As the Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast temperature for today’s meeting was 38 degrees, the QRIC, Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat Policy was activated.
 
The following horses were declared a late scratching at 12:00pm due to no rider being available:
Race 3 – CHASETON
Race 5 – SEIRYU; MONTREUX; and JAKAZONE.
 
 
 
Race 1: BROTHERS IN ARMS BOXING – MAIDEN PLATE           900 M
 
GROOVE CITY – began awkwardly, briefly unbalancing rider Brooke Stower; travelled wide throughout.
 
CHARGRILL – travelled wide throughout.
 
OHMIKKIUSOFINE – travelled wide throughout.
 
AZCONPETE – fractious in the barriers prior to release.
 
SAXON TIME – slow to muster in the early stages and settled back; rider David Sparks reported that the mare had resented the kick-back.
 
 
Race 2: VALE ERICA JESSUP CLASS B HANDICAP           900 M
 
DEVILISH DANCER – hung out entering the first turn and ran wide proving difficult to control – trainer Holly-Marie Robertson was advised that a warning had been placed on the mare’s racing manners.
 
ROOM FOR SQUARES – slow to jump; when questioned regarding the run of the well supported ROOM FOR SQUARES rider Matthew Gray reported that after jumping fairly the gelding had struggled to recover any ground until after passing the 600 metres when it then made ground through to the finish.
 
 
 
Race 3: CITY COUNTRY REALITY QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP   900 M
 
FABULOUS HOFFA – began awkwardly and shifted in bumping with OUR BENEFIT which in consequence shifted in and bumped with INALA ATICUS which was buffeted and raced in restricted room for a short distance; travelled wide throughout.
 
OUR BENEFIT – bumped at the start and taken inward onto INALA ATICUS.
 
INALA ATICUS – buffeted and raced in restricted room in the early stages.
 
BITTERGREYMAGIC – travelled wide throughout.
 
SNIPILLICIOUS - laid out shortly after leaving the barriers crowding INALA ATICU for a short distance; went off-stride when attempting to jump the kick-back near the 700 metres; rider Nor Yadi reported that the gelding had proved difficult to control during the running.
 
WELLOUTOFREACH – travelled wide on the pace throughout.
 
 
 
Race 4: KENLACH TRANSPORT OPEN PLATE       1,000 M
 
JETSKI – jumped out at the start.
 
THE TYLER – travelled wide throughout.
 
JUST STOP IT – hampered rounding the final turn when outside CASINO LORD which shifted out.
 
CASINO LORD – shifted out rounding the final turn hampering JUST STOP IT - rider James Baker was advised to exercise care when shifting ground.
 
ILZOOMYA - Stewards noted rider David Sparks exceeded the number permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
 
 
 
Race 5: RCT BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP     1,100 M
 
DUCHESS OF MILAN – rider Michael McDonald reported that the mare had struggled in the holding nature of today’s track.
 
ZOUHOPE – slow to muster in the early stages.
 
SHOALWATER BAY – began awkwardly and lost ground in the early stages and struggled to recover any ground until passing the 600 metres; rider Matthew Gray reported that the gelding had struggled through the kick-back after being slow away, with proving detrimental to his chances.
