Race 1: Bechly’s Transport Mdn Plt – 800m
1st – I’ll Belt Ya 2nd – Earl’s Girl 3rd – Lady Oscar 4th – Sansira
Jockey A. Coome was incorrectly recorded as the rider of I’LL BELT YA, trainer M. Jeynes notified stewards of the error at 11:20am, and I. Coombes was permitted to ride the gelding.
The start of this race was delayed due to the late arrival on course of apprentice M. O’Brien, who was booked to ride EARL’S GIRL. Stewards acceded to a request from trainer B. Robinson to replace her with senior rider S. Apthorpe due to there being only relatively inexperienced apprentices available. Apprentice O’Brien was issued with a reprimand for failing to fulfil her engagement, in assessing penalty stewards took into account traffic difficulties and the apprentice’s forthright evidence and recent record for this offence.
The declaration of correct weight of this race was delayed to allow stewards, together with the judge, to view footage of the race over the concluding stages to ascertain the correct finishing order of the placegetters, as there had been a technical difficulty with the photo finish equipment, resulting in only the first two placegetters being recorded.
SANSIRA (App S. Wiseman) was fractious in the barriers and blundered at the start losing ground.
BOOYAH (App B-R. Derbyshire) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the below market expectations performance of WHATAWEAPON, App G. Goold stated that the gelding began fairly, but struggled to maintain its position in the early stages and he was disappointed with the run. He added that he felt WHATAWEAPON would be better suited over races of a distance further than today’s event.
Race 2: Dorothy Pratt M.L.R. Class 2 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Love That Chick 2nd – Calaraben 3rd – He’s No Saint 4th – Boyng
The declaration of correct weight of this race was delayed to allow stewards, together with the judge, to view footage of the race over the concluding stages to ascertain the correct finishing order of the placegetters, as there had been a technical difficulty with the photo finish equipment, resulting in no image of the placegetters being recorded.
HARFORD STREET (App M. O’Brien) was very slow to begin.
CALARABEN (App B-R. Derbyshire) and LIKEABATOUTOFHELL (D. Gill) bumped on a number of occasions shortly after the start.
BASTION POINT (App A. Smith) raced wide throughout.
ZI MUSIC (S. Apthorpe) improved up quickly on to the tiring LIESEL’S CHARM (W. Clasohm) near the 50m and was reluctant to shift out into clear running, and as a result clipped that mare’s heels while being restrained.
When queried regarding the below market expectations performance of LIESEL’S CHARM, rider W. Clasohm stated that the mare jumped fairly, but was pressured when leading and he believes this told on the horses disappointing run to the line.
Jockey M. Gray was afforded the opportunity to explain GOLD LAND’S below market expectations performance, he reported that he was disappointed with the run, the horse travelled well throughout, but in his opinion may not have appreciated the firmness of today’s track condition. A post-race Veterinary examination of GOLD LAND revealed the gelding was lame in the near fore leg. Trainer J. Murdoch was advised that he would be required to produce a Veterinary Certificate of fitness for GOLD LAND prior to its next race start.
Race 3: Glendalough Brangas Stud Mdn Plt – 1200m
1st – Royal Rocket 2nd – Exquisite Diamond 3rd – Avoca Belle 4th – Moon Landing
The connections of BLACK TRESURE (App A. Kitson) advised stewards prior to the race that they would be instructing App. Kitson not to use her whip on the mare in the race, as BLACK TREASURE has shown a tendency to resent its use in the past.
UNANIMOUS DECISION (App G. Goold) was very slow to begin.
SKYSTEP (App A. Smith) jumped out at the start and bumped EXQUISITE DIAMOND (R. Hancock), which began awkwardly.
MOON LANDING (M. Gray) raced wide in the early stages.
AVOCA BELLE (App E. O’Connell) raced wide until assuming the lead at the 600m.
LET’S GET CRACKIN (W. Clasohm) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Huston Nissan Class B H’cap – 1200m
1st – Sars Mario 2nd – El Retazo 3rd – Gold Record 4th – Victory Shield
The declaration of correct weight of this race was delayed to allow connections of SKYIELD, which had crossed the line in 5th position, the opportunity to view footage of the start to ascertain whether they had been afforded a fair start, as the rider of the gelding, App A. Smith, believed her gate did not open at the same time as the rest of the field. Stewards declared SKYIELD a non-runner acting under rule of racing AR134A as they agreed that it had been denied a fair start as its barrier gate had not opened with the rest of the field’s. Horse number 16 – CHADWICK was declared the official 5th placegetter of the race. All monies invested on SKYIELD were ordered to be refunded. Deductions were to apply to bets placed on the winner and 2nd and 3rd placegetters of the race:
O cents in the dollar for the win – SARS MARIO
5 cents in the dollar for the place – SARS MARIO
3 cents in the dollar for the place – EL RETAZO
4 cents in the dollar for the place – GOLD RECORD
VICTORY SHIELD (W. Abbey) jumped out at the start and bumped SARS MARIO (S. Bayliss).
OUR PAPALE (App E. O’Connell) began awkwardly.
GOLD RECORD (J. Hoopert) blundered at the start.
HEY FRISCO (S. Apthorpe) and GOD SHE’S RAUNCHY (D. Gill) raced wide in the early stages of the event.
EL RETAZO (App A. Kitson) raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
SKYIELD had to be steadied when tightened for room momentarily on the rail to the inside of GOLD RECORD near the 1000m.
WIDE BAY (I. Coombes) raced wide throughout.
At the 400m HEY FRISCO raced up on to the heels of GOD SHE’S RAUNCHY and had to be steadied.
VICTORY SHIELD had to be restrained from the heels of EL RETAZO on the line when unable to obtain clear running.
When queried regarding the below market expectations performance of EASE ON BY, rider W. Clasohm stated that the mare travelled well on the speed in the early stages and up to a point approaching the home turn, but had had enough on straightening and tired over the concluding stages. He added that in his opinion she was better suited in races run over a distance of 1000m.
S. Bayliss the rider of the winner SARS MARIO was afforded the opportunity to explain the horse’s seemingly improved performance in today’s race. Jockey Bayliss stated that he and the trainer, Mr C. Lindsay, were confident of their chances, as the gelding was first up after a spell, and had shown a liking for this track in the past, winning here first up over 1200m at its most recent preparation.
