QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MOUNT ISA RACE CLUB MOUNT ISA SATURDAY 19th AUGUST 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Dirt RAIL – True Entire Course OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – S. CoulthardStewards – D Griffiths, C Brew Clerk of Scales – StewardsJudges – L Winks, L FinlayVeterinarian – N McKinon Starter – M. Cummins Race 1: CLASS B Handicap 1000 metres ZOUFIRE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CHAIN OF FIRE – Performed below expectations. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Jockey J Babarovich advised that in his opinion the gelding resented the kick back and didn’t respond to hisriding when asked. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GREAT IAM – Stewards permitted Jockey D Ballard to ride 1.5kg overweight as there were no other suitable riders available. HAVEABEERFORTED – Performed below expectations, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. STORMWATER- Stewards permitted Jockey J Baker to ride 2kg overweight as there were no other suitable riders available. Slightly blundered soon after start. Raced three wide without cover for the majority. Race 2: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1000 metres SCARPA- Raced ungenerously during the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. MISHANI HURRICANE- On return to scale Jockey J Baker advised the gelding’s action felt awkward, was laying out from the 400m and wasn’t fully tested to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BELLEOFTHEHUNTER - Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Approaching the 700m shifted four wide to avoid kickback. On returning to scale, Jockey J Hoopert advised the mare had got her tongue over the bit. Race 3: OPEN Handicap 1450 metres STROKE OF MAGIC – Stewards permitted Jockey J Baker to ride 2kg overweight as there were no other riders available. Slow to begin. Trailed the field for the majority. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. FACTORY WARRIOR- Jumped awkwardly. Raced three wide for the majority. VIGOROUS FLOW – Jumped awkwardly. Raced four wide without cover for the majority. Stewards permitted 0.50kg overweight. ZOOMARATTA- Fractious in barriers prior to start. MOPAR- Passing the 250m became awkwardly placed between runners and shifted in to improve. ALBERT THE ROCKET – Raced wide early. Race 4: QTIS Maiden Plate 1200 metres DON’TSTOPLAUGHING- Bumped at the start and lost ground. Jockey D Sparks was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted prior to the 100m. ADASHAN- Began awkwardly, as a result shifted in and bumped DON’TSTOPLAUGHING. CRACKLE CAUSE – Jumped awkwardly.Performed below expectations. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GULF OF AQABA- Raced wide for the majority. ORCUS- Stewards permitted Jockey D Ballard to ride 1.5kg overweight as there were no other riders available. Race 5: BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1200 metres MAKUBA- Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and subsequently began awkwardly. DIDN’T ASK ME- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey J Baker advised the gelding failed to handle the track surface early on but once on the bit at the 600m the gelding responded to his riding and finished well. CRAIGLEA ALTONA- Raced three wide throughout.
