GENERAL

Race 1: CNW SIMON BAYNES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1450 metres

BARRICHELLO – Jockey J Babarovich was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BARRICHELLO and reported that the gelding slipped on jumping. He advised that gelding failed to stretch out after this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed BARICHELLO with a poor recovery rate and to be lame in the near side front leg. A veterinary certificate of fitness will need to be supplied prior to the geldings next race start.

STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Slow to begin. Passing the 700m had to steady from the heels of SIZZLING SONATA. Apprentice Jockey T Leslight was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more then permitted.

SIZZLING SONATA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Shifted in at the 700m causing a tightening. Jockey D Ballard (SIZZLING SONATA) was advised to exercise care when crossing.

STAR OF LEON - Hampered at the 700m.

Race 2: CNW ELECTRICAL Maiden Plate 1000 metres

PHILADELPHIA FREE – Trainer J.Bawden was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Bumped with SUNVALLEY DREAMING on jumping. Jockey J Baker reported upon returning to scale that he believed his mount was showing signs of lameness over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SUNVALLEY DREAMING – Bumped with PHILADELPHIA FREE on jumping. Resented kickback passing the 800m and commenced to race awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

LULLA’S ATTACK – Slow into stride.

Race 3: CNW BRIAN WEBB OPEN Handicap 1000 metres

Stewards considered an objection lodged by rider T Hill, the rider of ZUMIKON which finished second against Apprentice B Moffat (HANS DYNASTY) being declared the winner on the grounds of interference at the 750 metres. It was established that passing the 750m, HAN DYNASTY commenced to shift in marginally momentarily tightening POSITIVE TENSION, resulting in jockey T Hill (ZUMIKON) which was trailing having to momentarily steady his mount. In considering the evidence, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that ZUMIKON would have finished in front of HAN DYNASTY, and consequently dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judges’ semaphored numbers. Jockey T Hill was advised that his protest bordered on being frivolous and he was reminded of his obligation under AR219 (5).

HAN DYNASTY – Approaching the 750m, shifted in and momentarily tightened POSITIVE TENSION. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

WICKED WIKI – Blundered on jumping and shortly after collided with FAB’S COWBOY.

FULL OF FIRE – Jumped awkwardly taking FAB’S COWBOY out onto WICKED WIKI. Approaching the 150m, was checked and was taken in onto FAB’s COWBOY by WICKED WIKI. Jockey D Ballard (WICKED WIKI) pleaded guilty to AR131(a) by allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear and his jockeys licence was suspended for a period of 8 days beginning at midnight on 19 August to expire at midnight on 27 August.

POSITIVE TENSION – Raced in restricted room at the 750m.

FAB’S COWBOY – Hampered and raced in restricted room at the 150m.

Race 4: TEAM CNW MT ISA CLASSIC QTIS Class 1 Handicap 1000 metres

CAMPEEDO – Raced wide for the majority.

FIELDS OF RED – Trainer J.Bawden was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Blundered upon jumping.

MISS BOUCHARD – Blundered upon jumping. First race start since returning from a spell and tired finishing a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Parry was advised not to start the mare until she was satisfied MISS BOUCHARD would be competitive.

REAL EMPRESS – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. When struck with the whip at the 150m, REAL EMPRESS shifted in abruptly and had to be steadied.

MAHIGRANT – A post-race veterinary examination found no abnormalities.

Race 5: CNW JOHN WEBB Class 6 Plate 1200 metres

LE FORCE – Raced wide for the majority. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LE FORCE, jockey D Ballard advised that the gelding begun only fairly then failed to muster early speed and was always under pressure. He further stated that he elected to race wider on the track to avoid kickback however LE FORCE was never travelling kindly and appeared flat. The explanation was noted by stewards and the gelding was sent for a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow recovery rate due to fatigue and was subsequently swabbed. Trainer J Morris who was not on course, was contacted by Stewards and advised that he would consider sending LE FORCE for a spell. Mr Morris was advised to update Stewards further after he had an opportunity to assess LE FORCE.

KARBORS – When questioned upon the improved performance of KARBORS in winning todays event in comparison to the geldings previous start at Muttaburra on 5 August 2023 when beaten 12 lengths, trainer B Johnson advised that he was disappointed in the riding tactics adopted on the gelding’ on that occasion and had changed riders in today’s event. He advised that at the horse’s previous start, KARBORS was initially ridden on the pace but appeared to lose its position in the middle stages and he today advised jockey D Graham to ride the horse in a forward position and was confident in the horses’ chances in today’s event. This explanation was noted by stewards.

MOON OVER ALICE – Blundered upon jumping.

VILLA TINTO – Slow into stride.

Race 6: CNW CHAIRMANS 11 GOLD CUP BENCHMARK 45 Handicap 1200 metres

METAL BAR – When arriving to the barriers underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Blundered on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages.

Once stabilised, the apprentice was transported to hospital by ambulance for further assessment and will require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.
