The start of Race 1 was delayed approximately 10 minutes after a tyre on the barrier stalls required replacing.
 
Race 1 – Maiden Plate 800 METRES
 
BELPHEGOR – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout and then commenced to hang out from the 400m resulting in the horse being unable to be fully tested by its rider in the run to the finish. Shifted out abruptly near the 200m and bumped heavily with DRUMS ON FIRE. Trainer B Ahrens was advised BELPHEGOR must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
BONA DEA – Jumped out at the start and bumped SPILT BEANS. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
DRUMS ON FIRE – Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 200m.
 
SPILT BEANS – Slow to begin. Bumped by BONA DEA at the start.
 
RED GADGET – Taken wider on the home turn when BONA DEA laid out.
 
 
Race 2 – Benchmark 45 Hdcp 1000 METRES
 
The start of this event was delayed 5 minutes to allow QAS staff to attend to an on-course patron who required medical attention.
ZENIA – Slow to begin. M Cox, rider of ZENIA, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for consecutive strikes of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
RUN THE CUTTER – Raced wide throughout.
 
TRUE TALLY – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 3 – Maiden Plate 1200 METRES
 
CATCHESWINMATCHES – As had not started for an extended period underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Bumped approaching the 100m when QWICK shifted in under pressure.
 
QWICK – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100m and bumped CATCHESWINMATCHES.  
 
GAME NAME – Slow to begin then unable to muster speed in the early stages. Trainer B Ahrens indicated the horse would be better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.
 
CALATHIEL – Slow to begin.
 
FLAMING VICTORY – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2pm after becoming fractious in the tie-up stalls  and  found to be lame in the off-hind leg. As betting had not commenced on the race no deductions were applicable. Trainer A Park was advised FLAMING VICTORY would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
CHAMPION BALLERINA - Raced three wide in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 4 – Benchmark 60 Hdcp 1200 METRES
 
BUZZER BEATER – Slow to begin.
 
COMMANDING WITNESS – Crowded for room and had to be steadied passing the 500m when racing tightly to the inside of SPIRITOMO. Hampered for a short distance approaching the 200m when SPIRITOMO laid in when weakening. B Moffatt, rider of COMMANDING WITNESS, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
SPIRITOMO – Laid in when weakening approaching the 200m resulting COMMANDING WITNESS being hampered for short distance.
 
STRYKING PRINCESS – Brushed with RAKU’S SECRET near the 1000m.
 
NINE CIGARS – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
RAKU’S SECRET – Brushed with STRYKING PRINCESS near the 1000m
 
PARLOUR –  Began awkwardly and lost ground. 
 
 
Race 5 - Benchmark 55 Hdcp 1600 METRES
 
BILLIRUBIN – After arriving behind the barriers reared, dislodging rider S Stephan. The horse then took fright and jumped the fence at the back of the 1600m chute and galloped some distance before being restrained in the tie-up stalls. BILLIRUBIN was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 4:05pm after sustaining lacerations to the near hind leg. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on BILLIRUBIN refunded in full and deductions of 8c win and 9c place to apply on all winning bets made prior to 4:05pm. Trainer S Pedron was advised the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
At a subsequent inquiry apprentice S Stephan pleaded guilty to a charge under 228(a) in that after being dislodged from BILLIRUBIN behind the barriers she threw her whip towards the hind legs of BILLIRUBIN which resulted in the horse taking fright, jumping a fence, and sustaining lacerations to the near hind leg and being declared a late scratching from the event on veterinary advice. Stewards were of the opinion the actions of S Stephan were prejudicial to both the image and welfare of racing and she was fined $1000 with $500 fully suspended for a period of 12 months.
 
TAKE THE LEAD – S Apthorpe, rider of TAKE THE LEAD, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
CONSULAR – B Moffatt, rider of CONSULAR, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
CRAIGLEA BANDIT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
LONDON FAME – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
HOLD ALL TICKETS – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
LUNAR LUSTRE – Slow to begin.
 
RED VEGAS – Slow to begin. Rider reported the horse did not appreciate today’s firm track conditions.
