer T. Parry was fined $200 pursuant to LR68(1) for failing to scratch SINGLE MALT, within the prescribed time.
SUNVALLEY DREAMING – Raced wide without cover for the majority. Approaching the 300m, hung in and was obliged to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROUGH EDGES and consequently elected to shift out to gain clear running.
 
GIVE IT BEANS – Slow to begin. Raced wide during the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
Race 4: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS Benchmark 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
NOT ANOTHER REIBY – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with MERSEY GIRL. Raced wide without cover for the majority. In the vicinity of the 300m had to be checked and was severely tightened for running room when THE BROTHERHOOD continued to lay in and carried NOT ANOTHER REIBY in onto MERSEY GIRL who also had be checked.
 
DUNNERS – Declared a late scratching at 12:10 pm on veterinary advice after being found to be lame in the off hindleg. Trainer R. Burow was advised that DUNNERS will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
LUCKY MACHU – Slow to begin and as a result failed to muster any early speed.
 
 
THE BROTHERHOOD – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in rounding the home turn. In the vicinity of the 300m continued to lay in, taking NOT ANOTHER REIBY in onto MERSEY GIRL who contacted the rail for a number of strides and as a result both runners had to be checked.  Inside the 100m, shifted in again and as a result NOT ANOTHER REIBY was obliged to momentarily steadied to avoid heels.
 
DOOM – Awkward to begin.
 
LOUIE THE LEGEND – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MERSEY GIRL – Crowded at the start when CRAIGLEA ALTONA shifted out and NOT ANOTHER REIBY shifted in. In the vicinity of the 300m, was obliged to be checked and made contact with the inside running rail for a number of strides when NOT ANOTHER REIBY was taken in by THE BROTHERHOOD. Apprentice S. McCann pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NOT ANOTHER REIBY who had to be checked and was then taken in onto MERSEY GIRL which had to be severely checked and contacted the inside running rail for a number of strides. Apprentice S. McCanns’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight the15 th1 of July and to expire midnight the 25th of July. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.
CRAIGLEA ALTONA – Awkward to begin and shifted out bumping with MERSEY GIRL.
 
Race 5: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS Benchmark 45 Handicap 1200 metres
 
LOGOMANIA – Difficult to load. Trainer J. Morris was advised that a warning had been placed on gelding in relation to its barrier manners.  Raced wide without cover for the majority. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Apprentice S. McCann stated that in her opinion LOGOMANIA resented the wide barrier, the allotted weight and the kickback in today’s event. When asked to comment, Trainer J. Morris could offer no explanation for the disappointing performanceof the gelding in today’s event. A post-race veterinary report revealed no visible abnormalities.
 
NASA – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
FLYING ARION – Stood flat footed and missed the start.
 
TABOO – Awkward and slow to begin. Raced wide over the early and middle stages.
 
COLONEL VON TRAPP – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 6: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS Ratings Band 0-50 Handicap 1450 metres
 
STROKE OF MAGIC – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
 
AKHURST – Raced four wide without cover during the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the off hindleg.
 
FLYING EUROS – Slow to begin. Raced wide during the middle stages.
 
IRON MASK – Raced wide without cover throughout. Inclined to lay in in the straight.
 
Race 7: CNW ELECTRICAL WHOLESALERS QTIS Class 3 Plate 1100 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey D. Ballard the rider of SIZZLING SONATA to view the photo finish for 1st place.
 
Correct weight was further delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol footage of the start to ascertain if RUSTY ROSE had been denied a fair start. After reviewing the footage and taking evidence from the Starter and Apprentice S. McCann, Stewards declared RUSTY ROSE a non-runner as the mare had been denied a fair start. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.
 
MISHANI HURRICANE – Became fractious enroute to the barriers and dislodged Jockey M Gray behind the barriers before being quickly recaptured.. A pre-race veterinary examination then cleared the gelding to start.. Trainer J. Bawden was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding in relation to its pre-race manners. Raced wide throughout.
 
SIZZLING SONATA – Raced wide without cover during the early and middle stages.
 
WHISPERING TYCOON – Awkward to begin.
 
ALL AT SEA – Laid in severely in the straight.
 
RUSTY ROSE – Declared a non-runner at 5:25pm as the mare had been denied a fair start.
 
CARDANO – Permission was granted for Apprentice T. Leslight to only claim 1.5kg of his full 2kg allowance.
 
DOMINANT ROSE – Raced wide without cover for the majority.
