STEWARDS REPORT

NANANGO RACE CLUB
SATURDAY 12th FEBRUARY 2022

WEATHER – Fine   TRACK RATING – Good 3     RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Stewards: K Daly (Chairman), C Fedrick
Clerk of Scales – B Webb
Judge – P Chilton
Veterinarian – Dr L Schiemer
Starter – K Dennien

General
Due to current Covid restrictions Stewards permitted the following weight variations:

Race 1: C Meehan – WHITSUNDAY STAR – 55.5kgs (+0.5kg)
Race 2: C Meehan – LIVELY LASS – 55.5kgs (+0.5kg)

Race 1 – Class B Hdcp 800 METRES

THE WAITING MAN – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. Laid in near the 500m and bumped LOVE CLASS on several occasions. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

GLAM ROCK – Jumped out at the start.

LOVE CLASS – Bumped on several occasions near the 500m. Laid out rounding the home turn taking KING KAI wider on the track. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.

BARLEY HUNTER – Severely checked at the start when tightened between runners. Consequently, rider M Butler became very awkward and unbalanced after the saddle on the horse shifted to the nearside resulting in BARLEY HUNTER putting in a number of awkward strides and losing ground.

TIMELY REWARD – Proved difficult to load. Trainer A Briskey was advised a warning would be placed on the horses’ barrier manners.

WHITSUNDAY STAR – Began awkwardly.

MISS CRUISEY – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away.

KING TAI – Crowded between runners on jumping and lost ground. Taken wider rounding the home turn.

BILLIRUBIN – Tightened on jumping and lost ground.

Race 2 – Class 2 Hdcp 1000 METRES

Correct weight was delayed allowing C Meehan, rider of LIVELY LASS, to view the patrol footage of the start. After doing so it was established that although the barrier of LIVELY LASS was marginally slow to open, Stewards deemed this had no material effect on the finishing place of the horse and correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings. The barriers were subsequently tested prior to the running of Race 3 and found to be in satisfactory working condition.

POTENT VIEW – When asked to comment on the performance rider A Donald stated the horse was second up today from a spell and in her opinion would derive significant benefit from the run.

MAHA MUSTANG – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MR NODDY – On pulling up rider H Richardson was dislodged after MR NODDY bumped with the Clerk of the Course pony. H Richardson was attended to by QAS staff and cleared to fulfill her remaining engagements.

LIVELY LASS – After being loaded into the barriers broke through and galloped a short distance before being quickly restrained, underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start.  Slow to begin.

BOBBYBOUCHE – Kicked out behind as the start was effected and lost ground. Slow to muster speed in the early stages.

Following this event trainer P Sexton was attended to by QAS staff after being kicked in the tie up stalls.

Race 3 – Open Hdcp 1000 METRES

WALSHIE – After becoming fractious and sustaining a minor abrasion to its head when being transported to the track, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after blood was present in the offside nostril and was cleared to start. WALSHIE was re-examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers following its preliminary and cleared to start.

KELLERS SHELTER – Bumped its offside hip leaving the enclosure gate moving onto the track. Underwent a veterinary examination prior to be loading into the barriers and was cleared to start.

ASK AUDREY – Lost near fore plate in running.

Race 4 – Maiden Plate 1200 METRES

HEDWICK – Jumped out at the start and bumped ALITA. Inconvenienced when crowded for room near the 400m.

OUTASTEP – Inconvenienced when crowded for room near the 400m.

SHE DRIVES ME WILD – As had not started in an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Passing the 500m when weakening, commenced to lay in despite the efforts of its rider, and near the 400m shifted in resulting in both OUTASTEP and HEDWICK being inconvenienced when crowded for room. A post-race veterinary examination no significant abnormalities other than a slow post-race recovery rate.

ALITA – Bumped on jumping.

Race 5 – Benchmark 50 Hdcp 1200 METRES

ALL JEED UP – Raced wide for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, rider M Philpott reported despite the horse racing wide in the early and middle stages of the event, when placed under pressure from the 500m ALL JEED UP failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing, adding that she was of the opinion that the horse was not suited by today’s firm track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BACIO VINCENTE – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.

JAYBE HERSCHELLE – Began awkwardly and ground.

EURO ROCKSTAR – Declared a late scratching at 1:00pm after sustaining abrasions to the offside hip and offside heel when being transported to the track. Trainer G Arnold advised Stewards it was now his intention to spell EURO ROCKSTAR.

RAKU’S SECRET – As had not started in an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Commenced to hang out from the 400m and in the home straight hung out severely despite the efforts of its rider resulting in rider G Steele being dislodged passing the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor abrasion to the inside of the offside cheek. Trainer P Sexton was advised RAKU’S SECRET must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. G Steele was examined by QAS staff and cleared of any injury.

TAHLAYLA – As J Molloy was to be overweight, Stewards permitted Z Sprie to ride the mare. J Molloy was fined $200 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Raced four wide for the majority of the event.

MERGE – After being slow to begin was then slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event.
